Hand Forged Banjo Hardware - Circa 1870! 

The neck can be refurbed better.....it has beautiful flame to the maple. If it were one of mine, the neck IS olde but the style could go back far enough to be period. I would keep the neck, pull the rosewood finger board, and put a flame maple finger board on it with no frets. I would plug the peg holes and ream them correctly for violin style pegs. The pegs will not slip IF you take some high quality violin rosin, NOT peg dope. Scrape the rosin to scuff it up and get some powdery rosin, rub the pegs and they will not slip. A handmade ebony tailpiece would look good on this pot. Love your channel. Oh, I'm looking for ONE brass eage shoe, tip to tip between the wings is 1 5/8", stud and nut version. I can use the screw version if I have to... I can also cast my own but it would be costly. Do you know anyone who may have one...? Smakula does not, I've already checked. Hugs...Nyms

I'm sure that if you could come up with a 20 plus or minus age for the neck that a collector might want it for an example to add to their collection.

That beautiful rim/base certainly deserves a better neck. The old neck might be nice with a gourd perhaps?

I'd put something more appropriate for a neck and keep that one for something. I saw that pot on Banjo Builders and wondered on the shoes. I thought they hooked on the bottom of the rim. Thats pretty cool . I hope you get the old gal' sorted. Thanks for sharing!

Just throwing this out there as a possibility. Not saying it is, but, with the small diameter, depth, drum like hardware (I have seen it on banjo too), and "foreign" neck, could it have started life as a drum and turned into a banjo? I have seen this before in my banjo collecting research. Neck would make a great canjo! ;)
