Korg does a great job at creating fun unique synths at far price. I have a Monotrone delay synth, a Monotribe synth, and a "vintage" Korg Electribe EA-1 and they are fun to use. Also, after seeing tons of RU-vid videos of people using these, the Volcas seems to be a huge upgrade to the Monotribe because they have MIDI in, and an actual LED screen that displays the tempo while your using the tempo knob. Korg, if your reading this, you may have just found another happy Volca costumer. I'm thinking about getting the Volca bass; well done Korg!
The 303 was never a toy its purpose was to replace bass player wile composing a track, The good thing about the Volca Bass is that is has the same 12db filter of the vintage MIni Korg. I would like to get one, maybe the Korg Keys is more versatile cause it cant puck up some great bass sounds :)
Lets see if any of you guys can help me :) I have the roland tr8 & tb3 linked with mix tr8 to mono tb3 & midi synced out of tr8 to midi in tb3. ive NOT got the volca bass yet because i wanted to know if i can connect them How would i introduce the volca bass to the set up? The only output & input left are assignable out & midi in on the tr8, and the midi out on the tb3. :) :) :)
Rey Anthony yeah mate, this works with the korg synced to the rolands but the korg seems to need its own channel on the mixer. i have tried using a splitter. but the pre amp in the korg seems to effect the sound. i was wondering if there was a way to get the tr8, tb3 and the korg to run on the same channel? cheers jimi. rock on
It's the delay on the keys. I own one... It's only an issue you want that hyper polished 80s sound. The delay can be "linked" to the tempo. So that noise, if used well just becomes another element of percussion....
right then questions from a thicko that knows nowt 1) does it matter if you have all three which connects to which and if so would that change the sounds ? : 2 ) whats a midi master clock ? ive never used midi although i have a few keyboards and a mini synth that has midi in out e.t.c : 3 do these come with the connectors to connect them together
very pleased!!! Beats is a good clock runningout the sync plug to my monotribe as wellas to my old electribe.running 2 micro korgs midi conncted thru to volka bass and keys all to kaossilator pro in to loop channels withkaos pad in between!! Ratsnest of wires but what fun!!!
@Tadooko Not really the same, these are stage ready and on the go. You need alot more for the Phatty to be used on stage right out the box. For the price their awesome and not cheap at all. Moog equipment is just too damn expensive and you shouldn't have to pay thousands of dollars for this technology.
Hey, what do you use to connect all volcas to one output/to record? I've been trying to find something on the cheap and haven't been able to find anything, only expensive mixers.
These boxes only have midi in, so yes, just connect your midi master clock device to the midi in on one of the boxes, and use the phone jacks to daisy the rest of the boxes. The power adapter costs about 1/3 of the unit's price, so it's just likely a marketing thing to not include it with the unit. But even if you have to buy a separate power adapter, just think of the Volca Keys for example; who else makes polyphonic analog synths at this price, than Korg?
now this kinda sucks.. there are better reviews and demos already. interesting side you show of the volcas though, but i would check the way of limiting and EQing, can be done better ;)
I don't know how I feel about all this. I love KORG but at this point in my career I want something more versatile and KORG has always let me down when it comes to updates on their hardware. I question the MIDI capabilities. If all three are daisy chained on a phone jack, do you only need to buy an additional one MIDI cable to sync them to a master clock? or do you need three separate MIDI cables? also, why not include the AC power adapters? curious.
Real noob here.. Can anyone tell me if using a 3.5mm to 1/4" cord would work for hooking my volca beats/bass directly into an amp without losing any sound quality? I'm not using any other equipment yet as I'm just getting into all this. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
By having to buy them separately gives you more choices. For example, you might be happy with the drum machine you already own, so you have the option to not buy the Volca Beats. If all of these boxes would be combined into one unit, then people would complain about the price, and of how it would overlap with the gear they already got, etc..
Sorry digital wins out every time, I mean I'm listening to this over the 'net through RU-vid, that's as digital as it gets. I can imagine people recording these and uploading to Soundcloud - lol.
these units have audio click track capabilities (1/8" stereo jack in/out on ever unit) as well as MIDI. I was wondering if you wanted the three to operate as slave, then do you just put the master clock signal in one of the units, then chain the remaining two with phono cable. OR do you have to link all three via MIDI cable. I'm assuming you only need to master clock the initial unit. the rest will use the audio click syncing capabilities.
The sync in and out from each module is used to carry the audio. The last module would use a 1/8 inch to Stereo TRS cable, into two separate channels into your interface.
where the 3 aux go ?? i dont understang ... i want to buy that machines, they are going to be my firsts , you can conect the 3 machines with just one aux cable? (to the speakers)

Usually you need a mixer to connect more than one audio source to an amplifier... There are many small and cheap alternatives.
+James Stethem lol, no! what you should do is connect your Volca Sync In with your Midi Through with an adapter. some adapters might require juice, then you just plug that in to your Volca's DC In. Boom, magic!
The answer is sadly no, as far as I know. It can be synced to other things I just don't know how to do so. I only know how to sync it to other Volcas, as shown above. The sync signal is sent through a 9mm port next to the headphones port.
You need a 3.5mm to 3.5mm cord (just noticed I said 9mm earlier, lol) and you just link them to each other using the sync in and out jacks next to the headphone port. They will sync together and then you can control their tempo by using the knob.
You can pick up a Belkin Rockstar for £5-£10 on ebay or amazon and you could use that as a simple way to route the audio. And seems as the Volca's are all mono it won't really matter unless you want to use external effects.
I'm still leaning towards the Volca trio myself. The new Roland stuff may sound better (despite being digital) but still a little limited in terms of sound design and functionality in certain ways. Also, you can't ignore that all three Volcas cost $50 less than a single TR-8. Now we just need to hear Akai's new Rhythm Wolf to make a firm decision.
Tr-8 + volca keys + volca bass. serious combo. dont bother with tb -3, i think its boring as fuck , but each to their own. 303 was famous for its analog sound, and digital doesn't come close - if you are gonna get a cheap digital version, go all the way, and just settle with korg bassline. you could by a proper 303 analog clone for just over twice the price of a tb-3. saying that to someone who doesn't know 303 sound well, the tb3 probabaly sounds great.
If everything was Moog electronic music would be boring. These are amazing little synths , I own all 3. Korg should be commended for releasing a decent a set of decent synths at such a good price. The price of all these synths still don't equal the price of the phatty, together they all cost a little less than a Minibrute !!!!
While you sit and judge these as " not moogs" I've been making sick tracks them. I have a Moog little phatty and sub phatty , along with all the volcas . The volca's hold up great with external FX so get off your high horse . Plus all 3 of these units are half the price of a little / sub phatty ,so your comment is just closed minded.
