Time to check out a smaller footprint version of the Vyper Chair (23" v. 26"). This one is called the Robust Steel Max. I really like these chairs! I think with a few minor adjustments, these will be the ultimate chair to have in the garage. We'll be stocking these soon!

Well said. All of the other chairs are junk. This is what it costs to make something in low volume with quality components. Building something the way it needs to be for what it costs and adding a margin to allow the business to survive is what I prefer.

I have two at least 35 yr old screw drive stools one short & one taller that function just fine because no pneumatic's to go out. IMO this is the preferred stool height adjustment method for longevity. I'm looking at getting one of the Elevate Max Models to replace my taller one as it doesn't have wheels or wheel inserts & only 4 legs. I will keep my smaller old one because it works perfectly for doing dirty stuff, i.e. painting, where I wouldn't want to get an expensive chair dirty & it is also a much smaller footprint I added 4" wheels to replace the1.5" on it. However, I certainly am looking forward to the Elevate max to use more as a desk & sitting chair in my garage.

The construction looks great and having the large casters is awesome. That said, the base is still a bit wide for detailing, all of the exposed metal parts are what would bump into your car if it rolls (a rubberized finish or bumper on the round bar would help), and the tool tray would need weep holes as it would frequently be wet and it's not super easy to wipe out around the support bars. Picky stuff, I know, but thinking if what would be ultimate at least for detailing.
@JohnVanderbeck
@JohnVanderbeck 3 года назад
"picky" is the difference between a good product and a stellar one. I agree with everything you said. I think the size is ok but the rest, spot on. I also think that tool tray needs some redesign to bring it in from the edge some or some sort of edging to make it safer.

Looks like a high quality comfortable chair but I agree with you Matt - TOO BIG. Too cumbersome for working on a car in a garage where space is somewhat limited. I have a Cheesy Torin chair now and while it's a cheap chair and not al l that comfortable it is small and does sneak around the car in tight spaces. You could ask them t o scale it down 20 - 25% and see how that works.
@jeffg.7
@jeffg.7 3 года назад
Yeah. Badass stool. Not ideal for detailing. I put my $20 HF one together in like 30 seconds, most of which was opening the box. I have less mechanical skills than Matt, with none of the awesome Milwaukee tools. Would need the tray, I use mine all the time. No pneumatic lift would take so much extra time, especially with a polisher. I can buy bigger wheels, and pay someone to install them, and still have enough money for a detailing cart, or 4.
@VyperIndustrial
@VyperIndustrial 3 года назад
You can put Forgelines and R888’s on a Hyundai, but it’s still going to be a Hyundai. You’ll have to keep installing the wheels over and over on each new HF chair that you buy when they eventually break.
@jeffg.7
@jeffg.7 3 года назад
@@VyperIndustrial I am not saying for a second, that the build quality on the HF chair, or any HF tool is as good as this one. A year in, and the stool I have is still working, because it is a stool. Unfortunately for the use I need, this is not going make my life easier. I am willing to pay $400 for something that gives me value, and does what I need it to do. Just because it is built like a tank doesn't mean it is going to fit everyone's needs. I love this channel for that reason. Matt is awesome at finding, and curating things that do just that. Plus as shown in this video, he is as critical as anyone on the tools he tests. He will be the first to tell you, that if it doesn't work for you, don't buy it. He doesn't give a crap. Comparing a stool to a car is also kind of a false equivalence.

For the people concerned about the base width and footprint, don’t be. It just looks big on video and in comparison to the crappy chairs that we are all used to. The base width is equivalent to my shoulder width so it feels compact and tight when you’re on it. For the most part, if you can fit, the chair can fit.
