The most genius move Hannibal made was telling his guys NOT to touch the villas and properties of the Roman senators a upper government. This made the public think they had a deal worked out between them. So they rioted forcing Rome to prematurely put lower level legions against him. Fukn so smart man...

People tend to forget, Hannibal’s source of men and resources came from SPAIN, where his father conquered and governed, then passed to Hannibal….. the whole "Hannibal could have won if supported by senate" is folley…… Scipio was in Spain crushing Hannibal’s Generals for this very reason before attacking Carthage and then beating Hannibal at Zama, Scipio was better and underrated.

HANIBAL IS PERFECT EXAMPLE THAT IF YOUR GOING TO FIGHT , FINISH THE DAMN THING. HE HAD ROME OVER THE BARREL MORE THAN ONCE AND WOULD NOT DROP THE HAMMER. ONCE BY WIPING OUT 75,000 OF THEIR SOLDIERS AND STILL NOT FINISH THE JOB AND ROME CRAWLED BACK TO LIFE AND KILLED CARTHAGE. ROME KNEW HOW TO FINISH A FIGHT.

Rome was dedicated to it's military, where Carthage was run by merchants. Hannibal never could have won by himself because he was isolated on the Italian peninsula and there were other AOs just as vital.

Yes, Rome knew how to finish a fight, but it wasn't so much that Hannibal just didn't know what to do with his victories, he simply wasn't able to do much with it. The Carthaginian government didn't give Hannibal the proper number of soldiers and the proper equipment, and he didn't have the siege skills to take out a city the size of rome. Additionally, he wasn't trying to conquer rome or completely destroy it, he was trying to damage it and show his, and Carthage's, superiority.

Hannibal wasn't scared of anything ,. His father made him swear to be an enemy of rome on blood for the rest of his life , he marched a whole army to Italy through the alpes which he lost nearly half of , He stayed in their Land for 14 years never lost a Battle to them with a single army and without any reinforcements from Carthage other than The galic tribes nor supplies from his country living of the land , he won major victories against them , Even once they encircled him in a valley he marched through the darkness of night while making them chase Fire attached to horns of cattle and then later Ambushed the Roman detachment sent to ambush him , He ambushed a whole roman army at trasimane which till this day remains the biggest and most successful ambush in the history of warfare , He won an unbelievable Victory at cannea outnumbered till the last moments of the battle , Fighting in the front with his men with one eye which resulted in the greatest Loss of humane life in a single day through the history of battles and warfare , He is the General that is more intimidating and Greater then even some kings Napoleon really considered him one of the best tacticians and he truly was , he made the rommans live in fear for 14 years , he didn't need the Great of The Conqueror added to his name , His name was enough to make anyone have chills Hannibal Barca , yet he is Super underrated

Yes like the saying ((he could defeat the Legions and Armys of Rome but he couldn't defeat Rome herself)) and Cannae was a Major battle and loss on both sides not just Rome and it's simple on why couldn't take and defeat Rome herself cause a city wide seige can take up to days weeks or even months and peopl occasionally don't have the essence or time and a City Wide seige takes up a lot of resources and it takes a good mind of seige technology resources and manpower and Hannibal didn't have the resources nor the manpower ((which is why he sent his brother back to Carthage)) and Hannibal after the previous battles and the battle of Cannae practically depleted him

If There wasn't Hannibal, Rome would have to invent him. Hannibal's might and military prevailing, made Romans pull themselves up by their own boots, evolve, grow an iron will, and ultimately succeed. Sulla, Marius, Caesar, Augustus, they were all the outcome of that success, the ultimate Scipio's legacy. Lack of opponents like Hannibal, would ultimately lead Rome to luxury and lust, away from the disciplines of "MOS MAIORUM", which would eventually resolve with it's fall

There are many fallacies and distortions that Rome deliberately made to create a bad image of Carthage, while the Greeks wrote objectively about the history of Carthage and their fascination with it. Among the distortions are claims of killing children and offering them as sacrifices. When you read what was written about Carthage from the point of view of other historians, you realize that these distortions are illogical. Aristotle wrote about Carthage in his book "On Politics" and expressed his admiration for it as a just country. It is also believed that Plato's book about the virtuous city may have been derived from his image or perception of Carthage. It is noteworthy that Carthage was the first civilization to abolish slavery and consider everyone citizens, the first civilization to establish a Senate (parliament), the first civilization to invent coins, and the first civilization to establish a constitution and laws. Magon is also considered the first agricultural engineer and the first to write about agriculture and compile an encyclopedia on the subject. Additionally, it is noteworthy that the Carthaginians were the first to discover the Americas before Columbus. Carthage had maritime, commercial, and agricultural power, in addition to excellence in crafts, ceramics, and the arts. The mosaics were delicate and exquisite. Carthaginian mosaics were seized by Rome after their overthrow. Iron machines used to steal the mosaics are still found in museums to this day. After the fall of Carthage, the Romans took Magon's agricultural book as spoils and used it to develop agriculture in Rome, which was suffering from hunger at that time. All the seeds, including lemons, olives, and wheat, were transported to Rome, and agriculture developed thanks to Carthage. Rome intended to make Carthaginian agricultural lands a source of its agricultural needs, and Carthage was called the granary of Rome. It has recently been discovered that the origin of macaroni is Tunisian-Carthaginian. The Carthaginians had a pasta resembling spaghetti but in smaller sizes, made from durum wheat, which was available in Carthage but not in Rome. After the overthrow of Carthage, the Romans learned and developed pasta making. Modern historians reveal many secrets about the great Carthage, and I feel very proud of this. Carthage Tunisia 🇹🇳❤

How do you know they were "something else?" How do you know they weren't the one thing that wasn't something else, but was the thing in and of itself? The thing that could not be anything other than what it is? I have a headache.

Roman legions were not a thing during Alexanders conquests. They are still mimicking the Phalanx.
@samuelschick8813
@samuelschick8813 Год назад
@@solaurelian7638, The Roman army (Latin: exercitus Romanus) was the armed forces deployed by the Romans throughout the duration of Ancient Rome, from the Roman Kingdom (753 BC-509 BC) to the Roman Republic (509 BC-27 BC) and the Roman Empire (27 BC-476 AD) Looks like it's a matter of semantics. Just because they mimicked the Greek Phalanx does not mean they were not legions.

he made history, facing inept Roman generals and crossing the Alps (resulting in a lot of his men and most of his elephants dying), but Scipio Africanus beat him by "thinking outside the box" and destroying his supply line so instead of destroying Rome, all Hannibal could do is terrorize the local peasants. Then Scipio threatened Carthage, so Hannibal lost the war.
