I like how you handle the leather, the tool and the axe. That's so professional.. impresses me a lot! Enjoy watching you. Because you have also selected the right music for your clip. Everything is just right.. Thanks...
Just awesomeness. Love the red & black colouring. Also, appreciate that you took the axe and sheath out for a test chop/run. So interesting to see your work process. Thanks for sharing.
Great video-loved the result and the process behind it. The use of the ax in the field was an inspired addition. I am thinking that “freak of nature” must refer to this woman’s extraordinary (“freakish”) skills. Perry Pappous
Thanks so much Perry, I am very much a nature/outdoor enthusiast and am hoping to brand my stuff that way! It’s what I’m passionate about and want to share that with anyone that’s willing to watch :)
@@freakofnatureco lol sorry! Killinger (he has a RU-vid channel,) makes amazing axe handles and does some of the best leatherwork I've ever seen. It was a compliment.
Wow, gorgeous work, and a very fun video to watch. Love the little mistakes left here and there. I do wonder though, for the handle guard, if you choke up on the axe to do some fine work, the stiches will be in your palm, might be more comfortable with the stiching to the front. Look forward to the next one!
That is a different idea.. luckily this is our personal axe and we just use her to chop wood… no fine work ;) but definitely something to keep in mind thanks
Great video. Great job. I am going to try that. I had only seen mixing different colors on the edge with an airbrush. Time to try it by hand. Thank you.,
Great job ! I also made a similar cover for an ax. But I didn’t process it with anything other than oil, and I drilled holes with a screwdriver))). I have a lot to learn from you.
From someone who used to make a living with an axe almost identical to that one, the leather wrap under the head would be better in blaze orange. On my axe I painted that exact same area blaze orange. I did this to prevent me from losing my axe if I put it down. Other people I worked with would lose their axes, I never did.
Another great sheath. Hope you keep growing the channel. In the future i would like to see you use electric tape on blades you work on for safety for the people who gets inspired by you.
Work of Art as usual! Also, I cut wood 1/2 my life to heat our home and every one of the females just stayed in the house and burned it up. I could'a used your help 👍👍
Awesome-sauce Brittnay...keep em coming. Hoping to see a hot tent vid this year with you and T bro.. Question? Did you always do leatherwork as a hobby, or is this something new that you wanted to do? Interested in Starting as a side business... cant beat your skills tho, last leatherwork i did was when i was 15 in 4H camp... 42 yrs ago as im 56 now. lol) Also notice youre not presoaking ...is that not needed for sheaths and axe covers? Lemme know.
Hi Chris! :) we’re hoping to get out too… things have just been crazy busy. And I only started leather working about 2 years ago.. it was my COVID hobby. But it soon became an obsession and now I’m hoping to go full time with it one day :) and you don’t always need to wet mold… but doing so definitely makes a snugger fit…. I just find it ruins my tooling when I do… still gotta figure it out. Thanks for watching! And Never to late to start or restart ;)
Question: how do you get the leather to not leak the dye upon getting wet? I used a dye from Tandy Leather on some Veg Tan leather, but even months later it leaked dye. The video looks great and the music is great. Version 2 of your axe cover request*: could the blade guard somehow be designed with a belt loop? That would be cool and convenient :) *This comment is NOT intended to be malicious.
I’ve always use Fiebings pro dye (not to be confused with Fiebings dye… needs to have the word “pro” on the bottle or it’s no good. And I always make sure the dye is dry prior to wetting and I’ve never had a leaking issue. Then seal that sucker up with some top coats. Ouuu interesting.. I’ve never thought of that… I’ve made axe molles before but never combined it with the actually guard itself! Possible future project… thanks! :) and thanks for watching :)
@@freakofnatureco Np. Follow up question: what did you mean by "make sure the dye is dry prior to wetting"? Unless you meant "make sure the {leather} is dry prior to {dyeing}"?? Best, - Your fellow maker
I meant wet molding* , but now re-reading your question, I see you weren’t asking about that! 🤓🙃 … i use a couple different sealants to keep my dye from leaking… first I’ll use fiebings resolene or zelikovitz professional top coat and lastly I apply is snow seal. It seems to do the trick for me. Haven’t had any issue yet. Sorry for the mix up :)
This Chick's very handy, & she's easy on the 👀 eye's too, loose the music it's distracting, & measure twice, Cut only once...i enjoyed the video Krazzee Ol Uncle "B"...🤠
Beautiful result and great videography and editing. I recently made a sheath for my hand axe. The second attempt was okay but the first was slightly too small and, after wetting the leather and trying to wriggle it on, I sliced through the folded section with the toe! 😂
Who wouldn’t want a wife that could make custom sheaths for their knives and axes? She’s a keeper for sure! That sheath looks amazing. Thank you for sharing what all goes into making it.
So, on my random video feed...at 3 o'clock in the morning, I am awakened by BANG BANG BANG......I look at the video and say to the TV, "JESUS, Lady! Would ya stop all the....Hey! Watcha makin'?!??!?!" Instantly hooked on your channel out of a dead sleep. I'd say you are doing a GREAT JOB!!!!
@@freakofnatureco Why, thank you! I am normally not a fan of "non-commentary" RU-vid channels but yours is fantastic and right on the money, "content-wise". I thoroughly enjoy it!
It’s just so cool and rewarding to see a whole world of makers out here. We’ve finally risen up and are able to do what we do. Beautiful work, I look forward to what’s next, an I can’t wait. Also, I’ve never seen a tooling machine like that, what is it?
Thanks so much! And I agree! There so many ppl out there making things by hand and putting it out there… I would have never gotten to where I am if it wasn’t for those ppl on this platform! I call myself RU-vid educated ;) thanks for watching. And I’m assuming your talking about my arbor press? It’s amazing! So many snaps saved! :p
Love it! I restore old axes and make sheaths for them, while they are nice, I keep them a bit on the rough side. I found an old leather drive belt at a thrift store and have been using it for my projects. The aged leather looks incredible when finished. I hit it with fresh black dye and black shoe polish and rub the hell out of it.
Nice work 👍. I'm sure that Julia over at Wetterlings would appreciate the love you put into that axe. I have several sharp axes that need this treatment, and all the tools and materials to do the job. So many projects. But right now I need to make sure I have enough firewood before the next snowstorm.
Ok and it's a Wetterlings 😮 Thank you so much for this video AND the leather supplies links!!! I would buy these for my boys axes or my near future forest axes in a hot second! If not I guess I'm taking up leather working 😁
