Hand Powered Band Saw Assembly and Detailed Views woodworking and machine video by Chop With Chris shows the assembly and function of this amazing contraption. I just acquired this amazing machine! I plan to add a flywheel and treadle to make it foot powered but in the meantime I thought you would enjoy seeing the detailed assembly and function. Chris

Really cool old tool. And it is obvious that it needs a flywheel and my old heavy duty Singer treadle. No you can't have it! LOL

That looks like it was made for an apprentice of 10-14 to power it while the master does the work. Great piece of history Chris!

Very nice, when I was a young boy I saw a man powered shop that a guy built himself. It was so interesting. It was set into the side of a sand hill near the banks of lake Sam Rayburn, most of the shop was underground with the roof only extending above the earth a few feet. His name was Oscar and he was a remarkable craftsman that could build anything. He had a tablesaw, bandsaw, lathe, and a drill press if memory serves me correct. I was amazed and loved his shop.

Man-o-man that is one cobbled up craftsman special, combining pre 19th and early 20th century artifacts. steel wheels, wooden frame, pillow block bearings, the makers back story is probably as interesting as the saw. Another Chris classic in the making.

Hopefully you will convert it to a treadle powered version! How to make a good flywheel that gives some of the incredible power of gyroscopic effects. Did you hear if the Besslar Wheel. Too bad we couldn't synchronize and lock onto that concepts workings or bring the man through directly!😂

very cool. I think it's wise to make it foot powered. seems difficult to man the wheel while holding wood to be sawn. would be a 2 person operation at least.!

You could get some bearings for the blade guides and maybe a foot peddle so you have both hands on the wood. Just a thought. Where did you find this work of art?!?

My uncle got it at n auction years ago. That’s all I know. I’m going to add a treadle for sure.

I bug bomb the risky stuff before I bring it into my house. Actually if I think there are termites in it then I just toss it. Not worth the risks

Hi, Chris. How are you? This machine is very interesting. I didn't quite understand how it is operated. Do you need two people to work with her? One person drives the lower wheel and the other pushes the wood? What is the approximate weight of the machine? Thank you and congratulations for the excellent purchase.

@@ChopWithChris a off set motor Maybe with a step down for more power then speed. (don't know how the sprockets would hold up to high speed) then perhaps a thick Plexiglas cover for the blade and wheels (so you can still see it but you don't bump into them. Again sexy piece I have never seen one like that with all the key pieces.

What a great tool 😍!! But hang on how are you meant to use it?? Was it designed to have a child turn the wheel while the master cuts?? I would definitely add a freewheel to turn it into a foot powered bandsaw. Very interesting. Thanks for sharing

I don't want to say anything bad, this is just a question: Why do you refuse to use power tools? Why is it better for you to spend way more time and effort with something that can be done much more easily? In my view, if the end result is exactly the same, but you can achieve it much easier and more efficiently, why would you choose the harder way? It just doesn't make sense. Our ancestort would have used powertools for woodworking if they've had the technology back then

Thanks for the question. Woodworking is a hobby for me. I like to challenge my mind and body to make things using no electrical power tools. It is a stress relief from my day job and keeps me in shape. All my projects things that I want, not need so there is no deadline to complete them. If had to make money doing woodworking the of course I would use power tools.
