I used to duplex but i stopped because i do alot of pass shooting i'm not knocking it but for me i don't like it for late season goose over 40 yrds.I use itx alot for pass shooting as well it works good for longer range.I got the gaep tool for the crimp finisher but i couldn't get it nice now i no why i'm goin to get the skiver from them, nice crimps man.

I use a Gaep BN2 and don’t skive the hull. I get at least one more reload out of the hull by not skiving. I do trim the hull to a shorter length for better feeding through a Gold 10 ga. You can use a Cheddite 209 primer that are readily available with the heavy 1 5/8 oz steel load. To help with hull life I make a thin o/v card with a arch punch. The card helps opening the shell. For shorter hulls, such as the Winchester hulls; I have a 3 in 10 ga die that was shortened by PW. I have made spacers out of pvc pipe for different lengths. Don’t need to have the die in the shell carrier to crimp the hull.

I have tested standard strength such as win 209/cx2000 and got about 50-60 fps less. The fed 209a run almost the same velocity and CCI209m. I had mentioned to someone in comments about being able to crimp Without skiving, but a really good pre crimp is needed. I also have a shorter die I had made by PW for win and ched hulls. I like you pipe idea, I may try that.

@@avidwaterfowler7522 I found some thin washers as spacers as well, but used I believe the 3/4 in PVC joint. A Dremel cut of disk is easy if you don't have another method of cutting the PVC joint. I had to sand the inside slightly to get it to fit around the hull. I have three spacer thicknesses for Winchester, older Federal, and newer Federal, Remington hulls. You could bump the powder charge up 1 gr with the Cheddite primer and still be less psi than the Federal 209 primer. I have load data that is psi tested.

Man this video couldn't have came at a better time, I was just getting ready to order the BPI skiver but now I'm going to get the GAEP for sure. Those are some great looking crimps! Do you think similar results can be had on the Mec 600 Jr. I'll be using the same Rem 10 gauge hulls. I've been rolling them but want to get into fold crimping.
@avidwaterfowler7522
@avidwaterfowler7522 11 месяцев назад
Absolutely you can. A proper skiving, and good pre crimp can make that happen. Working the pre crimp and final crimp until you get the result you want is crucial. They guys trying to get it right with just one pull of the handle is tough. Steel shot just doesn’t compress and the lack of a cushion wad makes it even harder. I loaded my first few years of 10ga on an older mec 600 and it worked great!

I noticed you have a taper slot on your machine. I don’t have that on mine? I have the newer model which I bought in 2017. I’m having issues getting it to taper for 3 1/2 12 shells. 3” are fine. Like I said in a previous post I’ve been using it for about 6-7 years and love it.
@avidwaterfowler7522
@avidwaterfowler7522 11 месяцев назад
Do you mean the recessed circle for the shell head to sit? If you are having issues getting a taper, try setting your crimp a little deeper and then tapering. I will say, when I use to reload federal 10ga hulls. That plastic would not hold memory, I could taper it like crazy and then a day later the taper would be gone….

@@avidwaterfowler7522 Yes the recessed circle. I will try that and see how they come out. What I have been doing is I load the shell on the PE and then I run the shell over to the Mec final crimp to give it the rounded look I’m looking for. I’ve loaded on a Mec for years and got the new PW about 6 years ago. It works great but the only issue I have is getting the 3 1/2 shells to get that nice rounded at the end look. I run it back through the MEC final crimp to give it a rounded look. I’ll try that and let ya know how it does. Thanks for responding 👍👍👍

Have you had any issues/experience with the rim of these shells not fitting in your Gold magazine after you’ve fired then reloaded them once?
@avidwaterfowler7522
@avidwaterfowler7522 7 месяцев назад
I have seen case head swelling especially in the ched hulls. It’s somewhat more common in auto loaders, but over pressure will cause it as well. The older rem hulls had thicker steel heads over the new ones unfortunately. What load are you running causing case head swelling?
@derekmueller1401
@derekmueller1401 7 месяцев назад
Any load I’ve tried with these Remington hulls they seem to swell on the head and not allow it to fit in the magazine tube. However They work perfectly fine in my o/u and bps after firing and loading. With these hulls I follow the 1 1/2 ounce load data that’s provided by precision reloading for these wads
