www.VideoJoeKno... Handicap ADA compliant restroom requirements (Part 1) are shown on this video series.
Do you have to upgrade your actual bathroom at your house to meet these ADA handicap restroom requirements? No...
These handicap ADA compliant restroom requirements are generally for commercial restroom applications. Commercial
meaning anywhere the public attends. This includes warehouse/office areas as well, since the ADA compliant restrooms
not only cover the general public at large...but your employees as well...that is if you have employees which most
businesses have. Joe is just going to review the many requirements for handicap ADA in general. Go to your local
building department & they can discuss all of the required measurements, etc with you. They will also give you an
ADA compliant handicap accessible handout that shows you all the measurements &/or all the applications that may
be involved with your particular situation. Handicap ADA compliant measurements, etc. not only apply to restroom
facilities but handicap parking, travel areas & access to building entrances, hallways, door entrances, etc.. Joe
will only be discussing bathroom issues for now. If any handicap ADA compliant issues may be effected by your
signing a building lease &/or existing building purchase, this should apply as well so I would recommend watching
this 2 part video series.

+alissabethla You can also go to your local building department & they should have a handicap handout sheet(s) they can give you that shows you all the details. Thanks for your message! Joe :0

And there's also the option of an automatic faucet. Those usually require batteries.

Automatic faucet?
@robertknight4672
@robertknight4672 7 месяцев назад
@@VideoJoeKnowsokay well there are multiple types of automatic faucets. I was talking specifically about the ones that have what I believe is an infrared sensor. Turn on as soon as you put your hands in front of it and turn off when you take them away. I work in a school where every sink has the style of faucet.

Can the flush be on top
@VideoJoeKnows
@VideoJoeKnows 10 месяцев назад
Good question but if you are asking for handicap accessibility then I would say know because if a handicap person was in there they might not be able to use their thumb or finger to push down on the button rather than reaching & pulling on a handle to flush...see what I mean?

Whats a toilet seat a little bit higher than a standard ? What if we don’t know what a standard toilet height is ? Could you give dimension since your carrying a Measuring tape ?
@VideoJoeKnows
@VideoJoeKnows 8 месяцев назад
A standard toilet seat height is around 15.5 inches to 16 inches & a handicap toilet seat height can be anywhere from 17 inches to 20" inches depending where you purchase your handicap toilet from.

Ugh, I hate lidless toilets.

I know what you mean but in regular public restrooms that's just usually what they have, especially for the handicap stall. Thanks for stopping by!

Justin Vancouver I wish I could say those are history now!....but hardware stores still sell them. Useful in some locations for sure.....but not in a handicap bathroom.

Do you know if the govt gives money to developers or rehabbers on making a home ada compliant?
@VideoJoeKnows
@VideoJoeKnows 8 лет назад
+MSGOODBAR Now that's a very good question. Go to your local building department & ask them if there is such a thing & maybe they can direct you to the proper authorities on the matter! Or check out with the government. Google it & see what pops up & check it out. I would be interested if you find such a program so I can share the info. in this comment area. Looking forward to hearing from you again. Joe :0

How big is the space ?
@VideoJoeKnows

Not sure how big the space was but I believe it was big enough to turn into a handicap toilet area at a church social hall.

This is a mess, not helpful at all. You didn't even measure the height of the toilet seat. It has to be 17-19 inches high in order to be ADA compliant.
@VideoJoeKnows
@VideoJoeKnows Год назад
I didn't have to measure the toilet since I know it's taller than a standard one. & you can get toilets even taller than what you mention as they have more taller sizes believe it or not...I'm not messing with you either.

Haha actually if the toilet is installed on the other side of the room lets say then you would have to order a toilet with the handle on the other side. Most local hardware stores don't have those so blame them! LOL if they don't then they can order....Thanks!

Only halfway informative. This guy is showing a residential bathroom and yet he talks about the requirements for public restrooms. This is confusing for anyone who wants to upgrade their home bathroom. He would have a better video if he appraoched the home bathroom by talking about how to make it usable/accessible explaining why some things work and othjer things don't. It is a big problem to tell people what he thinks the California law is but doesn't even know the federal law which applies to ALL states. I'll keep lookng for a reliable video by someone knowledgeable. DO NOT TAKE THESE IDEAS AS REQUIRED.

Stop using the word "handicap". It's a derogatory term. Instead use ADA compliant or accessible.
