This pretty much sums up stan culture and what people will do for likes and views. Creating a ship name (Hanno) is something that people actually do with their favorite fictional and real life ships. Some people get off to the popularity of being with a certain person and milk it. Hann refused to be honest in the beginning because he loved all the attention it got him and Nanno exploited that with the act she put on. Which kept their cult like following with them.
Nanno: "Do you have a girlfriend?" Everyone: "SAY YES! SAY YES! Save your soul and SAY YES!!" Hann: "I .... do not." Everyone: "... I think we all know where this is going."
This was definitely the most black mirror episode so far of the show. It constantly feels like Nanno tests to see if they ever are willing to be honest with themselves. They can get out of the situation easily, because all our does is hurt their social standings. But the pressure of popularity and society's views force them to never doing that. They rather live the lie, than ever just being honest. It's like she offers them their darkest or deepest desires in exchange for what they most respect about themselves / their morals. She's like a God of consequence or something. I love the constant unique ways they change in their ways of storytelling and directing. Such a crazy show.
This ep was creepy especially the ending. Like we basically got to see a cult form for nanno and han. Just super creepy and the thing about it is people like the people in this ep exist irl especially online when it comes to stan culture in any entertainment community.
the show's name is literally girl from nowhere like although we want to know more about her powers and stuff and where she's from NOT KNOWING ABOUT HER IS KINDA THE IDEA
haha some episodes aren't meant to be taken so literally - they have an edge of surrealism to them. it's a commentary on social media, stan culture, bandwagoning and celebrities profiting off shipping culture. i guess you guys would find it hard to digest but there's a culture of shipping celebrities together in the asian entertainment industry (such as those who costar in a show or movie together). it's prevalent in the BL industry in thailand especially. costars could breathe in the others direction and people would start shipping them together. it gets toxic and delusional real fast. it's.. an interesting and disturbing phenomenon to say the least
Every episode has a theme as you said. Let's just say non of the stories in each episode is actually real. It might be a lil similar. But fortunately, such madness has never happened.

This reminds me of back when a Korean boy band, Dong Bang Shin Ki, was very popular. I heard that if their music videos have a woman in it, they NEVER showed woman's face (unless she has zero interaction with the DBSK boys) because their fanatics would dig up her personal information and even harassed the woman (not sure if it's true because this sounds too extreme to be true). Just like what Hannos do to Yui.
I think this is very common in Korea. They even have a name for this type of "fan": sasaeng, that are people who do extreme and questionable things to their idols, even harrasing them. It's really creepy. I've heard about a fan from a kpop idol (I don't remember his name) who wrote a letter to him with her menstrual blood and sent it. It seems like a cult indeed.
The point here is that, before Nanno showed up, Hann was doing this shenanigan with other girls just for likes and popularity while having a secret girlfriend. Unlike Nanno, those other girls were being toyed with by this dude while his girlfriend kept quiet, because both enjoyed the likes Hann got off his fake ships. That's why Nanno is doing this to them. And, yes, I agree that this is a commentary on this ridiculous stan and shipping mass fever that is going on these days.
Homegirl should’ve dumped him the moment he disregarded her feelings to chase after some “likes”. He was already cheating on her, but not with Nanno, instead with social media.
this episode was so weird and creepy, because we are told she is karma but i dont get why sometimes she punishes people who are simply not doing anything??
