It really is sad, what Hana was lacking was the same thing he's been truly longing for. It's love/companionship, he needs people he can be with and people who want to stand alongside him.

This might the last episode of Flowers arc. Fun Fact : Congratulations to Shinji Ikari at the end of scene. It really was emotional that Hana Asakura is the same as Shinji Ikari serious character. What has missing is truly was "It's Love" and it appeared in the end scene.
Yoh let himself die due to his pacifism and forbad Anna from harming them either. Yoh's pacifism has always been his worst enemy. Remember what Hao said to him after Yoh apologized for getting himself and the others killed, "see Yoh. Your peacemaking mission was futile".
Basically Hana is full of hatred for the world, for his parents, for himself, for the time. He's great at fighting, but he's missing love in his life, love is after all, a source of greatness. Love does not have to be directed at people, but at the things we do, love for what you do is important, love for people that surround you too. Those things will make you a better, more fulfilled person and eventually better at the things you do. Hao was over powered, his heart burning with hatred, that's why in the GS, he couldn't stop people from entering his domain, power of spirit is important.
Haha Shaman King can be corny, just like with original manga ending with Hao, but it's still raising a valid point. I really like that love is what Hana's been missing, and by love, i mean love for life, love for the things he does and people around him, not just friendship
