For this project I used a leftover block of glulam beam from a previous carport project. Firs I drew an outline of a my hand on the surface of the block. Then I roughly cut of excess wood to get a rough shape of a hand. After further removal of wood with angle grinder, I proceeded with long process of whittling. I used my favorite box cutter and a few chisels. For the base I used 18 mm steel plate. I cut the rough shape with my steel cutting band saw and then finely shaped it using table and angle grinder. Base is atacched to the hand with one centrally positioned wood screw.

Dear Sir, Your original project becomes all the more interesting with the dexterity with which you handle that Stanley knife. Even most skilled craftsmen normally use dedicated sculpting chisels. I can just about open a carton with that knife yet you make look so easy( knowing full well how challenging it is to work with the wrong implement). Your work is truly astounding, great background music too I taught. Very well done my old fruit & kind regards.

Thank you so much :). I never tried whittling with real carving knives, my friend told me I'd be amazed how much easier it is.. I'm thinking of buying a set from ebay.. I saw a couple of old Japanese ones in great shape and I think I'l invest..

So cool! I love the HAND carving :) I really like how you made that steel base. At first I thought is was just flashing wrapped around the wood, but that's way cooler putting a solid block of steel! Awesome job lignum!

Thank you Eli! I had to put some heavy weight on the bottom so It wouldn't tip over. It turned out more stable than i thought.. Almost like no spill cup ;)

It's great! You do it perfect on the outside, the nails, the nuckles, so realistic, but I was wondering why you didn't do it more details on the palm. Im sure you can do it more real if you want. But it was just a piece of advise, I love it!

I do sometimes, but natural wood looks best to me, I like slowly changing color and patina, I think It's a part of it's charm :D Its not meant to last millenniums like stone..

I don't know, Just feels better I guess.. Sometimes I use dremel to remove rough chunks, but for fine details i use a knife.. Glad you like my vids! :)
