Another informal chat with Hank is being edited and prepared and I hope to post it to my RU-vid page in around a week. Thanks, Mike

Good one Mike. Hey ask Hank - the one the only living legend guitarist icon, if there'll be a 60 years reunion album of studio cuts with Cliff Richard set for 2018 (kinda along the lines of their 50tha anniversary REUNITED album). I can just envisage a really good reworking of 'Throw Down the Line' song !

The 2004/05 tour UK & Europe possibly was headed to Asia, Australia/NZ but they didn't wanted to. I saw them in 85, 87 & 89 in NZ. Next tour was with CR in 2009/10 a big world tour. The break up occurred 1990. No final tour internal problems. A great band. I doubt they will tour again. We have the albums and DVD's to remember them by. Hanks Heartbeat is fantastic as is the one b4 that Into the light. 92 & 94 releases.

+Mike Perth I agree with what Leonard Michalon has said, that the picture is NOT of the Shads recording Apache, as it shows Brian Bennett on drums. It also shows Bruce on a Strat and again he used an acoustic on the recording. Though Cliff was on the recording of Apache he never played acoustic guitar on it. Looking at the photo this was a recording session probably late 1961 early 1962 as Jet is still with the Shadows. Thanks for posting the interview.

+Geoff T Thanks Geoff. I was given the photo with the caption and accepted it as such. I had meant to follow this up but I forgot as I've been very busy broadcasting and organising music gigs. However, I will try and find out when the photo was taken by asking Hank if he can recall it at all. Will do my best. Will leave the caption as it stands so as not to have to reload the page again. thanks for your post Geoff.

+Mike Perth Further to the above, here is the latest for you (24 Feb 16): "There was a lot of discussion about it on the Shadows chat sites some time ago and the conclusion was that it probably was from the recording session of Apache/Quatermassters Stores. Someone did a digital enhancement of the photo of the drummer and it is in fact Tony, not a young Brian. Also, Jet is using a Leak amplifier and studio monitor, as he did for those very early sessions and certainly long before Brian replaced Tony. Finally, who is on what instrument is not very relevant since Norrie Paramor is in the studio in the photo (not the control room) and so recording was certainly not taking place at the time." I don't think I'll get a better source!

+Mike Perth. Mike thanks for your update, I must admit I'm not convinced, photos do strange things!However studying the photo again there a couple of things that do predate Brian joining the Shadows, firstly you'll note they're using VOX AC15 amps (with blue/cream casings?), they had moved on to the AC30's by the time Brian had joined and lastly Jet's hair is still blond - this is a big give away, because he had dyed it dark brown/black by the time Brain became a Shadow.So I think we can safely say that this photo shows Tony on drums and is an early recording session.

+Geoff T Thanks Geoff. Yes, I agree. I think that's about all we can really say. I must admit that if someone showed me a photo of me doing something in the very early 60s and asked me what I was doing then, I'd also be stuck! Especially when the guys may not even have been aware that a photo had been taken. Although I do agree that it 'may not' have been the recording of 'Apache', the trouble of taking the video down, re-editing it and resubmitting it is just too much hassle for me. I have another video uploading as I write this, and this is taking over six hours. I will try and be more 'fussy' in the future! Thanks for the messages, Mike

I don't think The Shadows will tour again, but it would be nice if they recorded something together. They wouldn't have to get together for that, if it was too inconvenient. When they recorded the Reunited CD, they were all over the world. 😁

I agree. There are lots of reasons why they would not. Individually, they all continue to record and release music on CD though.

the picture who's supposed to be the recording session of apache is also wrong. If you look well it's Brian Bennett on drums not Tony Meehan.

Billy, it is not Brian, it IS Tony - and actually they were recording - or about to record - Quartermasster's Stores (the b-side), not Apache - you can see Bruce is playing an electric guitar, not an acoustic (and it has Cliff adding a bit of second rhythm guitar to fatten it up, which you can hear on the original recording if you listen to it very, very closely).
@ronwilken5219

@@ipongrac in another interview Hank tells the story that Quartermasters Store was supposed to be the A side with Apache as the B side but Norry Paramour couldn't decide so he took it back to his daughters and they said that Apache had to be the A side. It knocked Cliff off #1 in UK. Fabulous music from my teenage years. Play it at any and every opportunity. Much better than the horse dung product of today's wannabees. God help us.

I spotted the squire as well. The signature on it was probably mass produced as a signature model.
