Hance Rapid is a class 8. The biggest we’d seen yet on the expedition. To avoid flipping or falling out of the boat at the pour-overs at the entry to the rapid, the proper move is to downstream ferry from river right to river left between two pour-overs, then putting the stern of the boat into the eddy waters of the “Duck Pond” and spinning 180 degrees to push forward and river left to avoid the “Land of the Giants”. Well, I didn’t do that properly. This video shows Sherwood "Woody" pointing at the pour-over moments before I ejected myself into the waters, and it shows Maria in the background running the rapid properly while coaching Woody what to do in the absence of his pilot.
