Hania Rani was born in Poland and now divides her time between Warsaw and Berlin. Between these two cities, the pianist composes subtle and sensitive music reminiscent of Philip Glass or Erik Satie.
I only just opened youtube for some light music listening before bed. Was not expecting to watch a whole 40 min concert at 1 am. Stunning, breathtaking, touching music.
Very unique expression that one can’t help but experience in voyeuristic wonderment… Revelation 4:11 King James Version 11 Thou art worthy, O Lord, to receive glory and honour and power: for thou hast created all things, and for thy pleasure they are and were created.
Galatians 6:4-6 Easy-to-Read Version 4 Don’t compare yourself with others. Just look at your own work to see if you have done anything to be proud of. 5 You must each accept the responsibilities that are yours. Never Stop Doing Good 6 Whoever is being taught God’s word should share the good things they have with the one who is teaching them.
I am 77 and I hope that I will never be too old to make new musical acquaitances like this in my life. To me this music is comforting, ethereal, but still belonging to earth. We have to understand that all music, even this music, is with us on earth, as long as we live.
And after some listening to this I have come to love Hanias approch and skill, the sort of limitless feeling I find, and the swing in it. A good combination.
This woman is incredible. Not sure how I existed so long without discovering her, but my life is forever changed because of it. The way she surrenders herself to the music is truly a wonder to witness. Buka is a standout for me, but her performances are excellent from start to finish. I always come back to this one. I’ve watched it more times than I can count. I hope I get to see her perform live one day. 🤞🏽
Hi from an old man, 77. So happy young and old can meet in this music. I also have listened to this music more than 50 times, perhaps. Every time I listen, I find a new reason to exist in this world.
her music is like rain, water, river, sea, ocean, tears is so natural, familiar, touching to the core, reminding you of something very important to you, dear.
Keith Jarrett made my brain explode in the 70’s……..and Hania is blowing minds for this generation 👏👏👏👏👏standing ovation and surely must see her live 🍾🥂
They are both very good, but Keith and Hania are in somewhat different categories. And so a comparison between them is not adequate. Keith has for example never used the technique Hania uses, sampling and so on... With this said, I love them both.
Thank you Arte for posting this video back. When the video was removed from RU-vid on March 28, it felt like a great loss. Appreciate you figuring out a way to post it back for everyone's benefit. This is a masterpiece!
Imagine this being played in Bakhmut right now... I would hope it would impress those inhuman Ruzzians. Probably not, but maybe it will at least soothe the Ukrainian fighters...
@@HaleG9 Art or culture have never had anything to do with wars. Wars are fought because of money and/or power at the expense of the innocent. Art is a feeling of love, never a feeling of hate.
@@JoeKugelhagel whatever you say master of interpretation. Just one example: Look at 'Guernica' of Picasso for a while, think, and then write your comments in the future with more contemplation. Chances are that you are being taken seriously.
@@HaleG9 Then contemplate the words which you overlooked, "Wars are fought because of money and/or power at the expense of the innocent". As they deserve to be taken seriously. Don't you think? Furthermore, War artist/s whom I've worked with, had a higher standpoint on their craft. They actually expressed respect for, saw the grace of, and felt deeply the of loss of, witnessing a tragic social and environmental wasteland, in any soldier that was killed or maimed in war. Regardless of what side.
We have all listened to music our whole lives, then there is this. It’s moved me so deeply I’ve booked flights from NY state to Poland to see her this April. I don’t find the time to travel from my little farm north by car an hour to Buffalo NY to see a concert, so going through 3 cities for 24 hours to a country I’ve never been, is this performance. I loved her music through the pandemic and the Instagram stuff, and of course Cercle Invalids but this concentration of her talent takes it to - that level you didn’t know existed. Specifically TTK P2 at 35 minute mark. Well, I love her music and her personal essence that allows her to share herself to it.
Great! See you there. After winter concert in National Philharmonic ive instantly booked april. It will be great! Ive been in Progresja club on Kiasmos and is amazing space with Unique atmo
She created a world of her own, and we all have a place in it. Her influences are obvious (Y. Tiersen, J. Cage, E. Svensson, E. Satie, A. Pärt, B. Eno, P. Glass, L. Anderson), yet she has a very personal melodic "signature". A long journey into music is all we can wish for her, with confidence. Huge thanks to the technical staff, for this brillant filming/recording. A warm and detailed sound, to perfectly fit the piano, sharp but soft images, to capture Hania's emotions and strong presence. This is another exemple that technicians actually are artists working with machinery. Bravo !
That Tribute to Komeda 1 - 2, first it reminds me of The Doors I don't know why, second it is just PERFECT. Thank you Hania, your talent gives me chicken skin and grow my emotional intelligence bigger.
I had never heard of her until last week. This is the beauty of this digital world where unsignificant things can be overexposed while we are still able to find gems like that. I know she is not an underground artist because on her millions views but her music is not for everybody. Some people would think it's sad. Most people in fact. But it's not. Her music is quite simple but it wears something strong. Glass is absolutely amazing. These simple arpegios backed by some deep analog synths and organic textures ending up with some heaven chords is something that can be listened for ever and ever.
Thank you Green, you obviously have been gifted with a gift to interpret a composition and gift it back to us with your kind comments. Thank you very much. I love Hania’s music as well. I liken it to a Divine experience.
Peace
OMG!!! You are such a beautiful woman, such a beautiful human being!! Until you begin playing the piano, then you are a Goddess, you are the mother of Lilith, your music is an elixir that brings paradise to Earth. Your music cures the zombies and the lost souls of the world! I'm almost sixty, and I just want to learn to play the piano like you, you are an inspiration. Thank you for your music, Hania Rani.
I think I've already left 3 comments about how perfect this is. I use this for grounding music when things get crazy, or when I really need to be productive. Just. So. Good.
I have certainly heard this concert about 100 times. I always discover something new. But one thing remains constant: I am carried away, deeply touched, Hania brings out something that is driven by an incredible power and energy. I can not help but surrender to the current of this music, to be carried away. Into new spheres. A profound thank you to you, Hania. You are such an incredible artist.
@@erichaberman3812 That's amazing. Yes I saw it and I could go to her concert in Berlin/Germany in November if possible. That would be nice if that could work out. And thanks for the hint to look at her tour dates with link. Will you check out and enjoy one of her concerts? It must be an incredible experience to see that live as well.
@@erichaberman3812 Eric, that's great. Please report how you felt about it and what the atmosphere was like. I am already very excited. In 3 weeks, that's already soon. Enjoy it!
Agreed. This video restored my faith in humanity. This time listening, I feel empowered to take on tasks I normally avoid. It's the closest thing to perfection I have ever encountered.
“Buka” is endlessly beautiful. I could listen to it all day. The precision of the ostinato in the right hand and the power of the deep chords on the left. Just stunning.
I chose the songs Eden and Sun for my grandfather's funeral a few weeks ago, and now it's harder to listen to her album Esja because of that, but I still find so much comfort and peace in all of her other pieces, especially lives. Thank you Hania
@@MM-111 I was referring to the zombie audience. One young man smiled (her boyfriend, brother?) This performance should have flooded the space smiles and tears.
Merci Hania !
Literally just found this woman. She's great. Looks like Nils Frahm there in the audience appreciating. I'm guessing he's definitely one of her influences along with Philip Glass.
I have viewed this concert several times. There are always new things to discover in the music as you become familiar with it. I believe the smiling man is possibly her father. Watch that part again and see the resemblance [the smile, the eyes, the way they both Shine]. I believe the older man and woman to Hania's left [as she plays the upright] are possibly her Grand parents. I do not know this ~ but it feels true.
I've just found my new favourite artist... what a masterpiece, I cant stop listening ...it's on day and night, watch the Cercle recital, it will blow your mind!
As I understand, this is also a solidarity consert for Ukraine, but we can do so little, supporting in spirit doesn´t help anyone. At least it is solidarity manifestation.
Mesmerizing... All of it... I am moved by 'Leaving'... and I love the Tribute to Komeda, all three parts catch wonderfully the musical time Komeda played in. Also, it's fantastic how she plays on the keyboards and then just with knobs on the synthesisers... Reminds me a bit of Jean Michele Jarre... Hania is able to go from one mood to another, bring the music up and down, forward and back again. I come to this record time and time again, listening to every detail and every sound, appreciating Hania's composition and choice of notes only more and more. And watching it, I have a growing visual pleasure with the musical, just watching Hania's hands flying above these keyboards. Technique is a non-issue for her. These very fast notes, are they 32s/64th.... Her right hand is amazing. And her left hand glancing the keys or going up and down drawing the notes from piano. All kinds of beauty at the same time, and true mastery all over.
mmmmkay. i dont mean to be offensive, i was just irritated and suspected ignorance behind the comment, but you obviously have no experience with synthesizers yourself. Propably the majority of synthesizers has no keys. Often a synth is hooked up with a sequencer and the artist focus solemnly on the modulation. In some way the knobs and faders are the keys of a synthesizer and the keys are just triggers.
@@fuzzer6907 Why ? Hania is an extraordinarily creative artist, who reveals things pianos had inside them that nobody had seen before. We wouldn't be here if we didn't all feel like that. However concerning "playing with the synth settings", that's kind of Synth 101. Buy any analog synth, and you'll find yourself doing that from the get go. So, that's a bit of interesting education @MrDschiesus simply offered to broaden the OP's understanding of what's going on here. Isn't learning the opposite of boring ?
What a gem! A special thanks goes to Arte and their sound engineers of the recording -- Absolutely stunning, how they took care of the delicate sound of the grand piano, e.g. at Buka! Every strike of the piano key of this outstanding performance was flawlessly captured for us....
@@ArtTheArtP I agree. Everything here sounds better than the album versions. She is unfortunately riding the wave of composers who are more interested in recording hammer noise, pedal noise and all the other creaking and cracking noises of the piano, instead of recording the actual music. Here, there's thankfully none of that noise, thus a better listening experience.
@@nidnoy81 First of all I agree on Benedict Bergweiles comment. Then I agree on your comment. I have heard some uptaking with Hania with some peculiar noices, creaking and cracking as you describe them. If this is something that shall be there, I humble ask the procuder to take them away, they disturb my experience of this music. But luckily, as you say, this consert has no such creaking and cracking. Just a wonderful sound. And a wonderful pianist.
Thank you ❤️
Buka feels like the piece that will be played in the credits at the end of planet earth, while there are all these magnficent pictures of extinct species and timelapses of landscapes across the seasons in the background. To me it is the perfect inseperable combination of joy and beauty on the one hand and tragedy and nostalgia on the other.
Buka at 14:39 is a such an emotive masterpiece, often brings me to tears. Hania takes us on epic journey of sound and deep emotion . Love how the camera catches some of the audience's faces, some with a gentle smile, some sad.
Never have I seen such a passion for playing the piano. Hania, your music is magical , ethereal, flowing like a river towards eternity... in love with your soul ...
And that's how it works! It's pure passion. Some time ago her big dream was to take part in big piano contests and she tried hard to prepare for them. Once she was asked to play some improvised music of her own for a project. She then realised that this was what she needed and had been looking for all her life. She just went for it and today we can hear what she's already achieved. Some people may call it "pure passion" ;) Greetings from Poland, mate!
Moving, touching, profound, sensitive, tender, poetic and magical. Thank you Hania for your gift to the world in these confused times. For me it is a concert of the century. I have been listening to it every day for almost a year now and it has lost none of its fascination. On the contrary, Hania's music is becoming more and more multifaceted and meaningful. It cannot be described in words. I bow in humility to this beautiful masterpiece.
Oglądam i słucham kolejny raz i nic z mojego pierwszego zachwytu nie znika, przeciwnie coraz bardziej narasta☺️ Coś cudownego! I kompozycje i wykonanie, budowanie napięcia, przeżywanie muzyki.
I heard Hania for the first time through the Spotify recommendation algorithm (Leaving) and was instantly shockingly in love. That day I listened to her music late into the night until my eyes fell shut from tiredness. Finding an artist who immediately overwhelms you, who hits you right in the soul and moves you to goosebumps and tears (of joy) is a truly rare and outstanding experience. Now I've seen her live 10 times and she's already on tour again. I've been a music lover since I was a child and listen to a lot of amazing bands and musicians in many different styles. But on an emotional level, nobody manages to move me as much as Hania. And @arteconcert has already brought this musical jewel into our living rooms twice at the highest level of sound quality, so I always want to hear it again and again. :)
