Hans Niemann | FULL INTERVIEW 

Hey everyone, first off, congrats to Hans! Naturally, I wanted to respond, and I shared my thoughts on Twitter earlier today. x.com/DanielRensch/status/1821536464364278091 I look forward to seeing Hans in Paris, and hats off to Danya for a great interview.

Daniel Naroditsky is so good for chess. Phenomenal interview, asked every question the community wanted an answer to and in a respectful way that gave Hans the opportunity to speak his mind. So professional, well done!

Incredible how Danya handled the interview. Asked all the right questions and in spite of the „sensationalist“ nature of the topic he managed to bring sufficient distance in and not push where Hans wouldn‘t be comfortable. It‘s obvious that at points Danya himself got a bit uncomfortable yet still pulled through remaining neutral as he should. Also kudos to Hans on actually sharing all his thoughts even if they are at times a bit extreme. You can‘t entirely fault him for it given his age and what he has gone through

Masterful interviewing by Daniel. His approach made Hans comfortable to speak openly, even on the tougher questions.

This interview was pure gold. Kudos to Danya for his professionalism.

Dayna is a legendary interviewer. Asked difficult questions. Pressed on confusing or conflicting responses. Didn’t overtly take any of the responses personally, even when challenged by Hans. Most importantly, Dayna did exactly what a reporter is supposed to do, and that’s provide the platform for the interviewee to confidently give their thoughts. Hans actually talked about the toll the rumors and accusations had on his day to day life in a way that felt genuine and kind of tragic. To me, Hans is a bit of a condescending jerk that is pretty unlikable, but the price he has paid for the sin of beating Magnus OTB while having a history of cheating online was way too high. Regardless of whether you agree or disagree with what Hans said, it was a 10/10 interview.

Danya nailed this interview! He asked all the right questions and kept it professional the whole way through-definitely not an easy task, but he made it look effortless. This interview is going down as one of the best in chess history, and it’s all thanks to Danya’s skill and composure. Major props to him for giving us such a legendary moment in the chess world!

Hans had proctors supervising him on his matches against MVL and Wesley. In my book he is a world class chess player for beating them in these matches.

I actually like Hans a lot now. He oozes honesty and is a breath of fresh air. Like seriously the way he expresses his honest and true feelings regardless of what people may think is just awesome. Imagine if politicians were like this. I know he may come off as rude or unprofessional to some people, but really it's hard for people to understand what this guy went through at such a young age too. It's actually impossible to imagine or put yourself in his shoes unless you experience something similar yourself. He not only had opportunities taken away from him, he became a meme and the butt of a joke over something that wasn't even true and never proven. Like it's one thing if Logan Paul or Sneako get publicly humiliated / canceled for something awful they actually said or did. But in this case we're talking about a young innocent talented person who wasn't actually bothering anyone or doing anything wrong. He played the game of his life and instead of being congratulated he was punished! How crazy is that?!

His frustration really comes out here. I feel for him.

Having such a heavy cloud of doubt and "shame" around would you crush 99% of people mentally, especially when you are a teenager, but if one can find the internal fortitude to turn all that into fuel for the 🔥!!, it can consume the entire world, WE CAN NEVER LET THE THINGS WE'VE DONE OR NOT DONE IN THE PAST DEFINE US, we choose who we are every day with the actions we take, we have to work on ourselves everyday to build REAL VALUE FROM WITHIN so that when people on this earth try to define us by our past, we know who we really are today!, Hans should keep working on his game day and night so that all who cast that shadow over him and tried to cast him into the wilderness, will see the power of 110% percent commitment to getting better through work!

I’m newer to the chess world. I have become extremely invested to learning and just growing as a casual player. Learning all of the great GM’s past and present, i absolutely am rooting for Hans so much. I love the anti-hero arc and I love how relatable he is. You look at Magnus, Hikaru, Arjun - it feels hard sometimes to relate but Hans just seems normal. Also, I effing love Daniel (Danya) so much. He is such a great commentator and his puns really are wicked.

It's great to see Hans performing well despite increased surveillance. I'd argue it's unreasonable to assume he's continued to cheat under a wide range of environments where he is being deeply monitored in such a fashion. I'm also a huge fan of the Chess site putting out this interview where Hans directly blames them for all of the problems he is facing. Allowing the viewer to decide is far more respectful for us, and for Hans, than trying to cover up and silence Hans' claims. I wish more companies took this route. I disagree with Hans' past but I'm also rooting for his continued success knowing he's playing fairly and succeeding today in 2024. Really just props to everyone here, Hans and the Chess website.

Was a wild interview to watch, glad I stuck around. I'm starting to like Hans. To be fair being a 19 Y/O with slander all over national news about "bead's" has to be taxing. Great interview from Danya and Hans.

Kept checking my settings to make sure I wasn’t on 2x speed.

So in the past 3 days he has beaten MVL, Wesley and anish and couple of weeks ago vidit. We are witnessing the raise of a champion

The bottom line is that Magnus was embarrassed at the loss, quit the tournament, and then justified his leaving through insinuations about Hans and fair play when there was absolutely NO EVIDENCE. Magnus should apologize as well as those who ran with the accusations.

The best way to prove people wrong is by being successful. And Hans is doing so.

His point that he has now proven that he plays well enough to beat some of the best players in the world, and thus his former victories that were questioned should now be seen to be very plausibly legit, is a very good point.

Hans is right. I asked in a Hikaru video comments if there was ever any proven cheating by hans besides what he admitted to when younger, or were they unfounded accusations. I didn't know much about the drama so i was genuinely curious. I was met with 3 responses: - "No there was no proven cheating " - "Learn more about chess." - "Once a cheater, always a cheater." So clearly there was no proven cheating besides the admitted cheating. I then researched for myself and feel even more confident now that somehow Hans became the target of the best players in the world with no proof. how is this different from the Kramnik stuff? Good for hans for letting the chess speak for itself. And hats off to Danya for standing by his statement.

I love Hans. He is a great player.

I'm 49 and still making mistakes in life; nobody is perfect; not even magnus or hikaru; i root for this guy. Besides is good for modern chess to have a "bad boy" to root for or against. And he CAN play pretty good,

Hans really was treated unfairly, but I don't believe Danny & Magnus are as evil as he does. Though Magnus is probably too arrogant to give the heartfelt response this interview deserves, I think Danny will. Looking forward to that!

I think at first, rumors got out about him cheating online at 12 years old. Which made Magnus paranoid and immediately accused him of cheating. Magnus was nearing 2900 and that loss probably stung. The group backed Magnus understandably from a business perspective and wanted to be sure. All the collateral damage and staining his career and life was not planned, just unfortunate. Except, when then they started black listing him. That’s when they tried to ruin his career. Also, some RU-vid streamers did some nasty stuff. At this point I don’t think anyone is after him, but there are certainly groups at work, police, government, military, everywhere that will team up. They will lie, set you up, ***k with you. When things like this happen, it’s not crazy to think one of these groups go against you. It’s very real. Happened to me, confused and pissed me off. Made me paranoid. But I flourished and I’m no longer naive. Hopefully I can teach this to my children. Hopefully he heals from this and reaches the same conclusion. It’s good to learn this younger rather than in your 30’s or 40’s. Wish him the best.
