Great work! We are always happy to help when reenactors contact us for information about our collections. Especially when they share the knowledge in the community like you do in this video.

Every LARP beginner should see this. Basic pesant costume can be done relatively quickly, on a budget, and it will look thousand times better than any overpriced cotton rug they buy on the internet. Great video!

I remember going to the museum so see the Bockstensmannen with my class when I was like 9 or 10. I really recommend anyone going to Sweden to swing by and visit the exhibition. Great video!

Great video & love the two stick method for turning a liripipe hood right-way-round after stitching! Cheers for this one Andre, this is an amazing resource for anyone doing historical LARP, Reenactment, or just anyone in need of authentic kit! Oh - and love that you're intern trolled your lack of H.A. shoes with the kit :D - good to know that's not just an Australian reenactment trope!

My friend, to save time, you don't need to go up and down for every stitch. look up "running stitch", it's too easy. the same goes for the backstitch, just poke in and come out further.
@TheShieldery
@TheShieldery 6 месяцев назад
I know the running stitch and have used it when I was in a hurry and had to finish a piece, the problem is that you can't make fine stiches and especially with thicker woolen fabrik, this becomes a problem. You also can't use it for the edges, which take like half of the time, if not more. The connection is in addition not that strong, I used the stitch on the tunic I wear in Israel and I had to redo the stitches in like 5 places caus it ripped. The stitch wasn't used (as faar as I know) in the bocksten mans outfit. I thought about including that in the video, but it allready had quite a lot of theoreticall elements...

@@TheShieldery i see. Personally i use it all the time but i usually work with linens which are inherently thinner, that's why i don't have that issue.

Thanks for the tutorial! Which weight should the linen have? Thank you in advance

the one I used had 235 g/m² and is washable at 40°C, I bought it at tolkostoffe. for underware this is very important XD !

@@TheShieldery thank you for the reply. Do you think 125g would be to light? :)

Hey Andre! Elden here from the Company of the Staple video. I'm a fan of your videos so I was so excited to see you liked my little video on how I interpret the bocksten hose tie. I have snapped a few laces over years but I find it lasts very well. I think I guessed the holes should be further apart than yours are, but as long as the tension is pulling around your leg, as well as up, I think it's totally ok.

I am very happy to hear that :) !!!! I also sent your video to Jesper from the museum and he liked it as well and wrote it makes a lot of sense ;) .

@@TheShieldery wah! I have a copy of the old book on the finds, in Swedish, which I translate with a phone app to make my reproductions. I would never dare to bother museum staff for my reenactment. I should learn from this to be more bold. ;)

your parting comments are important. I don’t really have answers (yet). A full woolen medieval or renaissance outfit is very warm. Fine for fall, spring or winter (in the northern hemisphere), but impossible for summer! My current plan is to work with linen or fustian (linen cotton blend). Anybody out there with solutions?
@TheShieldery
@TheShieldery 6 месяцев назад
I usually use a linen Tunic in the Summer. Kompletly wrong time for you though. I dont have a source for Material blends. Better Go with full linnen.

lol I bought the exact same shirt with the weird buttons as my first clothing piece before making my own outfit.

lovely work. Just a comment. Do not measure from a modern t-shirt… They fit because they stretch. The resulting tunic will be way too small. Instead, I measure from a formal cotton shirt. Make your tunic a bit bigger. Also the tunic cannot be smaller at the waist than the chest. You won’t be able to get your chest through your waist size (often).

@@TheShieldery I used a long sleeve shirt for my first measurements, and they came out perfect. Though I get most my clothes looser fit.

Wow that looks great. Steht dir gut! I might have missed it, but how did you draft the pattern for the actual tunic? Also what are the details on your wool fabric and thread and where did you get them?
@TheShieldery
@TheShieldery 4 месяца назад
Thanks! I got the Fabrik from tolkostoffe, but i think they run Out of woolen Fabrik. You can find the pattern in the links in the Videos description.

@@TheShieldery Thanks for the answer! I checked all of the links before commenting-- but still cant find it. Do you mean the museum website? Edit: It's not a huge deal or anything-- I was just looking for some drafting instructions. I'll just try to figure it our from the drawings and info.

Back in 2010 made some garb for some 1565 reenactment. It was all linen. When laying the fabric out we were told that it had to go a certain way or it would not fall correctly on your body. Have you came across this.? Also, any tips on getting out of the linen once you are all sweaty at the end of the day? I remember looking like I was doing some strange yoga getting the shirt off.

yes, the direktion is important for some pieces. In this example you got to take care that the hoses are in a 45° angel. XD; yes, I sometimes got that problem, too. mayby cut it more generous arround the arms and armpits?

Abgesehen von den fantastischen Arbeit die du gemacht hast, wäre es nicht einfacher das ganze mit eine Nähmaschine zu fertigen?
@TheShieldery
@TheShieldery 7 месяцев назад
Dankeschööön! Ja, wäre es; aber dafür müsste ich mir eine Nähmaschiene kaufen und am ende wäre es dadurch nur unauthentischer. Da investiere ich das Geld lieber in den guten Stoff hehe
