right before they find the other girl, hannibal says "maybe i can help good Will see his face" and that's exactly what he did. he basically just made a very disturbing spot the difference game for will to help him better understand the actual serial killer. and as for the mongoose thing, i think it's specifically a reference to rikki tiki tavi by rudyard kipling, which is about a mongoose that protects a family from cobras. so imo, he's saying he wants will on his side to protect him from the fbi, but will doesn't know that currently. also im sure someone's mentioned this already, but bryan fuller, the showrunner, was heavily inspired by iwtv, so if will and hannibal's dynamic feels familiar, thats why 😂

I was also a bit confused after watching the first episode, but just keep watching! It is a complicated show, but I like that it makes you also question things at the same time as Will trying to figure what tf is going on. It's also visually such a beautiful show, which is weird to say because of the subject, but it fits so well with Hannibal being this charismatic yet dangerous character.

Oh Hannibal is a fucking treat! Nobody spoil ANYTHING.

I love watching your stuff because in only the first like 20 min you understood what the writers are going to focus on for the rest of the season. Even thought ive watched hannibal and iwtv so many time you always say something that has me thinking for hours that i didn't see the first time ❤❤

I totally forgot that the music/ambience/sound design...whatever that's called is soooo ominous it becomes its own character in the show. Like it just creates this weight the whole time you're watching. I wonder if they won anything for that. It's unsettling af.

Hope you're buckled in tight for this wild ride, FT! But I KNEW you'd enjoy this! The complexity, drama, verbal sparring and mind games (as well as the eerily memorable aesthetic) make Hannibal a much loved show by those of us who appreciate its darkly layered themes - and still hope for its return one day!! I think it's unique in a lot of ways, and both Hugh (Will) and Mads (Hannibal) have great chemistry on screen and have been great friends for a number of years, and they will have you captivated from beginning to end! As someone who hates spoilers myself, I don't want to clarify anything for you yet, just in case - I'd rather see you do what you do best (observe, listen and analyse the finer details!) and wait to see if certain things slot into place for you in the next episode! But you are correct - it's one hell of an intro to this meeting of minds (including Jack)! Great reaction, as always!

Hannibal is fascinated by what Will can do, his imagination, the way he can “see”, that’s why he “copycat” them, to watch the way Will’s imagination works

Will is the mongoose hidden beneath the house that hunts and kills the snakes that slither by it. A decent interpretation would be that Will is (unknowingly) the Mongoose that waits in the hidden dark, ready to pounce on any snakes slithering around nearby, hunting/catching/killing the "evil people" that are the Snakes. Hannibal can see early on what Will could become or what he truly is.

Your instant appreciation for Will as a character is so refreshing to see.

You're gonna love this one, I think; it's uniquely weird for a crime show. And yes, they don't waste time in showing you that Will is super fucked up, he's an excellent character.

This is my favourite show of all time! This journey about to be wild!

I only just watched this show this summer and I was immediately hooked in the first episode! It's now one of my favs. I ended up buying the Hannibal cookbook. The relationship between Will and Hannibal is so intriguing, complex, and entertaining. It's not a spoiler, Hannibal only killed the girl in the field. I understand the confusion trust me. This show will only get crazier hope you enjoy

Mads' wardrobe in this show is insane. They purposefully put him in strange prints, patterns, and colors to make Hannibal seem even more odd than he already does. It's crazy how well he wears it all.

After the beginning of my first watch (seen the series 5 times) I was concerned that a lot of the intellectual writing was gonna go over my head cuz i’m a lil slow ngl. BUT as I continued watching I love the way the writing brings you along in the storytelling in a way that you could understand the parallels, thought process of characters, and intricacies of each case as well as the main overarching “case.” And then after I watched it again and again I caught more things that I missed on the first watch and it’s just a masterpiece. Love this show BAD

As an autistic person, I love Will so much! He's genuinely one of the best autistic characters I've ever seen, from not making eye contact to hyper-empathy that is debilitating. I think the writers did an amazing job at giving an autistic character depth, even though the creator and show kind of backpedals on whether he's autistic or not later in the show (which I find upsetting since the representation was so important in 2013 and even now.) Either way, many autistic people love and relate to Will very deeply, me being one of them. Love the reaction and can't wait for you to watch more of the show.

This is a great series for Taco. He's an insightful reactor, one of the best. I love the deep analysis, and there is so many layers to this show. This is going to be a lot of fun to watch him watch

23:18 it sounds like the title of a kids' book but it's an absolute power play--The Snake with the Pet Mongoose. But I think Hannibal wants a pet/friend. Someone who understands him. Even if that someone is a mongoose. I watched the premiere live when it aired on NBC. Could not believe NBC could get away with some of the things you are due to see(if you haven't already by the time you read this). The writing, pacing, dialogue was poetry and Hannibal wears the crispiest suits known to both man and god. The actor playing Will Graham, his father is a famous/celebrated philosopher and moralist so this role with all the moralizing that goes into his job...*chef's kiss* Was already a huge fan of Mads Mikkelsen and Special Agent Morpheus soooo... I think anyone who's seen The Matrix has made a small suburb worth of red pill/blue pill jokes when he recruits Will😂😂😂I know I did Hannibal's one of a kind and one of my all time fave shows. Extra next level grateful to find this waiting in my feed, dude. 🙏🏾 30:37 uhmm...without spoiling it, as best I can anyway, there's a meme of a quote from Alfred the butler in The Dark Night, about watching the world burn? I believe, anyways. Sometimes you need a inverted version of the thing you're looking at to see the proper clues or puzzle pieces. So as simple as I can yes, this episode feature TWO cannibals. There's the concept that psychopaths are addicted to causing chaos just for the hit of dopamine it brings; again, the power play and the manipulation. What happens if I push this button as a whole entire serial killer. The rest, well...keep watching😉

The 'you won't like if I'm psychoanalysed' is an in joke. Edward Norton played Will Graham in at least one of the films and was also the Hulk. Spooky series. There is one series about ghost detectives it's called 'Dead Boy Detectives.'

Hannibal may be my favourite tv show because of the way it portrays Will and Hannibal, but it also is how I figured out I'm on the spectrum, and I have to agree with will eyes are distracting.

I think all your questions should be answered in some form or another in the show. It's been a minute since I rewatched this show, maybe a year or two. This show does a good job of letting you draw your own conclusions and figure things out as the characters do, so I don't think they ever come out and say anything outright but the puzzle kinda comes together as the show goes on. That's the least spoilery way I can think to say it lol

it took me a couple of views to figure out everything that's going on in the series, and still every single time i rewatch it i find something new whether on the dialogue, the beautiful set ups and photography .. this one is a good one

I don’t think it’s a spoiler to explain, though I’m assuming your patrons have already told you, but Hobbs was always the serial killer in Minnesota (the Shrike) that they were looking for. Hannibal only killed the girl in the field. As he told Jack, he wanted to “help good Will see his face”. Will needed such a different kill as he said, ‘see the negative to see the positive so he could figure out Hobbs’ profile better. I loved how enthusiastic you were about this episode! It is one hell of a pilot and throws you straight into the deep end. Don’t stop with the Matrix jokes! Haha

Hannibal just imitated the MO of the other killer to test Will and his skill (the scene was "gift-wrapped"), he was intrigued after their first meeting. That's why he asked so many questions during the breakfast scene. So glad you are doing this show, thanks as always for the great content ^^

Hannibal said, that he will help Will to find the killer. And "BOOM" there is the dead girl at the field. I think, this was Hannibals "help". And it really helps Will. And don't forget, Hannibal likes to manipulate people and situations. I believe, he calls the killer to make Will kill a human. He is fascinated by Will. Thank you soooo much for this reaction. This show is phantastic. And it gets better and better. Enjoy!
