I don't know if people understand the level of TRUST your mama Conure has with you and her babies.. You are truly blessed..Such a Beautiful experience..
Really good to see that level of trust, I used to breed budgies as pets and was never allowed to touch when they were that young, that said I don't think solely hand rearing is necessary, I had the same results if not better than a lot of hand reared birds just by spending a lot of time with the babies once they were old enough to come out of the nestbox (that is when they meet the rest of the flock and most of their social skills are formed right?), the plus side was that they had the birdy social skills taught by mum and dad, and the human side taught by me, but the sooner you can start co-parenting the better I'm sure!
Thanks for the comment Rose. I guess you are right. Not many people would realise what this all means. We certainly know it and appreciate it ourselves. The only thing Bebe does not like is my hand going in the nest box to fish the babies out. But the second they are out, she will sit with me and help with procedures the whole time. Then once again, I risk life and limb putting the babies away, because dad is on duty in the nest box!!
