Hangar 9 Sundowner 50 Unboxing - Build & Maiden With ChuckT

After working at the Golden Era Races this year in Adelaide, i felt the "Need for Speed!" and fell in love with some of the big F1 racers. So a bit of research and i knew what i wanted. The Hangar 9 Sundowner 50 with an OS .55AX engine was on the list.
I thought to continue on the theme, i would do an Un-Boxing - Build & Maiden Flight video.
So sit back and watch the un-boxing then see bits of the build. The plane comes very well packed in the box. One thing that was below par with this model was the covering, it was poorly applied, looking like it had been tacked on to just go in the box. The good part is it goes on real nice and looks great with a little, ok a lot of work with your iron. The rest of the build was straight forward and just like most other H9 ARF builds.
The OS engine fired up first time and has run faultlessly for every flight i have had with this Engine.
As for the Maiden i was packing it a little as i had read how fast it was and how you needed plenty of room to land as it comes in fast. Well after takeoff and a little aileron and elevator trim it flew straight and level and in my books was a pussy cat to fly doing everything i asked of it, whether this was at slow speed or flat out. As for landing as your see in the video it came in beautifully and just sat on the ground with very little roll out at all. All up i would say this is a great medium sized plane that goes very fast or slow when you want it and also goes where you point it. I am loving this one, hope you enjoy the video, cheers!

Never go werong with an OS, ran many of them from .009 Pets to .60's, no biggies yet, and never had a problem. Lots of fun to be had with her Chuck.

You might consider learning how to 'pin' your hinges with some toothpick Chuck, just that little bt of protection for the fast ones, Ive seen too many ailerons come flying out after a bit of oscilation. One toothpick through each hinge one each side secure em bulletproof. Just a though obviously she flies great.

Been running a 10X6 APC prop and wanted more top end! So i had a chat with some IMAC guys and they suggested the 10X8 APC so next outing i will be giving this prop a go, this should get me round those imaginary pylons quicker lol!

You find you have to clean the plane with window cleaner after a day of flying. Fuel planes are a bit messy compared to electric planes.

Would a 12x4 give more stability with slower speeds? Did you need/use flaperons?

sorry still running mine stock how i first maiden and it goes great, if there is no wind it comes in fast and needs a good roll out area if there's a little wind it comes in nice and can be landed close by, never tried flaperons

hi! it is easy to put together the instructions are pretty clear. you can fit an electric motor to this plane to if thats what you want. Never owned the Habu 32 but it sure looks nice. The Habu 2 is a very nice entry level edf too
