I too think this truck looks sick, especially with factory 35s. You have to do a lot of cutting on a Tacoma to even make 33s fit well without rubbing off road. Oh, and side note, these are definitely 35s, not 34 point whatevers. Tires labeled 35 (usually 35x12.50r…) are also only 34 point whatever inches tall.
GM really does have something special with the ZR2 lineup and yeah they should make these trucks even more special due to them being their halo truck lineup.
The Colorado version is atleast pretty special. Dual lockers, longer travel suspension, active suspension, bumpers and unique interior. I think that qualifies its trim level....other trucks idk
@@mathieuk119 I'd definitely consider the Colorado variant to be the center of the two. The Silverado and especially the HD models just look like mild upgrades from their other trims while the Colorado ZR2 is much different than the lower trim models. It is also the first name plate to have the ZR2 trim as well. All they need to do is slap an engine in it that would separate it from the lower trims to make it truly special.
I've been seeing quite a few new Colorados on the road lately and they look much better up close. I personally think the GM designers did a great job of balancing over designing ( polarizing) and blandness.
just get those sumo spring bump stops, and honestly, I put a decked pull out drawer system in mine all it did was level it with all my tools, that's on the 1500
Consider it has full armor already. If you took a stock Tacoma and put a winch bumper, rear steel bumper, and full skid plates you'd take 200-300lbs out of the payload.
Fuel economy was never mentioned for the Colorado ZR2 Bison. With the 35’s I expect to see 17-18 mpg from the 2.7L 4-banger turbo. That poor fuel mileage is unacceptable for a midsize truck. The upcoming 2024 Tacoma TRD Pro hybrid should get 25-27 mpg.
@@mini2nut67 You're really comparing dramatically different levels of off-road performance. The Tacoma doesn't have long travel suspension, doesn't have a front locker, doesn't have a winch capable bumper, has smaller and much less aggressive tires.
I agree on the Tacoma TRD Pro vs. Colorado ZR2 Bison capability. By the time you upgrade the TRD Pro performance to the ZR2 Bison level you’re probably gonna have similar mpg. I love Toyota (as I own a 2022 4Runner TRD Pro now) but I just don’t think they’re offering anything comparable to Chevy and Ford (with the Ranger Raptor) level of performance this generation.
Great review, Andre and TFL crew. All three trucks are awesome. Hands down absolutely all leaves the compilation miles behind. Seriously, trade in the Dodge Ram HD and get the ZR2 HD, that deserves the name TRAILHOUND.
These prices are absurd. I paid $70K for my brand new 2020 Denali 2500 Duramax with the Z71 off road package. I had skid plates as well. No front or rear locker but $90k+, gimme a break.
Fifty or sixty thousand dollars for a Colorado and a dead battery is free. Don't go camping on the desert in a Colorado for a few days you may not get back.
He'll no they haven't fixed the dead battery issue . At 10 months on my 2023 Colorado trail boss my damn acdelco battery had dropped to only 7 amps. Had to buy a new battery!
When I grew up in the 1980s & 1990s, a Mid-sized Truck was always $20,000 less than a Full-Sized Truck. This is Horse S**t that mid-sized are so much. I can lift and pimp a Maverick for $5,000. Who has $60,000 for a damn truck?? Who?? Apparently everyone is rich as hell and I'm broke, and I'm a pharmacist who makes $120,000/year before taxes.
This is the large wage inequality that US Corp execs make 436x the ave company worker when in the 70s it was 6x. US ranks 4th worst in the world for this most important wage metric. And GOP will even fight to the end to stop Min wage increases every year. But they'll have us focussed on cultural issues to fight like wokism or Merry Christmas or bathroom use... we can vote smarter.
Corporate Executives have that kinda money that's who. For the last 45 years those execs have voted for their own pay increases while holding down employee pay and benefits at every turn. In 1980 Exec pay was 6x the ave employee, today it is 436 x what their employees make. That takes planning and consistent fights against labor like busting unions and GOP corporate handouts of lower taxes. The actual Pandemic inflation was only 30% of the price increases you see, the rest 70% is corporate price gouging. The saying in the board room is never waste a good crisis. They gouge -then blame the issue of the day. Remember what they say when the minimum wage ever has a chance to be raised, they threaten they must layoff employees. Don't buy their BS nor their products if you can help it. That is why they want monopoly power and this quasi-Capitalism (actually its a Mixed Market economy with subsidies for several industries) always ends up with less competition, not more...
OK. This was not meant to be turn into an argument about Capitalism, Unions, Communism, whatever. Just trucks. In the 1980s & 90s, GM & Ford sold the most piece of shit cars. Why? Because they could get away with it. 2024. You can get away with it. Why? Because idiots buy new cars. The Public is either stupid as shit, or the Public is insane. That is why. Only an insane, idiot, fool, filthy rich dumb-ass, would pay $80,000 for a new truck.@@jr.6199
On the transmission going into park when opening the door, if yours eat belt is on they usually won't go into park. I get seat belt extenders on all my pickups and it defeats the nanny that places transmission into park when the door is open. It also eliminates the annoying beeps. I like the half ton ZR2 with the diesel for the best all around package.
If you do all of this work, it would be nice if you just made a few charts/graphs comparing them all 3. Start with the charts/graphs, and then go into the exterior/interior. So simple.
Hey Andre so you guys lately have been looking at the cheap trucks then the bison. I would like to see you choose from the middle of the range like LTZ or Trial Boss....
Wish the 1500 ZR2 Could fit actual 35’s. Maybe during refresh they can find the space? Interior is finally worth the price and competitive vs competition
What’s the choke point for 35s on the 1500? I’m not familiar with them. You might be able to get away with a narrower 285 75 18 (35x11) on factory wheels.
@@Imnotimpressedbyourperformance You can tune it. Plus 310 hp and 430 ft-lbs of torque is plenty of power! My 2018 ZR2 has 310 hp and 285 ft-lbs of torque and it burns the tires off.
@@Imnotimpressedbyourperformance I’m saying it has the least amount of power between ranger Rapter and taco trd pro, but still is super powerful. Plus, I ain’t scared to get electrocuted on the hybrid and ain’t got worry about the pain in the butt some v6s are.
lol, I thought you was talking about it vs the taco and ranger! 😂. Well of course it has less power than the others but the power to ratio is high on the zr2
Remember back in 2006, when someone who made $50,000/year before taxes, was able to buy a $400,000 house? That must be the world today. Houses usually increase in value, 99% of cars depreciate.
Technically, the bison is not road legal in New York where I am because the tire is completely in the view of the mirror in the center of the glass 😮 idk if that’s going to be in issue
@@wint_62I would where I live. I live in Central NY in the snow belt area and wouldn't use it road driving but I would getting in and out of my driveway during the winter and places I go trailering my snowmobiles to trail heads etc.
@wint… I feel offended by your projection. Just because you don’t use them it doesn’t mean other more manly man are not using them. For example, just so you see, every time I roll out of a Starbucks ( and I go to Starbucks at least twice a day every day), I use the front AND rear lockers to crawl over the tall edge of the Starbucks’ parking lot. I understand that I could just use momentum but then I would risk splashing the latte I just purchased. With the lockers on I can slowly in very controlled manner crawl over the obstacles of the Starbucks’ or the mall. Front lockers are a must for my active lifestyle.
I’m okay without the front locker, personally. I have an F150 with a rear locker only, and I’ve needed it only a couple times in 3 years of owning and off roading the truck.
I have a 2005 2500 hd beefed suspended used it to pull a 32 ft 5 wheel. Its a duramax diesel with only 145000 miles. I think i will just keep it .the high prices on a trk like mine is about 80000 plus
All of those trucks are way too expensive, especially with the strike going on is just gonna cause the manufacturs to praise the prices even more, it's stupid.
I got my Silverado zr2 and was bummed when it didn’t have the sport mode my Denali had hopefully gm will add it on an update also the loading screen and the truck on the screen is an lt not a zr2 gm should offer an update so zr2s stand out more
A v6 turbo Colorado would be good competition for the other suped up mid size trucks like the ranger raptor. But it also seems so pointless to make. Then no one would buy a the 4 cyl turbos
Ok, do any of these GM products have limited slip or locker front axles? This is more important to me than tires and drive modes and electric gadgetry. For that matter, what diesel heavy duty trucks have limited slip front differentials?
Colorado bison is 52k at my dealer, drove one yesterday. On the articulation rack it did ok, not great, my Tremor did better. I only have added 35in nittos and DV8 bumpers. No reason they couldn't do integrated tips like sierra. The 3.0L is $3000, the y.2 is 3800
I feel like you all are working too hard on too many things. You all have 20 different things going on. I wish you would just focus on Trucks/SUVs, how well they perform on-road/off-road, Colorado trails, towing, and VALUE. My favorite videos are things like the 2006 Touareg/MB vids. I will never buy a $70K vehicle and bash it around off-road. I wish you made videos of used Trucks/SUVs with 100K miles on them, and put them to the test. We are poor people, we don't have $70,000 to just spend. Thank you.
😂 Nobody's ever satisfied. Do you really think it would be that much of a difference? Do you think that you will be in a situation where you think " if I only had 20-30 more hp" I could get out of here 😂.
I agree about the 6.2 it’s had 420 hp for 10 years. The ford 5.0 makes 400 and is 1.2 liters smaller. Also only makes 25 hp more than the 5.7 hemi being half a liter bigger. It should be 450-475
I like the trucks. Unfortunately I've learned my lessons with buying new and for me, I will never buy another new vehicle. They are literally programmed to fail after a certain time.
Biggest yes colorado never been bigger lol don’t think that’s good thing though . Perfer older mid size truck feels like full size truck with full size prices 😂
Wheel size on silverado smaller than the Colorado. Very big fail from GM /Chevy part. You can't even squeeze a 35 on the silverado without major rub. The second issue is if you do lift the truck, you lose the 4 high capabilities. Another failure. The third issue is they still have the worst fuel mileage. A ZR1 corvette gets better fuel mileage than this truck. Very sad day for the silverado.
GM would have great off road vehicles if it wasn't for the 💩 front suspension! They have the most skin in the game as far as IFS, yet refuse to change the design for their off road vehicles! Yes, it makes for a great on road tow rig but it does Not have the travel nor strength for a competitive off road desert rig...
Thanks for showcasing the smallest percentage of trucks the largest percentage of the population cannot afford!! 👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼. Keep up the great fantasy videos. 😂😂
Colorado owners are complaining of buckling roofs. Fuel mileage was never mentioned for the Colorado ZR2 Bison. With 35’s my guess is 17-18 mpg. That’s about what a normally aspirated small block V8 gets. YIKES!!!
@@mini2nut67IT IS !!! I was thinking about replacing my current Tacoma due to its crappy mpgs but after seeing the reported range for these new trucks (Colorado, Tacoma 4th gen) it makes no sense.
