You are amazing! I have a 10 year old grd son and he is starting to get interested in sewing, but he didn't think that men could sew so I showed him your work and some others and now all he wants to do is sew. He wants his own machine for Christmas.
That is great! I learned to sew by watching my mother when I was very young, but didn't really start to do it myself until I was 40.....If I had started much younger I think I would be so much more advanced! I think a vintage machine might be a great option. They have so little that can go wrong with them , are very easy to use and can be found at great prices......Merry Christmas to you and your grd son!!
I see you are not wearing thimble... and still produce tremendously neat quilting stitches...😍 l hand quilt a lot too and have to use thimble and even so still prick my fingers a lot
Tim, I admire your patience and devotion into your quilting. I just love the look of your quilting design: it is not complicated, easy to make (the ruler and the crayon). I just want to say thank you for sharing your expertise so generously. Please keep making videos because it is more easy to learn from watching it actually done. Thanks again for all your help with us.
My dad was a hand quilter starting in his 80's. I taught him and my mom after she had several strokes. Now he has past and mom lost her daily quilting partner . She still quilts but not like she did then. Oh by the way , he was left handed too and could only see out of one eye since childhood. You are very talented and I love your craftsmanship quilting. From one hand quilter to another, Thanks for sharing.
Magnificent video, it gives me hope for doing hand quilting myself. I’ve been watching a bunch of quilter’s bids and they seem to be wound up So Tight, now I understand why my accountant friend likes to quilt yet doesn’t - so many math problems to solve and so much pressure to get it right! I just want to make some nice quilts worth using and maybe even keeping. I also have a bunch of quilt tops from my great-granny that I’d like to finish and I think hand quilting is the way to go. If I get them done it will be at least 60 years from start to finish! (She died when I was 5.)
Wow, you do fantastic work. Great tip on the washable markers, I wouldn't have thought of those. I've had problems with the ink in Frixion pens not going away completely as you said, and the specialty pens are so expensive.
Excellent demonstration Tim. I have only just started hand quilting and so far have only just tackled cushion covers, but I love the technique. I live in wales , U.K. and it is my ambition to make a Welsh wholecloth quilt one one day. Thank you so much....! Best wishes, Mark.....
I love your videos. I do prewash my wool batting as well as the fabric as then it will not shrink much at all after the quilt is together. I have not had a problem with doing this. I do wash in machine on handwash cycle and dry in dryer on low.
Beautiful work, I just came across your video. I’m just starting for the first time, and hearing nine or more stitches per inch is far off for me. I’m surprised you don’t use a thimble and not sure if you do underneath. Time to check out your other videos. Thanks for sharing, I’m sure I can improve with your information.👍❤️😊
Beautiful work! Tell me, when you have the quilt in the hoop and you are rotating it as necessary, how do you handle all of the rest of the quilt? Doesn’t it get in the way? I think I would love the hoop method. Thank you for your teaching 👍
Wow! This is an amazing piece of your hand craft!! I'm a piece quilter but I have not hand quilted yet. I was recently making a few small cross stitch pieces for Christmas and after just 2 weeks, I decried trigger thumb. Have you ever had this? How do you avoid and treat issues so that you can continue to make your wonderful art?
I used Crayola washable pen color brown and I found it was harder to wash on lighter color fabric (I had dark color fabric squares and lighter color plain squares and it showed on the plain squares)....I would recommend to use as lighter a color as possible (so you can see the lines), avoid darker color if not necessary. Thanks for the recommendation of using those pens. Dominique
I have never had any problems. wash in warm water with regular detergent in the machine and they always come out for me no matter what color (but I have a top loading full filling machine.....high efficiency washers are a different story since the use such small amount of water and water is needed) ........one other thing that may make a difference is the water........every city has different water chemistry (PH, mineral content etc) and that can change how things react.
yes, I washed it by hand, the quilt was not finished, just the top part...and I wanted to remove the tracing to see what it looked like! Warm water wouldn't make the wool batting shrink? I thought it should be washed with cold or lukewarm/cold water...I certainly don't want it to shrink! Thanks so much for your quick answers. :-)
It did not shrink mine. ( I use Hobb's Tuscan wool batting, not sure how other brands work for this) and I even dried it in the dryer on low (never dry in dryer until you are sure the ink is out or the dryer could set the ink)....I have found it much more difficult to was them out by hand......
Your work is just amazing I love it I was wondering how many stitches you put it you make a time with your Nino how many stitches do you put a needle have a wonderful day happy quilting and keep up the beautiful work
Thanks for showing the marking. I tried that with a Frixion pen and discovered ghosting. Fortunately it was a small area on a busy print, so no harm. I only use it for marking HSTs etc. Anyway, your hoop and stand -- I like it. I've been looking for a decent one. Who makes your hoop and stand?
handquilting frame. I don't know what you're up to, but if you don't need it especially for quilting, maybe an embroidery frame would work, too. They are waaaay less expensive. :D
Hi Sandra. I used to have this problem. I just bought a used but better phone and found that sound quality was not the video but my old antique phone. Just a thought. Have a great day.
