Beautiful muisc! It took a while before finding some more information on this to me unknown composer, but finally got it:Born: 7 June 1894 - Bamberg - Germany Died: 2 July 1968 - Fuessen - Germany. Almost his complete oeuvres were destroyed towards the end of war, in 1944. (Classical composers database) Excellent initiative to dust this long forgotten composer !

Felicitari talentatei pianiste Dana Borsan din Romania si Orchestrei Filarmonicii "Moldova" din Iasi, Romania pentru interpretarea cu maiestrie a acestui frumos si interesant concert!

This is from the 2011 George Enescu Festival. There is another recording, with the same pianist, that contains Wolf's piano concerto, 4 "Bauerntänze" (peasant or barn dances?) for strings, "Springbrunnen" piano etude, piano rearrangement of a minuet by leopold mozart, and piano paraphrase on Strauss ii's "Wiener Blut". The orchestra in this recording is National Radio Orchestra of Romania conducted by Ludovic Bacs. Karl Urlberger rediscovered Wolf's works and released these records on his own label ("KU Classics", which I am not sure still exists). I am not sure where one can buy this 1997 recording, but from (iirc) UnsungComposers, they got the recording from Karl Urlberger himself, but trying to contact the orchestra or conductor or wtvr to get these recordings might be possible. As for sheet music, I am not sure. Oddly, Bob Cabedal uploaded this work too, and the same recording as this video, but it's almost a whole minute shorter...

This is a great find and in my opinion one of the better piano concertos of this period. It's tragic that most of his music was destroyed towards the end of WW2 so I wonder what other major works he wrote. Perhaps a few of them were performed and the parts lie hidden in a library somewhere. Time for some detective work!

Subtlety in droves, which matches the extroverted dramatic flourishes of imaginative musings. I would say that it gives the impression of improvisation, which enhances the listening experience - different emotions, regions, ideas, colours, merge and demerge; leading to absolutely delightful anticipation.

Thanks so much. It is great to hear for this first time these "works of an era" that were written in that "as if atonality never existed" style. Nice to hear Joseph Marx another great "rediscovery" mentioned here as well. Really enjoyed this one.

Isn't it amazing how over the course of years and years these concerts are still listened to on the regular? I am listening myself and scrolling through comments from years and years ago and suddenly your comment comes up just an hour ago. It is interesting to think that there are people in the world listening to this unknown piece at the same time you are.

Thanks a lot, very interesting! For me it does not anticipate anything Hollywood but shows a german composer writing in an Idiom which is almost forgotten today. I hear some Joseph Marx- a good deal of it of course. After WW2 this was completely out of vogue. And it is important to be able to hear such works again.

I find it unfair that everyone should remember Prokofiev, and no-one remembers Hanns Wolf who employed the same "cinematographic" method way ahead of Prokofiev and much more (as I find it) artistically .

@@MusicProposition Agreed. Certainly the latter half of the 2nd movement shows he had heard modern composers like Prokofiev, and you would not hear this kind of music in1880.
