This series of drills is used with the purpose of developing quickness at the hands, shoulders and power at the hips and feet while coming out of the player’s stance at the point of attack. I use repetitions of these drills everyday to develop quickness and power in the player’s arms and legs that they will be using while playing football.

@godsentroyal as a defensive lineman you cant be looking down the line at the ball because that split second when the ball is snapped is too crucial. the offense knows the where the ball is going, so they have an advantage. you need to be able to react to the movement of the offensive lineman. when he moves, you move. if he moves too early, its a penalty, so you can trust his movement and wont lose the split second of when the ball is snapped.

@mwmyers14 I agree with the swim move. Try that at upper levels of football and your gonna get some sore ribs. I say but and rip and undercut them.

@Stephthatackle idk what line judges you have played with, but the footage of their games should go under review.

@coachanderson37 the overhand swim move doesn't work well in high school+ levels of football. if you try the old school overhand swim your side is gonna get destroyed by the o-line men.

To use the swin/rip move you must push with the off hand and creat separation. Or there going to have a bad RIB injury.

D-Lineman shouldn't look at the ball, they should go off there key. Offensive Guard/Tackle if they move you move.

So you're teaching kids to fire their hands off their hips...? What about keeping their hips corked? If you don't cork their hips before the drills, they are just lunging at the bag. You have them staring at the ball instead of focusing at their target. That's why your players stood straight up when they were doing the rip drill.
