Daniels has one of the most beautiful voices in history. The fact that he is compelling onstage and very good looking are but two more factors in his greatness as an artist.
Not even the most stupid and silly stage costume could destroy such a magnificent performance. David Daniels is a wonder! Absolutely sublime countertenor.
Wie schön er singt. Wunderbar. Und das mit Hut auf dem Kopf. Dazu gehört schon was.
The lyrics of this aria are so simple, but David Daniels changes their meaning through his musical interpretation and his acting all throughout; you can feel the range of emotions, the stages of grief that his character suffers from beginning to end, from fear, to sadness, anger, and depression.
I love his vibrado. though I like Jarousskeys tone as he can articulate the highs of a falsetto better. both exemplify the required control...just at different competence in the myriad of things one must be mindful of when singing this way.
Not quite sure how the pimp suit fits into the equation, but his voice is gorgeous beyond belief. It manages an unprecedented amount of sweetness without losing depth or character. We're blessed to have so many talented countertenors among us.
I think there is neither 'best singer' nor 'best music', but only 'best interpretations' as unsurpassable osmosis between a singer, a music and you. Thank you for that one, David Daniels.
What a gorgeous and powerful voice. I love the purity and beauty of Jaroussky's voice, but it is missing the complexity, richness, and power of this man's incredible voice.
This "slower" tempo has the wonderful quality among other to allow relishing in the gorgeous color of the singer's voice & his rare because so perfect & generous singing. Not to mention his acting.
What a truly Sublime aria. Right to the heart and soul of the listener. Sheer unparalleled genius. I live around the corner from "his majesty's theatre" on the haymarket in London. Theatres have been closed for over one year. Of an evening when I go for a walk I see the ghost of Handel shuffingly into the stage door. Life is unadultered magic. And is as far removed from what we perceive as could be possibly imagined. You know it's the love and patience that create the miracles. Miracles outside of space and time. Everything of value cannot be seen with the human eyes. So said "le petite prince". I believe he was right.
gorgeous, gorgeous contralto sound. So perfect for the countertenor rep. Best countertenor ever. No more male sopranos... we need more countertenors like this!!!
Extraordinarily beautiful. And it's all here--the purity of the voice, the deep feeling, and the technical execution, all married to gorgeous music. Thanks for posting this.
Great Scott!! This is some of the best singing I have heard in YEARS. SO tasteful, such pathos, and the ornaments...I'm completely bowled over. Thank you for sharing this.
What a peaceful musical composition. There is really nothing to add about listening to this quite unique voice but just closing the eyes. Thank you very much for uploading +protestant7
Einfach wunderbar!
Intense, passionate, riveting, haunting. It´s hard to think of any better version of this magnificent aria (But I agree: the costume and the setting are appaling).
Gorgeous, clear voice. Heartbreakingly beautiful. I love the modern setting. It brings a new insight into the song, making it more accessible to younger audiences.
His voice is brilliant, this is a mix between the velvety voice of Andreas Scholl on the lower notes and the beading (as we say in speaking of wine) gas and air on the treble notes of Philippe Jarrousky. Extraordinarly beautiful ! Thanks for posting this !
Gorgeous. Gorgeous. Transcendent. Amazing. My heart is drawn right out of me on those long lovely notes. Totally beautiful. But I do hate the trenchcoat and hideous orange chairs. We just need to close our eyes and be transported!
I have so much admiration and respect for DD and his contributions to Baroque opera, although his very heavy vibrato always has bothered me. I have listened to so many performances (including two good ones by women) and have been able to compare them carefully. The most satisfying for me for timbre, breath capacity, technique, and interpretation is Dmitry Egorov. More Cara Sposa lovers should hear him.
One or two details aside, gorgeous rendition by David Daniels: bravo! Once the stage director, set designer and costume maker of this production will have crossed the Styx, no one will ever plead for their return.
