When sanding the burn marks on the small edge, try to clamp all pieces together. Sanding this way it's easier to keep a right angle with the orbit sander!

I like the industrial look mixed with that gorgeous wood. Great combination! And using the fully threaded rods probably helps keep the S hangers from sliding constantly. Another great project!

Another great project as usual Steve.You could just use a piece of the stock against the stop block on your cross-cut sled to set the width of the lap joints.

Nice! The ingredients to that finish sound more like a finish for turned objects - like pens. The alcohol and wax would give a nice polished finish when applied with a lot of friction as in while turning on a lathe. But there's nothing wrong with using it on this project though.

Isn't walnut purty? So, do you think the threaded rod will rust at all in a kitchen? I have no idea. It's not stainless, but is it lacquered or coated in some way? Hmmm.

Do you mean haven, or heaven? Sorry, if i don't get it, but i'm no native speaker. Additional Comment: Nowadays your Videos start direct with your first working step / cut. I found the Introduction to the project "This time I'm going to build..." much more appealing. Nowadays you're in such a kind of a rush. Will watch your videos nevertheless.

If you want a more 'finished' look you can use cap nuts. It would require more precisely cut threaded rods however.

If you had chamfered the ends, then waited until the rack was assembled before chamfering the long sides, you wouldn't have the weird dips at the joints, the alternative would be to chamfer the insides of the joints ;)

I learned this about saw blades to determine if it is sharp or really needs sharpening. Carbide will cut when red hot however it is very brittle. Blades will gum up with sap and resins and will cut as a dull one will. if you can scratch your fingernail with the tip of a blade tooth your blade is not dull. So what to do? My sharpening company has to clean the saw blade before sharpening here is what you can do as a regular person. Buy oven cleaner from the grocery store and a 12 inch pizza pan and a cheap long handle vegetable cleaning brush. Place the blade in the pizza pan and spray on the oven cleaner and let sit for 10 minutes then scrub the blade with the brush. I suggest you wear dishwashing gloves. Flip the blade and clean the opposite side. Conpletely dry the blade and put back on the saw and I assure you it will cut like new!

Was there a specific reason you installed the threaded rods in that orientation? I'm just curious if you could have eliminated the cross-rod in the middle by rotating them 90 degrees and threading all the rods through the center board. Nice work regardless. I wish I had room in my kitchen to hang a pot rack!

I concur. Nice rack. I'm thinking about building one of these but... Bigger. Heavy duty. I have a bunch of cast iron skillets that need a different home. They live stacked up on the stove now and I keep shuffling them from side to side and putting them on the tables. My kitchen has 0 for storage a horrible design. I'm thinking a 4x8 size with 2x6 lumber. I may dress it up and get cedar or maybe oak if I it doesn't cost too much but you know, my kitchen walls are tongue and groove pine. Lag bolt it to the ceiling with some tasteful rusty tow chains or something. Are the rods on yours structural or simply a way to hang pots? I may use some 1/2" all thread. I think that I could slip that into some 1/2" rigid for sleeves.

Awesome project, think i might give this a shot. As far as hanging the rack, did you locate the hooks on ceiling joists/studs, or just hang it wherever you wanted? I know skillets aren't generally that heavy, just thinking the combined weight of a dozen how strong just the wallboard/drywall is to support that weight.

It is nice but for our kitchen takes up too much space, better to have pans aligned side by side for thinner profile. My other concern, the pans weigh about 60 lbs., not much support here from the ceiling.

I used to rent a house that was falling apart. but two things made the kitchen look like a million bucks, one was a hanging rack for the pots and pans, the other was an island with bar chairs stools on the other side. It's surprising how just a few small things can distract you from a house that the roof is leaking, the decks falling apart, and the landscaping is overgrown, and the house is infested with yellow jackets. But boy, that hanging pot rack looks cool. Thanks Steve for another good video !!! You rock !

Great project and the finish turned out just beautiful! I do wish to offer a bit of constructive criticism, you should have waited until after the final assembly to chamfer the long edges. The voids at the intersections look a little odd.

Get Hands Dirty I do agree with this. But the woodworking was still good. The threaded rod is suitable for the metal hangers right? To prevent them from moving along the rod? But for cases where it doesn't matter I prefer a smooth rod. You can make threads on the ends with a die.
@GetHandsDirty
@GetHandsDirty 9 лет назад
+SE45CX Yeah, the woodworking was actually pretty good! I love the way the walnut structure came out ;) I agree with you about the threaded rods. But I guess Steve used them because it was probably the quicker solution that he found and that anybody could make easily.
