I worked at that PX 25 years ago. Wow. Thanks for the memories relived. There's nothing like going down memory lane to brighten your day a little, but I do have to admit that it saddens me a little that being a military brat many of my childhood memories are just that, memories. Many of the bases my father was stationed at are closed, so I do not have "a place" to visit, or stroll into an old shop and talk about the good ol' days here or there.
Still hurts me to see so many bases closed since the 90's. I was part of the first draw down waves to be affected by this back then as an army brat. I still live in Germany.
Time flies! I grew up with the US soldiers in Hanau and when they left it felt like a part of Hanau died... And I really miss Popeye's :) Thank you for all your videos.
I spent a total of eight years in Hanau, Germany on this military base. We went overseas two tours to Hanau. I had so much fun as a child growing up on this American army base. Making lots of friends and getting to travel to different countries around Germany. Got to see John and Jackie Kennedy at Hanau and was there when the Berlin wall went up .... Cheryl Little🙂
Otis, thanks for bringing back great memories of my time n the 814Th Combat Engineer in Pioneer Kaserne in beautiful Hanau. I was stationed there from the fall of 1977 till February of 1979. I hit the KFC at least once a week and spent a lot of time at a restaurant/bar called Tony's on the other side of the bridge and street from Pioneer Kaserne which may be the same one you referred to as Tony's Pizza. I could just go on and on.
I still have my stereo system and leather jacket I bought from here between 1988 and 1990 :) I used to walk to here from Underwood Kaserne all the time.
I worked at that commissary and px on wolfgang in 86 87, after it moved from pioneer where i also worked. great memories. they were working on the bowling alley when i left in 87. i got to visit again with my pop and mom and son who turned 6 while on that trip back in 2003, i took a lot of pics and some video, tried to video the high school and got harassed by the mp's immediately and told to not record anymore or they would take my camera and charge me with espionage yikes. thanks for this video, so cool. my pop was the deputy community commander at pioneer. want to return again indeed kirk wilson, c/o '89 hanau high
Otis, thanks! Brings back lots of great memories. I was assigned to the 130th both back in the early 80's (worked at V Corps HQ though) and in the late 90's out at Grossauheim. Keep the videos coming!
I was stationed in Hanau from 1995 to 2002. man what a great experience. had a baby girl born in the Hanau hospital, watched great things being build. the popeyes / Taco bell was build at the end of 2000 and man was it great. most of us couldn't wait to have taco bell. I lived in New Argonner Kaserne and Pioneer Kaserne. Had to move to Pioneer Kaserne after my upstairs neighbor fell asleep one night and burned up his apartment. we had water, smoke and electrical damage from that. he caused about 120000 dollars worth of damage and then ran. the MPs finally caught him about a month later. lol. god I miss that place. I miss the good times and the people I worked with at my unit. I would say that the film brought back nice memories. thank you for posting them.
I was stationed on Wolfgang Kaserne from 1/68 to 8/69 in the 275 Chemical Detachment, prior to the conversion of the Kaserne to the service format. We came and went thru the small gate where the MP staion still stands. Sad to see it all abandoned.
I worked there in 79 before it was a shopping area.. I pulled gaurd duty in the small building that still stands. Sure would have liked to see a close up of the buildings to the far south. The old buildings were class II & IV ,class VII, class III and the motor pool.
i served in the us army at fliegerhorst kaserne in1953 and 1954. we were attached to the signal corp, i think it was the 7797. it's been a long time so to remember exactly what outfit it's hard to recall. there were 4 outposts that we were responsible for security. our company deactivated in the summer of 1954 and i spent the rest of my tour in france. our favorite oasis in hanau at that time was the white feather.
I was there when it went from a depot to a PX/Rec kaserne. I was on Fliegerhorst from 84 until 89. When the Mark rate tanked in the late 80's we spent a lot of time at the bowling alley. Thankfully they were computerized scoring because at the end of the night no could have added correctly. used to go get my 5 Lbs of free beef a month there.
I was stationed in Hanau, Germany from 1989 to 1994, so I am very familiar with that part of the world. I shopped in the PX and commissary at least once a week for some 5 years. There was also a great Bowling Alley. My goodiness, it was all new when I got there in 1989. It must have costed millions of dollars for the new construction that was there and to just fold up and leave it it just sad to me. Who knows, if the Russians really get stupid, maybe we'll be right back in the Hanau area.
We very much miss you guys..I lived in altensthalt military/civilian housing from 97 to 2000 and spent many days a week at this kaserne bowling...I'm american and was a army brat but have distant german immigrant roots...I miss my childhood home
@@wades_world_lederman_style No it was inside the PX building. But you didn't need an ID Card to get there. So even as a german citizen you were able to buy it.
Well it's been a long time, me and my ex-husband used to take a train from Gelnhausen to. Hanau just to get Pizza Hut which was along the way from the train station to Hanau and then go to the PX. Somewhere down that road lies my wedding ring hahaha.
I was there Dec 1981 -May 1983. 127 MP Co. PATROLLED HANAU AREA. ALSO PATROLED IN Gelnhousen. Hung out at orangeree Restaurant Philipsrue palace. Hello Michael Korph and Kersten Weber . And BetinaShenlea
Oh, I forgot I worked at Andrews Federal Credit Union, and I also work at the commissary at the same time. I stocked Groceries at the commissary at night worked at the credit union in the Day. 😀…Betty Lemons (Oct. 1996 - Oct. 1999)
I just happen to run across this video. I don’t know if you will ever see this message from me, but you can’t even imagine how much I appreciate this video. This was my home for three years and it brought so much excitement to my heart when I saw this and heard you speak of the streets and showing everything that I was so accustomed to. Thank you so very much. Betty Lemons ❤
I believe this PX & Commissary had just opened before we moved back to the states in 1979. I think we’d only gone there a few times before we moved. We spent most of the time on post in Hanau at that Commissary and PX. Wow.
Thanks for the video! I first went to Wolfgang Kaserne back in the Summer of 1991, as a soldier when I was stationed in Ashaffenburg Fiori Kaserne. I continued to go to Wolfgang throughout the 90's and until 2002, on my civilian trips to The Hanau area (Alzenau).
Dwayne Michael Washington who used to walk all around the area by myself to get to the PX where my mom anniestager russell kitchen worked from 2214 platen housing area frankfurt germany

Dwayne Michael Washington in Frankfurt Germany in the military housing area do you know where you passed the little recreational center where the youngsters used to hang out where we played foosball was if you keep straight down that street you'll run into where we go to get the candies which that truck used to drive around and bring the kinder Totten eggs
before you get there it's a restaurant right there and they served all type of burgers fries where we would get fries with ketchup but across the street from that is a crosswalk that leads to that Candy store where the guy used to drive in that white and red van and Dwyane Michael Washington was hit in the crosswalk at that exit from that exit they took me from that exit to 97 general hospital where my mom also was an employee named anniestager russell kitchen
wanted to say thank you. man I miss that place. I was there from 95 to 02. was a great time. could you look at Fliegerhorst Kaserne? would love to know what happened to that place. thanks again.
across the street from the interest to the shopping center or commissary is some like little apartments but they used to have a tire swing we used to swing on it
+mark sanders Hutier next door looks the same. Hessen Homburg was leveled even before Hanau closed completely and redeveloped by the Rads. Guess the 3AD Combat Engineers had trashed the place. I used to cross over the narrow catwalk from Hutier to Hessen Homburg and go to the library. Artillerymen like me could read. Guess Engineers could not.
