Under the new regime of Georges Kern, there have been a lot of design changes - the new for 2018 Breitling Chronomat is one of them. With a new bezel, brushed finishes and other changes, the Chronomat is poised to bring in new buyers for Breitling's future.

They got the bezel right now, but they removed the winged logo which was a step back. The Airborne version was about perfect. The older black eye blue had a nicer blue dial too.

Dial from the old, bezel from the new. That would have nailed it, but as of now, I like the old one better

the old chronomat with mirror polish really looks bad ass. I had nothing against the font, but i can understand the critics. This new brushed version with less complicated dial really fades in comparison. It has much less character. Stop playing it safe, Breitling !

100%. It's completely understandable - especially if you're an enthusiast. There's a lot of changes going on. We're still not sure (at all) about the lack of strap changes. That was one of the things that set Breitling apart. But, we think the new Premier line is pretty good looking.

The Chronomat’s bezel was unique to it. This new bezel seems almost like a Breitling generic bezel, so to speak... It’s similar to the Avenger, the Colt, the old Superocean diver... For me the best looking Chronomat was the first one. The one with big Roman numerals. It was unique.

Very much so. It is the standard iconic Avenger/Colt - and discontinued Superocean bezel.

@@BurdeensJewelry I've had a blue Avenger on a bracelet for over 8 years now. I love it. It's one of my favourite watches. Had the bracelet polished for the first time recently and the watch looks at good as new. However it's nice to have another Breitling with a different bezel. Like the one on the old Chronomat. Which I'm glad to see they are still offering with Carbon dial. And another dial variation (that I can't remember 😄)

I have one. Love it. But the crown is so hard to grip when winding.

With their size, Breitlings are a lot easier than other watches. Rolexes (Daytonas) and some smaller Omegas (like 40 mm Speedmasters) are notorious for being difficult to wind because of the relatively small crowns. Given the tapered shape of this crown, we can see that the Chronomat is a bit more difficult, but believe us, this is a lot easier than some watches out there.

These Breitling model's are more appealing to than the new 2020's but the 90's are the best, IMO

Would the bezel with the numbers be interchangeable with the bezel with the lines? I have the one with the lines but I like the way the numbers look.

Well... Our watchmaker says you COULD do whatever you want because the dimensions are the same but we would suggest changing it back before selling it or doing any scheduled service with Breitling.

I think the new one looks way better. However, they did fix the clownish bezel, which is a plus, but now they removed the beautiful classic Breitling wing logo on the dial. 1 step forward, 2 steps back kind a deal. But overall a looker! Thnx for sharing

You are right with the bezel and less polish. But the new logo & boring dial just makes it look cheap & totally uninspiring. I hope they will fix these issues soon. Old chronomat was my daily wearer for 5 years and the only annoying point for me was the bezel.

Your sentiments are echoed by a lot of Breitling enthusiasts. We think the new/old B is slowly becoming more accepted, but yes, the wings are still beloved.

They should've put numbers on the rider tabs, otherwise is a useless bezel. Just put numbers on the tabs and its the perfect watch

We think that Breitling's intent was to simplify the overall styling of a lot of their watches since Georges Kern's arrival. One of the knocks against Breitling has long been "busy" designs - even the iconic Navitimer can be intimidating for new buyers. So it seems that Breitling has been moving toward more classic designs in recent years - starting with this Chronomat.

They took away the bezel I hated, but added the logo i hate even more. My suggestion, get the Chronomat Airborne. Good review.

Only pros I see on the new chronomat models are ... 1. Doing away with the large numbers on the bezel 2. Bi-directional bezel 3. Brighter trigicon like chemical for the night glow feature. Other than that.....mehhhh....I prefer my 47mm gmt

They are loosing all of the reasons why I liked Breitling. The new B logo is not as attractive as the winged logo. The all brushed look just isn’t Breitling. The new Colt dials are crap dull and uninteresting when compared to the older versions.

Check out the new Premiers. They're pretty cool. If you don't like the Colts, these new Premiers might be a good alternative.

@@BurdeensJewelry The new Premier is easily the best new release from Breitling in 2018. I don;t like the new Chronomat either. I find it very bland (like the Colt). The B logo looks better on dress watches like the SOH and Transocean. The winged logo is better for tool watches like the Navitimer and Chronomat.

I heard the new breitlings have less AR coating? Is this true?

We haven't seen any difference in the AR coating in how they look. Omegas have always been very aggressive with AR Coating in the past. Our reps haven't mentioned anything about changing the amount of coating on their watches.

We don't know yet. The gold versions have retained the legacy design, so Breitling seems to be keeping one foot in the old designs, one foot in the new.

It's been several months since we made that video and unfortunately, there has been no GMT for the Chronomat. They are continuing to revamp the lineup like the all-new Superocean II and Avengers.

Horrorble.... The new one is Horrible... Looks like CASIO Edifice.... What did Kern do? Second: A BREITLING without the Wings is not a typical BREITLING, which you can see from 1000meter away that iit is an BREITLING!!!
