Hello friends, welcome to the channel!
In this episode I am taking you to Hanle which is India's only Dark Sky Reserve where you can observe the night sky through telescope as there is very little air or light pollution. I also explore the Indian Astronomical Observatory where the Himalayan Chandra Telescope is located. Along with these I visit the old Hanle Monastery. On the way to Hanle from Umling La, I cross Photi La, sixth highest motorable pass in the world at 18124 feet. The road to the top of the pass is steep and winding, but the views from the top are absolutely breathtaking. The pass is surrounded by snow-capped peaks, glaciers and high altitude lakes. The drive to the pass is also an adventure in itself, with challenging terrain and unpredictable weather conditions.

Thank you so much for your appreciation. For us plain dwellers, our conception of mountains is very different from what we see in Ladakh. Its landscape and scenery feel totally out of this world when one goes there. I had a jaw dropping reaction when I first saw this beauty. 😊

Is photi la pass road that good as u showed? Most of Channels show its bad road along with steep
@Atul_Roy
@Atul_Roy Год назад
There is no doubt that it is very steep. Probably the most steep access road to a pass that I have been. But the condition was top notch when I had visited in September last year. Plus BRO was working tirelessly to further improve and make it black top.

How did u manage petrol refilling since u travelled from Leh - Hanle- Umling La - Tso Moriri. I believe there is no petrol pump except for Karu. Did u carry extra fuel ? If yes, then how much. Pls advise. Thank u ☺️
@Atul_Roy
@Atul_Roy Год назад
So, the only route that doesn't have a petrol pump is Karu - Nyoma - Hanle - Tsomoriri route. Since I knew this, I had already got my tank full at Karu before leaving for Hanle. Also, I took a Jerry Can of 5 litres capacity and took spare fuel from Karu. Since my bike is RE Thunderbird, it has a 19 litre fuel tank (giving me around 570 Km range, considering a mileage of 30kmpl). So I had around 700 Km range when leaving Karu. Even then just to be safe, I took around 10 litre fuel in black at Hanle (there is a shop in the village) because I was heading straight to Tso Moriri and then to Leh Manali highway without coming back to Leh. In the end this much fuel was sufficient for me to reach Keylong on Leh Manali Highway where I got my next refueling done. Hope that helps! 🙌🏻

Bhai in which month you travelled ? I am planning to go in mid September, is that good time to go with bike ?
@Atul_Roy
@Atul_Roy Год назад
Bhai I travelled in the last week of September and first week of October. In my opinion mid September to mid October is the best time to travel Ladakh. As it is off season you will encounter less crowds and it is more fun in my opinion. Everything is cheaper too. But after mid October it becomes a bit dicey as the high passes start getting snowfall and passes like Bara Lacha La may become closed intermittently. Hope that helps! 🙌🏻

@@Atul_Roy And also can you make one video on what all you took with you for bike safety like puncture kit and all ? And can i take my duke 200 to ladakh or should rent out bike ?
@Atul_Roy
@Atul_Roy Год назад
I came via Manali. In my opinion this is the best route. If you go from Manali to Ladakh, you ascend too quickly and that may result in AMS. But going Via Srinagar avoids that, not to mention the beautiful landscape you get to see on this circuit route.
@Atul_Roy
@Atul_Roy Год назад
Will try to make that video. I had planned several such videos but recently got occupied with other commitments. As far as choice of bike is concerned, you can take your Duke without any issues. On this route you will even see people taking their scooties and cycles, so I don't see an issue why you can't take your Duke. Just keep it in a top notch condition with a comprehensive service before you leave and you should be good to go. ❤️🙌🏻
