She’s a great singer and artist, but relax, some things are culture specific. Soul music and it’s style of singing is and always will be black, pioneered and owned by black people. It’s in the DNA. Notice how you thought she was black because you heard how she sang. She can just sing soul music. If she was singing Samba or Latin Pop or Bossa Nova well, you’d think she was Hispanic, but wouldn’t say she has so much Spanish in her or so much Latin pop in her when you discover she’s not. You’d say she can just sing that genre of music well. Having soul and singing soul are much different things.
She's excellent yes, but why does she have to compete with Adele? That's like saying that because another child is better at sport or academics than your kids that - that kid is better than yours! One have their place and god given talents and their equal place in the world.
Unfortunately I'm late to the party but when it comes to music it's better late than never. Her vocals are wonderful if I didn't know this I'd swear this being performed at a 1950's Harlem jazz club. You don't hear a peep out of the audience
I’m late as well! I’ve never sang nor memorized any song in my life! Just never interested me. However, this song I sing regularly as I just heard it about the same time as you! She is amazing!
It is. It's only this lady's voice at the very beginning of the song. Kim Burrell, a black gospel artist, is the voice that you hear singing throughout the rest of the song.
@ Yes, he sampled Hannah, but Kim Burrell is most definitely singing on the voiceovers, whether it is listed, or not. I saw her in an interview talking about it. And, Jay-Z has said it as well. So, no disappointment here. I’m sure a quick Google search will find that info for you. We all know that Hannah Williams is a white woman, and that she has a great voice, and that this is a great song. That’s obviously why Jay-Z chose to sample it, at the beginning, and end of his song. But, Kim Burrell is singing throughout the song. Have a nice day.
Yes. If I recall correctly, when proposing songs to use as samples for the album, the producer (no ID) proposed this song as a sample to essentially force jay-z to confront the topic of his unfaithfulness
Wally Alonzo Believe me, she got the best exposure she'll ever get. Jay Z sampled this song in his song 4:44, now nearly all Jay Z fans know about her. And Jay Z is a giant in the music industry, the guy has 36 grammys. I'm glad I found out who she is, I love her voice.
Robbed on the Voice tonight I switched off didn't even find out who won as clearly there was only 1 winner!! Tom said it right when he said how do I follow your amazing vocals. X
