Brings back memories of Desert Shield/Desert Storm for me! We moved way out into the desert and it took weeks for the mail to catch up with us. All our smokers ran out of their American smokes they brought with them, and so we were introduced to beedis!! Man, those first few had a huge kick to them . . .
I never heard of these until now. Where I was in the sandbox we were seldom without access to decent cigarettes. Apparently Northern Iraq had connections 🤣
Videos like this are a reminder that money is not so easy to come by for everyone. Bidis are sold really cheap even in the market, so these people have to make hundreds of them to make any meaningful money on any given day.

We used to smoke these in highschool in Australia if we didn't have enough money for a packet of cigarettes. If I remember correctly they were around $2.50 a packet in the early 90s 😂
dang. real cigs were $2.00 a pack here in america in the early 90's and once i was 18 i live close to north carolina and i use to drive down there to the border and got cartons for $10 now they're $60 that should be illegal for them to tax stuff like that. our founding fathers wouldn't have put up with this crap. that's why we left england in the first place was taxes!!!? and now they take close to half of everything we make? i wish people would wake the F*** up.

I remember buying these in the late 80’s in the UK, we didn’t even know that they were tobacco, they used to sell for 1 pound a pack from a hippy shop as they were called back then, in Portsmouth. We didn’t like them very much. I was about 14 at the time and they weren’t even sold as tobacco.

This is what tobacco should be. No added chemicals, no bullshit, just soil, water, sunlight and tobacco. Edit: When I wrote this comment I had no idea what a beedi was. We can put this to rest now.
Have you ever smoked one, broke it open and see what’s inside? The only thing resembling tobacco is the wrapper, it’s filled with broken twigs and stems.
@darqv9358 the leaf they roll it in is tendu and supposedly the filler is tobacco mixed with other plants. probably different brands use different mix. so beedi is not "what tobacco should be"
Believe it or not I used to buy these as separates (Individual Cigarettes) from our local Indian shop back in the 70's in England. I was about 12 year old. LOL. The shop owner used to sell these to us with 3 matches for about 4 pence. If we went to another local shop on the way to school we could buy normal western branded cigarettes for 6 pence each. The Indian cigarettes tasted better but we were never sure what was in them. I know, I know smoking at that age seems ridicules but that was life back then as long as your parents didn't find out. But there again some parents didn't seem to bother so much. It seemed like everyone smoked in them days.
70p for a single in the uk now and you dont get any matches, i gave up the fags years but i still smoke weed so instead of buying a 20 packet i just buy 3or4 singles , i grudge paying £11/£12 for a 20 packet when i only need a couple of them.
Plz brother we can transform bidi into cigarette, wrap tobbaco in leaf and make shape same as cigarette ( small cigar) without carbon filter , also we can add filter in Indian cigarettes , good idea ?
What's the string the lady rolling was using? Is it just regular string or coated in wax maybe? I'm just curious because it doesn't look like she actually ties the string around the cigarettes, looks like it's just a quick twist and it holds. Super cool video, you guys have some real skill 🔥
I admire the craftsmanship of these people, simply phenomenal. Unfortunately I have to say that I have doubts about the quality and I ask, should you smoke it or is it some kind of incense stick, I have to admit that I'm a bit confused
we used to smoke them in greece too sometimes it's been many years now 80 90 and even before i remember they always had a taste as if it was laurel we are supposed to be modern

traditional cigarettes were rolled with rolling paper / unfiltered. these are beedi's not cigarettes. there are other things mixed in beedis besides tobacco and the leaf they roll it in is also not tobacco.
They'd give you a slight buzz for sure since they're filterless. They had some that where "clove cigarettes" those were my fave! Illegal nowadays here in the states
Don't forget that these cigarettes have been all over the ground where their feet have been and that 1 guy's toe is even touching.A cigarette where a person's lips will be that is disgusting

Is that leaf she is cutting in the beginning supposed to be a bidi leaf as it’s definitely not a tobacco leaf, makes me question if that’s actually shredded tobacco going in those cigarettes or the very least the scraps of actual cigarette production that they most likely scrap
Using a wet cloth as a improvised filter would be greatly appreciated to enhance the experience. Otherwise it don't look like it has any sort of adequate filtering.
