I have always milk shared with a calf. I just bought a New Jersey with no calf though and am having to completely strip twice a day! Definitely a different set of worries with no calf! Thanks for the video :)

I just got milk sheep and that’s what I’m so worried about, that I won’t get it all out and cause mastitis. It tastes SO good though

Love your channel!! Would you say you should have NO milk come out when fully striped? Or you may have two or three squirts?

i am a first time cow owner, she just had her calf 1 week ago today. She had pink milk in her back udders which just cleared up. she has very small teats she is a dexter. she is very protective so i have to have a pallet between her and myself so she doesnt kick me, but my ? is how do i know if she let down her milk and how can i tel if she is milked out? she will only stand for so long and when she has had enough i have no choice but to stop. and i know there is still milk there. she and baby have ben stall bound for 4 straight days due to the hurricane that is just hanging here and my pens are all flooded now, so i know they are both stir crazy. i just dont want to harm her we have already been thru so much. thank you. baby is with her 24 -7 casue she isnt even a week old yet. thank you

I have a new Jersey. She is a first time freshener and has been in milk for a little over 3 months. My cousin has a dairy sold her to me because she has some frostbite on one of her teats. We brought her home yesterday, I taught her how to lead, introduced her to our stanchion, and milked her out. For everything she went through yesterday, she was really well behaved. We did have to hobble her because she lifts up her foot when we touch the injured teat, and understandably so. Getting her completely stripped out is definitely something that is occupying my mind, especially on the frost bitten teat. as well as treating her teat. I put vitamin E oil on the injured teat. There are so many products and recommendations out there. Does anyone have any recommendations?

Milking a heifer as a first time milker! I entered in with high hopes but we don’t even like each other too much now. How much resistance should be expected from her in the stanchion (kicking, swatting, holding back, fidgeting)? Help!

I have a question… so my jersey threw her calf on April 12th. So we’re in week three. I’m calf sharing. I separate them and milk her and reunite them. She is being fed alfalfa flakes, alfalfa pellets, grains and a mineral supplement. I am able to strip her out and her bag looks empty. She yields about 6 gallons a day. I’m getting barely any cream at all. Like, I get that calf sharing decreases the quantity of cream but I’m getting like a quarter of an inch of thick cream and an inch of light cream. Barely anything, and the milk tastes like skim milk. Is it because she’s early in her lactation cycle? Show I throw some regular hay into her ration? I don’t know what I’m doing wrong. This is her first lactation cycle ever too maybe that has something to do with it?

We have to put the calf on and let it nurse a few minutes before continuing to milk or we don’t get any cream.
