I can not WAIT for more of this. Mads Mikkelsen's turn as Dr. Lecter goes down as _legendary_ in my book. Anthony Hopkins is the iconic Lector for a lot of people, and his performance(s) are fantastic, but Mikkelsen performance of the predator in his prime, in his element, unshackled, is INSANELY Likable and terrifying.
This show is a masterclass in story telling and cinematography. I’m glad your reviewing it. Hannibal being played as Lucifer on earth was brilliant and terrifying and beautiful.
Mads is exceptional with his facial acting. If he ends up taking over for Depp as Grindelwald I may reconsider my lack of desire to see Fantastic Beasts. For free of course. Seperately. You look sharp af in the black good sir.
@@vanyadolly glad it wasn't just me. The moment that happened I was almost immediately done with the series. I went into "Crimes..." with an open mind and sadly Depp didn't win me over. Poor writing overall didn't help.
I love this show! I love how it takes more of a psychological turn on the Hannibal franchise and Mads Mikkelsen is amazing as Hannibal. So glad you're covering this!
I loved this series so much. Seriously considering getting the "clock" as a tattoo that Will draws thinking it's an actual clock during his session with Hannibal. It's also a great metaphor for life in quarantine lol
@@deusdeaconReviews that you’re thinking that far ahead in this retrospective is only furthering how happy I am to be on your patreon to help support this!!
@@deusdeaconReviews I lost track of you years ago (probably in a subscriber purge) and decided to try and find your channel again after talking to a friend about the show. this is new for me so just let me be happy XD /j
As far as asking about the cat goes; it's been a hot second since I read Silence of the Lambs, but I think Catherine had a cat, as well? I can't remember if it was the cat crying over having not gotten dinner, or the cat having been fed, but in some regard, they used the cat as a clue in that book, as well, didn't they?
@@deusdeaconReviews I think it was likely more as you said in the video, a reference to Red Dragon, but I do find it interesting how often pets are used in these books as clues.
Giving me Jack Crawford vibes with the suit man, looks great. Damn your reviews usually make me think "I'm glad he watched it, not me". This has the opposite effect. Makes me glad I watched Hannibal and makes me want to start again.
I recently was suggested some of your videos the other day while working. I clicked right away on your House on Haunted Hill review and got sucked in from there. I have enjoyed your opinion on so many of the movies you've reviewed and wanted to leave a comment to say that I love your work! Can't wait for more!
Happy to see you again, I've been watching your videos last year when I was doing my afternoon and early morning shifts in the office, sitting there alone... Comf times
I enjoyed the show when it was aired, and wished that it lasted longer. Like a delicious meal that you don't want to finish cleaning off your plate and always wanting seconds. I do hope that Deusdaecon Reviews will go into detail about how the show had an actual personal professional chef help out not only on the cooking details of the show but also to how the titles of each episode are references to the names of dishes, desserts, and other things off of the culinary menu.
I own the Hannibal cookbook and have been following the food stylist Janice poon long befor even the book was a thing so of course ill be talking about the wonderful work did not just the food but the symbolism the food became so famous for.
"fleshing out the characters".. Yumm Yum good. Odly, I think David Tennant will make a good Will. To this day, I still cannot believe this was network TV and lasted more than 1 season.
Thats why they threw in the nuggets from Red Dragon-they never dreamed of getting to the third season. David Tennant seems an odd choice now given his smaller stature-Will and Hannibal at eye level?!?!?-but his turn on Jessica Jones left me terrified for months. Mads is amazing tho so I wouldn’t want it any other way.
Your professionalism and skill improvements between 2012 to now is invigorating. You narrate this video so well, I had to pause a couple times because the detail creeps me out. It’s probably because it’s Thanksgiving and food metaphors are not the best inputs right now! Congrats on the dedication and skill.
@@deusdeaconReviewswe’ve had a differences of opinions when it had came to religious topics in the past but there’s no denying your attention to detail and research. Excellent Content
I've been so looking forward to these reviews ever since i saw your preview . I really enjoy your content. In depth while also being informative and enjoyable. I love this show. Its beautiful which is no mean feat considering the subject matter.
So hype! Happy that I was able to finally donate to your patreon this year after watching your videos for so long. Absolutely love your videos and just how much effort and research you put into all of them. You were the one who really got me into Lovecraft (it always felt like such a barrier to get into and but you helped me see how worth it as well as jumping off points of it) and helped me find and watch so many fantastic movies I never would have before. Keep up the good work and I cannot wait to see all the fantastic videos you'll keep on making in the future! Side note, you are looking perfectly spiffy in today's video :)
Excellent to finally see this come to fruition! Excellent work, excited to see it all unravel. I will say, though, that Katz, Price and Zeller are in Red Dragon, but in fairly small roles. Like I think they each only show up a handful of times when any of the forensic work needs to be done.
I remember a few years ago I moved to a new state. I was looking for a copy of red dragon so my sister and I went to a book store a town over. It was a tiny building filled with shelves of books and barely any room to walk. After looking around for a while I found a paperback of red dragon. I was a little disappointed, since I wanted a hardback, so I kept looking. Sure enough, a few minutes later, I found a first edition, with the book jacket intact and everything. To this day it’s still one of my most prized possessions.
I couldn’t watch this show, aspects trigger my cPTSD in very unpleasant ways, but this sort of review is such a great way for me to experience the story with much less stress. Thank you.
I love this. I've been watching your channel for quite some time and you've led me to some of the strangest movies I've ever seen and if you could do more series like this episode by episode would be amazing all it makes me think is how much more content you'll be able to produce if this works out and im so fuckin happy
@@deusdeaconReviews youre honestly the first youtuber to ever reply to me so thanks for that thats amazing and hell yea man thats all you needed to say! And I cant wait to see more of these ive honestly been debating watching this show and you've definitely convinced me
For me mads mikkelsens version of hannibal is my favourite i watched the show before watching the movies anthony Hopkins did still do brilliantly as the character
It's a real shame that copyright issues kept this show from progressing forward with it's own version of events. This is also why we are getting a "Clarice" show that (as far as i understand) will have no hannibal in it.
Overall great analysis, especially on Mads. But is he threatening Will? You have to reconsider over the time. What mongoose means? You can find it in season 3.
I fucking loved this show and was disappointed when it ended. Hugh Dancy is such an underrated actor, and well Mads Mikkelsen imo was a better Hannibal Lecter than Anthony Hopkins.
The way mads Michelson eats makes me hungry even though my brain says in terms of the show it's people , but seriously they make it seem like the best food imaginable which is weird to me as I don't care for fancy looking foods if it's good that's all I care for. I.e. greasy burger van after a night of drinking or a sausage and fried egg with mushrooms sandwich at the local sarnie shop.
Tbf the show does not explicitly states that it is in fact autism spectrum. Will says what he has is closer to autism than psychopathy but he doesn't say it actually is autism. It's said later I think it's a sort of empathy disorder, but considering Will is reluctant to speak with any psychiatrist it's sort of implied that he hasn't had an official diagnosis.
The show doesn’t but Bryan fuller does in the audio commentary, he specifically says it was an aspect of wills character he wanted to delve into but after a while chose to move away from it.
@Deusdaecon Reviews when I first saw this episode I tried to recreate the scene where Hannibal tells Jacob Hobbs that they know by dialing 911 on a fax machine that my parents had and a police officer came to my house and I thought I was going to be in trouble he said that I wasn't in trouble but I needed to tell my mother what I did and eventually I did 365 days later don't ask me why I dialed 911 I was just being stupid
I wonder if the phazing out of the autism and focus on wills deductions are due to his interaction with lector? Like a sign of the doctors influence on him?
@@deusdeaconReviews I'm pretty sure it is. Will desperately needs someone, who can understand him (as does Hannibal) and that "repairs" him, until the point, it almost breaks him (or does it?)
yes indeed thats all true, but fuller has gone on the record to say the specific autism angle was deliberately phased out, everything else you said i agree with.
The portrayal of autism in this first episode is what made it unwatchable for me and thus didnt carry on with the series even though id only ever heard good things about it. Maybe its because ive been surrounded by people on the spectrum my whole life but it just came off as a gross caricature. Like they were trying super hard to hit all the well known symptoms. Still gonna watch every second of your retrospective though!
"I apologise for my pronunciation." Sure! When you do a better job of actually ATTEMPTING to say the full name rather than just flash it up on the screen with 10% effort like 90% of all other RU-vidrs. HOW DARE YOU TAKE PRIDE IN YOUR WORK! Don't you realise it makes it all that much harder to find fault with it? Tsk,... Can you believe this guy? Actually taking pride and doing a good job and actually being good and caring about what his audience thinks! The audacity!
