We are on the outskirts of the tourist town of Kalambaka located at the base of the cliffs with monasteries of Meteora, the famous monastic center of Greece, second in importance after the Holy Mount Athos, and we visit the workshop-exhibition of Zindros icons. Established since 1974, the workshop aims to make icons that exactly reproduce the old Byzantine icons. Over the years, the workshop-exhibition-shop has gained a well-deserved international fame.
After in the previous episode ( • Semnificația unor icoa... ) a local lady guide of Romanian origin gave an interesting lecture to our Romanian group regarding the meaning of some very special icons, coming from the monasteries of Meteora, as well as from the rest of Greece, but also international, in the present video, she also shows us the most important sector of the store-exhibition and which contains icons covered in silver. The most valuable are unique icons hand-made by priests and monks from Mount Athos. A good part of the silver icons (raw silver, not plated) reproduce the old icons presented in the theorizing exposition on icons. Silver icons come in various sizes and although a little more expensive than wood-painted, lithographed or serigraphieed icons, they retain their value over time. The silver icons that the guide presented to us, describing their benefits, are the following: the icons from the Holy Mount Athos, "Our Lady of Jerusalem", "The Garden of the Our Lady”, "Our Lady with 7 arrows", "The Mother of God with the Immortal Rose", the icon of Saints Nicholas and Spyridon and, finally, the "Star of Life" (or the "Burning Pyre").
