I'm curious why none of the reviewers of this upcoming product said nothing about the wide angle camera support? On kickstarter there are a lots of comments about this topic. Main idea - you would see gimbal's motor in the frame. They are gonna release an update that would somehow fix that but only for the phones where camera is located at the corner. So all Samsung Galaxy S10 lineup, OnePlus, etc would see a motor. Which is a major issue. Looks like their main competitor doesn't have that problem.
That’s an interesting point! I currently own an iPhone 7 Plus, so I haven’t had the luxury of using a built-in wide angle lens just yet. I can’t speak for other reviewers but that’s why it didn’t cross my mind.
That's the main point that I wanna know too. Because I have a plan to buy a new iphone 11 pro max that has ultra wide angle lens. And I wanna know if that will be the same problem that would have happened?
Hi Alicia! Sooo when I made this video, the iPhone 11 hadn’t been announced yet so I didn’t know to address that issue. Zhiyun has come out since then and made a list of compatible phones with wide angles. Here it is: www.kickstarter.com/projects/zhiyun/zhiyun-smooth-q2-a-truly-pocket-size-advanced-mobile-gimbal/posts/2632482
@@garrettsammons Thank you for more informations. And I've read about it. For Iphone 11 Pro max it's highly compatible in most scenes. If moving Smooth-Q2 rapidly, the motor will be seen in certain scenes.
Glad you found it helpful! Honestly, I wouldn’t have done the review without it. If someone is seriously shooting with their phone, they more than likely are using one.
Making Movies I still think that the Original Osmo Mobile 1st gen is the best. I am able to use Lens and filters at the same time with a small counterweight.
Not sure you will be able to use a moment, as they dont recommend using this Gimbal with a phone case (per other RU-vid reviewers) and if not mistaken Moment needs a moment case... edit, found this "2. For most cases, if the thickness of your deivce (with a case) is less than 13.5mm, this would not be an issue."
Scott Brown moment now has a super thin case to fit mavic drone. It looks lighter and that’ll help with keeping the overall weight down. Just got the q2 today and that’ll be my next purchase
Thank you for the great video! Just one question, I am thinking about recording vertically for the sake of moto 360 mod that I have. The whole unit becomes around 230gr. How strong is the phone holder clamps in that case. I observe that it is spring forced instead of a bolted system. Is it secure to put a heavier phone and then shoot vertically?
I think it would really depend on the size of your phone. Everyone lists the weights of their products, so I would just do some math and see how it would all weight together.
I just received Gimbal Smooth Q2 from pre-order. However, it does not work properly. When I turn it on the 4 lights keep turn on and the Mobile phone does not stable. It should be horizontally itself, but it does not move. Please teach me how to solve this problem or how can I have changed. Thank you.
Hi Garrett! Best review so far of the Smooth Q2. I was wondering if you could tell me how to correctly balance my phone on the clip/holder before activating the gimbal. It seems my phone won't balance correctly on the gimbal. It is always falling on the left or right. Thanks.
Micro adjustment my friend. The tiniest of movements will make a HUGE difference in balancing. Balancing any gimbal takes a fair about of practice, but always know that fractions of millimeters make huge waves. Adjust little by little, and you’ll get the hang of it.
Hey man, Great review!! Quick question for you...do you know if there's an adapter to add a light? Some of the shooting we do is low light and evening shots.
Gimbals, especially on the mobile filmmaking level, make a HUGE difference in quality. If you’re looking to make films with your phone, I really recommend saving up to buy one; whether it’s this one or not.
@@williamn01 i think they have to reach the target after that the gimbal will be available to the public. Thats just what i think if they will not reach the target the gimbal will not be able to seel to the public.
I didn’t get a case with this one because it was a beta version. I know there’s a level you can back in on Kickstarter that has a case for sure. The iPhone XS Max is the same overall size as the one I tested. It’s definitely over the Max payload, but definitely works in two of the four shooting modes.
it must be nice when a company sends you a product to try out and maybe give it to you ...But most of us has to go out and buy it and if it does not work then the hassel of getting a refund back
Honestly, the motors in the Smooth Q2 are significantly stronger than the Osmo mobile. It’s not even close. For that, the battery life, and the metal build, I’d definitely give it to the Zhiyun.
@@garrettsammons how about the issues with q2? I heard it cannot hold some phones with cases? And the motors can be seen in the frame if you are using wide angle lenses
big issue this wobble (see ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-FzPoQidHu50.html)! i just bought the q2, updated firmware and still got this wobble - which may running the video you are just taking. it happens when the grip is up straight and the camera aligns with that (e.g. pointing straight forward with its camera(s)). Is this just me? Or anyone else having issues?
The bottom of it has a standard 1/4” thread that allows it to be mounted onto tripods or any other filmmaking gear. I think the kickstart also has an option for a table top tripod to be included.
The base of the handle has a standard 1/4” thread to mount the gimbal on anything you like. The Kickstarter has a pledge level that comes with a small tripod should you want it too.
Hi Al! Yes, the Smooth Q2 is brand new. There’s the Smooth line of gimbals, and the Q line of gimbles, but this one merges the best of both lines into a single product.
Making Movies looks like it’s only available on Kickstarter? Risky place to “buy” new products. Got my first gimbal there several years ago and got burned.
All throughout your video you never showed what you are seeing in your mobile phone, The way i look at the bracket it was attached to your mobile phone off centered, is it purposely to avoid blocking the lens? i think if you use a wide angle lens it can see the Gimbal frame. Maybe you should show your viewers what you are seeing in your mobile phone so we can really see if you are reviewing the product accurately.
Thanks! Definitely will on the next one. I didn’t have the beta version of their app that supported this little guy, so not a ton to show on screen. That said, yes, the mount is off centered on this gimbal, most likely due to size. It’s offset to balance correctly.
