How to hand feed a baby cockatiel that doesn't want to eat. This 5 week old baby cockatiel could be a challenge, and could lose weight if not look after in the correct way. Lets take on the challenge and let me show you what I do!
THANK YOU for this video! I have THREE of these non-eaters right now! A 21-day-old, 20-day-old and a 15-day old. All will fight me endlessly every time I try to feed them. I kept Googling the hell out of it to see what I was doing wrong, your video helped SO MUCH! Subscribed and will be learning lots more from your videos! :)
I just subscribed. Really enjoy your videos. I have a male cockatiel that I've had since he was a baby. He will be 28 years old this year. We had a female as well, but she passed about 4 years ago. She was 24. They are rotten and very loving little creatures. 🙂
I have a cockatiel almost 4 weeks that is just like this stubborn one. Thank you this was so helpful. Glad to know this can happen & not something wrong with the bird. Love all your videos they are so helpful.
Recently discovered your channel through the air in crop video. I love how calm and simple you explain things! And you've helped save our new little baby bird. Happy for your channel's success and your healthy birds!
I'm very shocked at how many subs you have. You should at the very least have 500k subs! Such an amazing, caring and informative channel! Keep up the good work my man👍🏽
Wow, I like the way you think! lol. share our videos... the channel is growing. however, we never really set out to be RU-vidrs.... It's just kind of happening. Thanks for watching and welcome to the channel. Kevin
OMG I have 2 just like this stubborn bird and it's been so exhausting!! I have felt so horrible that My Husband and I have had to force the food in them.... it has just felt so wrong and I was so worried we would accidentally aspirate them. One of them has been so much worse than the other and nearly impossible to feed. we've had to hand feed both of them since the younger baby was 2 days old because Mom and Dad weren't taking proper care of them. I've been so fearful that they would never eat on their own and I just didn't want to think about the worst situation; and 2 days ago.... they started eating some peas and carrots I've been giving them. I literally cried. This video makes me feel so much better. As usual, thank you Kevin!
nice video, I have same thing with 2 of my 5-6 weeks old babies, I wish I could have a chat with you :) your videos are great source of information, good job!
Thank you for watching. Things are growing so fast...lol. but we love it. we are working on a website. In the mean time we have a facebook page that people are contacting me on. Its called Bird Squawk. send me a message
Im so glad you made a video about this. My tiels are coming onto 5 weeks old. Last 3 feeds they havent really been interested. Id be lucky to get 5ml down them.. so yesterday i started feeding them every 3hrs.. so smaller quantity more frequently.. seems to be working.
Thank you for sharing this! When I first tried feeding my baby birdy, he completely refused. I was worried that he was sick or something was wrong, but he honestly seemed completely healthy and his poops are fine. Haha, same thing with my birdy. He is sooo stubborn, its frustrating, (he doesn't even want to open its beak!) but a complete sweetheart. My goodness, I have been so worried, I usually have to end up force feeding him, and after a bit he usually opens up a tad. Hate force feeding him, especially with the fear of accidently aspirating him. He honestly reminds me of a fussy toddler that refuses to eat. Glad to know that this is somewhat normal amongst some baby cockatiels! Update: Hey! So its been 2 weeks, and now my baby tiel grew in his feathers and is adorable (He's around 5-6 weeks old now) . He finally warmed up to me, now he isn't stubborn at all. He loves his formula, and eats it. (yay!) and best part over all, never worry about overfeeding him, since he seems aware of how much he can take until he's full (don't worry, i always check his crop just to make sure) and he's a complete sweetheart. he has started flying and is soo cute. Loves sitting on my hand, (even though i need to get his nails clipped a bit, since if he climbs up my arm, i end up getting alot of scratches.) he loves napping, loves my colorful markers, he can still be alot at times, like when I try and put him in his cage at night for bedtime, He HATES his cage, he chills in there sometimes but hates when I close the door, any tips to get him used to his cage? Anyways he's been an absolute angel, and internally grateful for this video that kept me from panicking too hard. Can't wait until he grows up more and can start flying more properly!
They're so silly when their crest feathers are just growing in, one of my favorite things about baby tiels. Learning a lot from your videos! Your stubborn baby will be a good companion for someone with that personality.
@@Bird.Squawk There is always very high demand for tame cockatiels at our bird shop, you usually have to be on a waitlist. Glad to hear he got a home fast! ❤
@@fauxpromises I hear the same thing at our local bird store. It's crazy but I love it. The best thing about our local bird store is they're very picky about who gets them.
Hi, do you have any advice, my cockatiel is around 4 weeks old I've been trying to feed him but I have to open his mouth manually and he only gets around 2ml of formula in 4 to 3 times a day and he mostly just sits in his box, he doesn't walk around his box or anything. Any advice would be greatly appreciated
First, i'm sorry for the late reply. Hes at the weening stage. their crops are shrinking. its a tuff stage for hand feeding. at this point you want to make sure you are offering him lots of other seeds and pellets during the day. He needs to go a little hungry... during the day. Then I give them a good feeding to hold the through the night. Let me know hows he doing now. Kevin
Hello.. long time no hear.. 😁 well I have had several babies that have not made it.. there is a problem I don't understand nor know why.. the babies start getting large air sacs in the crop area.. why ?? 😔😔 Please need help and explanation.. will be waiting.. God bless and be safe.. love what you do..
I have a baby cockatiel that’s three weeks old but he doesn’t even have his pin feathers. His brother is always begging for food so he gets a lot of food but he barely does and so he doesn’t eat as well. The mom and dad haven’t warmed him since he was like 5 days old either. I’m not sure what to do
This is a great idea for a video. I'm putting it on my list for a new video. Best advice I can give is handle them. only give them treat when they're out of the cage. no treats in the cage... they get treats when they are with you.
I also have same as this stubborn one cocktail baby, i have him since I think he is 3 weeks old and is full of pin feathers, after I take him home, i fed him daily i tried to feed him directly through syringe but he is not at all cooperating, so now I'm giving him crop feeding, and he is now I think 4 weeks old, and full of feathers, he never opens his mouth for food or never nobed his head, he is not even making noise as much, i always have to force feed him, i don't know why is he behaving like this, I'm giving him as time as possible and i want to treat him, but he never ask for food, and he is not at all a food driven bird, am i making any mistake in feeding him? Or is it because of crop feeding!? Idk, please ans, I'm even not sure now that he will become even a handtame bird! I feel like he will be a sami handtame bird, please reply is possible! And big thanks to your videos, it really helps me a lot
Some are just very stubborn. keep making sure he as food in him. also offer him lots of things to try in his cage. watch for him to start eating the cage food.
I really need your help right now, I’m literally confused my baby cocktail was taking the hand feed formula really really well ,but today when I gave him the formula he’s not taking it I’m afraid if he have any sort of digestion problem or does he need to be fed in the way you showed us in the video.
Hi I’m new to your channel and I would like some advice on feeding 27 day old cockatiels I’ve had to rescue three and they don’t appreciate me trying to feed them at all any advice would be great😊😊
Welcome to the channel. has the video says you just have to keep working with them. some are harder. and getting at that age will be tougher... hang in there it will be worth it! Keep me posted.... Kevin
Hey...my cockatiel chick is also like this...he/she 's age is now 45 days...and started to crack millets...but still avoids hand feed...how do i identify that when to stop hand feeding
I have 2 handfed cockatiels. I ran out of their first handfeed formula and bought a different brand . they refuse to eat it . what can I do for them to eat it?
Love your videos.💖.. I have a huge problem.. My baby has had splayed leg since out of egg.. I have put the fuzzy thing to see what would happen.. I left it on for a long while.. But it didn't work.. Its leg sticks out , poor thing can't walk only limps nd its top beak goes in just a little it's bottom beak..seeds just fall out.. Please help....😞😞. What can I do for both these problems...
Good morning I just got a cockatiel yesterday and he doesn't want to eat his food.. I don't know if I'm feeding him wrong or what... I know he's food isn't cold, please if you have any advice I would be so happy for it . I'm just scared he will be starving 😭
Hello again.. Much blessings to you and family.. I wanted to know if its ok to put bene-bac plus in the formula ?? The directions say add after cooling down to 100 degrees Fahrenheit... But the formula has to be at 105... What do you think I should do ?? Thanks
it went wrong when i tried to crop feeding my 5 weeks old pied cockatiel and he's choking, can't breathe for few seconds, his body trancing. I massage his breast part slowly and he's coming back breathing i'am scared to death for crop feeding him again, is there any tips should i do ? he doesn't want to eat
Hello, I have a cockatiel whose age I don't know and the guy I bought it from doesn't know either since he wasn't the person who took care of it. I'm guessing he's 4 weeks old, his weight is 71g before eating and I feed him 7ml 4 times a day and after every 6-7 hours his crop becomes almost empty, am I feeding him too much or too little? I'm really worried and I can't really trust the vets in my area due to several reasons.
Let me try to answer most of your questions. First let me start by saying I have a few videos that cover this exact topic if you want to look at those. I think you'll get more detail out of those videos. I think ones called how much to feed baby cockatiels. So let me give you an example of what your goal is. Your goal is to keep food in that baby's crop all day except once a day. Once a day you want that baby's crop to go completely empty. But only once a day. This ensures that the last 24 hours worth of formula is passed through the crop and is passing through the baby. If formula is allowed to stay in the crop it will sour. This can lead to a problem called slow crop. Slow crop is when the chick has developed a yeast infection inside of its crop because of sour food. It's been my experience the only way to correct that is with around of antibiotics. So to answer your question are you feeding too much. I don't think that you're feeding too much as long as you're not over feeding it at the time it's being fed. Every bird's going to be a little different. You need to feel your birds crop but not overfill it. then you need to wait and see how long it takes for that to get almost empty. That may be 2 hours that may be 3 hours It may be an hour. All birds are different. At that point you need to refeed the baby. And then as stated above 1 time a day you will let that crop go completely empty. I hope this helps. Again I will say I have a couple of videos that go way in more detail about this and feel free to watch those if you have more questions let me know. Kevin
Hi. Is it ok to crop/tube feed a stubborn cockatiel (21 days old) like the slow feeder in your video? I have raised 3 cockatiels from 2 weeks to 5 weeks old with crop/tube feeding and have become adept with it, but the newest baby in my care came out of the box late at 19 days old. Im having a hard time hand-feeding the baby without a tube. Thanks.
How do I wean a baby cockatiel who doesn't want to eat? I'm feeding one right now and it is 35 days old... I'm feeding him with and extended tube coz he doesn't want to eat🙁
Hey there.I have a 3 week and 4 week old cockatiel.Unfortuntely bits of formula dried up on certain parts of their body because I forgot to wipe it out. Will their feathers still grow properly or is there a safe way to take it out for them?
Thank you for watching our videos. Unfortunately we do not sell our birds to the public. We have a very special bird store that we have picked out and sell the babies to them once they are weaned. That store is very particular on who they sell to. One of the reasons we allow a store to sell our birds.
Each bird will be different. here's your goal. Only let them go completely once a day. If you let them go empty more than once a day, they are not getting enough food and water. dehydration can set in easily. some will go 2 hours some will go 3..... you have to find that out. great question.... keep me posted and welcome to the channel. Kevin
Love these videos they are awesome. Can't get enough.. I have 3 beautiful babies. Hatched on 1/25 , 26 , and 28.. They have been in incubator.. But now they are getting big and start latching on the top cover.. They have pin feathers on wings , tail and somewhat on the head.. Can I put these babies in the brooder ?? Thank you. Keep educating us.. I love this.
