Very useful info indeed. To be more fair comparison would be between Hana SL and Rega Ania. Both are low voltage output. The difference between the SH and Ania that you reviewed should came from the fact that you compared high output with low output ones.
Agree. I only had access to the SH and thought it would a worthwhile review given that both versions cost the same and the SH would work for ppl that don’t to spend on an MC phono stage.
Thank you for posting and as usual, always a pleasure hearing your reviews. I have since purchased the Ania Pro for my P6 that will be replacing my Ania. I`ve also purchased a Rega IOS high end MC phono amp and look forward to hearing how the Ania Pro will sound.
As always really enjoyed your latest Video especially as I have a Hana Ml arriving in the next couple of weeks time. Reading reviews of the Ml on the net they all say the midrange with Hana just disappears . Interesting your comments about run in time to I will bare that in mind when I get it. I always like when you get your favourite albums which you used with the review and talk about a track. And thats what its about about our hobby - Getting closer to the music and getting touched by it. Cheers Ian
Ian, very glad to hear that you are enjoying the content. And yes, the sharing my thoughts with my fav albums is the part I enjoy the most! The Hana ML gets rave reviews and I bet you will love it. I would definitely like to hear about break in period on the ML and if it anything like the SH break in time.
@@analogholic_reviews Will get back to you with the ML in a month or so when it is installed and broken in more. I loved the reviews I read about it and one said this is basically a £1000 cartridge but it sounds like a £3 -4000 cart. Wishing you more blissful Hana listening :) Cheers Ian
Hi Rohit another sellar review by your good self. Your conclusion about the two cartridges are interesting as when I had the Ania & the Hana SL at the same time, the "SL" walked all over the Ania. Now I only use a 2017 P3 but there was a clear winner in the "SL". I tried EVERYTHING to get the Ania close to the "SL"'s performance but to no avail. You haven't stated what phono stage you used Rohit maybe this is the reason for your conclusions,I use a Rega Aria which has a REALLY GREAT MC section so things were equal, as the "SL" is of course a moving coil cartridge. I would love to hear a Hana "SH " & a "SL" via the same phono stage - anyway I'll await your next video with great anticipation - keep up the great work.
Hey thanks again! I personally do like the SH over the Ania. But I can see people preferring the leaner presentation of an Ania via a revealing table like a P10. I used my Musical Fidelity MXVYNL phono stage.
@@analogholic_reviews MXVYNL - oh yes I know it fairly well my friend uses it on his P6 - "with one of his" Hana SL's. It's a great combination digging our great detail with thunderous bass(!) The cartridge was fitted & aligned by me & he has a 2mm full metal shim fitted too, it's a fine set-up indeed.
I use a Aria too. It's brilliant isn't it just so smooth and musical. It's detailed but just sounds musical Had a Fono (MM) before and the Aria left it for dead even from cold. Keep my Aria always powered up. Have a Hana ML arriving soon but my dealer knows the best loading etc with the ML.
@@nap42110 - Hi Ian,yes the Hana "ML" is definitely a top draw in it`s price bracket! As for loading via a Rega Aria it would be "100 ohms" & gain depending on your amplification`s gain,as I`ve found that even on most LOMC`s that the lowest setting on the Aria(63.5db) is more than enough, you`d have to be using a pretty low output cartridge(below .3mv)to use the 69.3db setting to good effect on the Aria - but of course as ALWAYS try different options with your phono stage(using a higher ohm setting can give the music a bit more "air" about it). I used to have the Rega Fono MC mk3(which wipe the floor with all my previous under £300 phono stages)before & found a huge difference with the Aria(mk1) too,my friend who has two Rega`s in two different set-ups tried my Aria once against his "Cyrus Signature Phono Stage" & stated that the (£1500) Cyrus only "just" bettered my Aria with the added Cyrus psu(£300+),the Aria was better than the stand alone Cyrus signature side by side & he used balanced connections on the Cyrus(daaaamn). What turntable are you currently using Ian,I use & STILL love a(upgraded)2017 P3?
Another great video! Having just upgraded my phono stage, I am now looking at upgrading the Goldring E3 to an MC cart in or around the CAD$1000 price range. As usual your reviews are excellent, however I don't think I'm any closer to a decision. I'm running a slightly upgraded Rega P2 through a Dynavector P75 Mk4 phono stage into an AXA35 and out through Dali Oberon 1s (soon to be upgraded to 5s or Q concept 40s). I was wondering if you had any insight into which cart might play better with an already rather lively set-up?
@@analogholic_reviews managed to get a demo (albeit on an RP6 which I now may need to upgrade to) of the Hana SH and Dynavector 20x2 L and H (they didn't have a 15) whilst keeping the rest of my equipment about the same at my local store. Great call on the Hana! Now I think I'm going to have to upgrade my amp and speakers though.
I’d recommend one step at a time for you to fully appreciate the contribution of every component as we spend our hard earned money. Starting with speakers, I’d recommend speakers that are a combination of easy to drive and nominal to 6 or even 4 ohms for dynamics. This does mean you need an amp that is stable to 4 ohm loads but doesn’t need tons of power. I hope that makes sense, my friend.
@@analogholic_reviews Makes perfect sense. As a misguided youth many years ago I used to do Audio Tech work. I do have a pretty hard limit on price vs diminishing returns, if not outright price though (loud concerts, mixing live music for a few years, and a couple of decades in the army take a toll on what one can hear at any rate). I'm fortunate enough to have a great hi-fi store locally so I'll be doing my best to demo and perhaps change one thing at a time until I fall on the wrong side of the aforementioned diminishing returns.
Great video as allways, i have the rp1 do you think i should look at hana sh or sl turn table is project x1 cartridge confuse me not sure what cart i cannot put on x1
Thank you for the review, I am curious about Hana since it has low output version as well (SL) If I have phono preamp that can play both MM and MC ( I have Rega Aria), which version should I get? SL or SH?
I'm guessing either H or the L version would be equally good as they are offered at the same price. But I'd be partial to the L especially if I had the Aria.
I recently purchased a pre-owned Rega RP6 that came with an Ortofon 2M black. I may be able to get a like new Ania for about half the price of new. Curious if any of you have heard both and could tell me if it would be worth the upgrade. I do have a different table I could use the 2M Black on or I could sell it and roughly break even I think. I do realize I would need a different phono preamp but I was probably going to get a better one anyway. Thanks
Great questions! The 2M is a superb MM cart (review coming soon). The thing with the 2M black is that you’d have to dial the stylus alignment just right, including VTA. So if you have a good protractor and VTA shims for the Rega tonearm, go for it! The Ania on the other hand, doesn’t need fiddling of you mount it using the screws and sounds just as dynamic as the 2M with better high frequency response IMHO. Yes, you’d a decent MC phono fo’ shizzle 😝
For about $1k we do have some choices from likes of Mofi, Project (EAT) and even Technics 1500c for about $1200. Very different approach from P3 being heavier mass, direct drive etc. Good lineage and design principles as well so I’m really curious.
What phono leads did you use between the two cartridges, and what was the length of the leads? I'm assuming you use the same phone leads for both cartridges.
