Review of Hantek’s current probe model CC-65.
This is a 10 mA to 65 Amp AC and DC current probe. It comes with bnc or banana jack input. It has an on/off switch with 2 ranges. It has a power LED and a low power LED, and runs off of a 9 Volt battery. It also has a degaussing button. #hantek #currentprobe #CC65

Thanks a lot for video. I have been thinking of buying this one to use in my project but I have some concerns. It seems at low amps around 100mA, probe works so noisy and this makes usage kind of fluctuating but in terms of speed seems preety good. Do you have any decent probe recommendation to use in low amp curcuit ?

Clamp probes tend to be bad at low currents. You will have to use something inline for low currents. uCurrent Gold or tinyCurrent. However, these are hard to find, particularly uCurrent Gold which is out of stock everywhere. However, CurrentRanger is available, but it is more expensive than the CC-65 clamp probe.

Thanks for nice presentation. While I was a student in the university (1979!) I used to use Techtronix analog oscilloscope and other measuring instruments. Currently I a am teacher in the same department, however, we don't have enough money to buy Techtronix or Fluke devices anymore. We only buy cheap Chinese products.

I loved the Tektronix DM91X line of meters. I used to use a DM914. I liked it better than my Fluke 89, and it had a huge variety of power on options, and built in display diagnostics. While not a Tektronix design, I think the firmware was from Tektronix.
@KissAnalog
@KissAnalog 5 лет назад
Tektronix and Fluke were both scooped up by Danaher Corporation so I think they wanted Fluke to focus on hand held DMMs, so Tektronix stopped making theirs. I do think Fluke picked up on some of Teks technology though. I need to look at the power on options;). Thank you for sharing!!

The button on the clamp is zero, not degauss. It eliminates the effect of external fields that would mess with the DC measurement (in effect, you're measuring a constant magnetic field, and you need to cancel out all other fields, including the Earth's, to distinguish the induced field). You need to zero the clamp each time you move it. Degauss means demagnetizing.
@KissAnalog
@KissAnalog 5 лет назад
Yes I believe we are both correct. A current probe that can read DC current can retain a charge or magnetic field as it is not reset in a DC application. Monitoring AC current will reset the core as the current resets the core each cycle. So, a current probe capable of DC current measurement will have a degaussing or zero feature. If I do not move the probe, but zero it then take several measurements, I’ll eventually need to re-zero as it needs degaussing. Another way to see this is it might take several pressing of the zero button to actually get a good degaussing. Below is a nice note from Keysight. Thank you for this great comment! literature.cdn.keysight.com/litweb/pdf/N2893-97004.pdf?id=2003257

@@KissAnalog I am really fascinated by power electronics, both switching and linear. I had a chance to go intern at Tesla and they were using some resonant converters for their cars and its all great stuff, though a bit advanced for me, nevertheless power electronics is something I really wish to master or at least become proficient with. I also love digital stuff and microcontrollers, that is the focus of 90% of my videos only because its easy for me , but the power electronics stuff I really want to learn and build my own. Everytime I search youtube for "Build a power supply" the common thing to see is people using prebuilt power supplies and attaching a pot and a volt meter screen and throwing it in an enclosure and there you go "i built a power supply". I have been concidering taking a course in California with "Ridley engineering" where they teach you how to make a switching power supply down to winding your own inductors. But its $2000 so im in the process of saving up for that.
@KissAnalog
@KissAnalog 5 лет назад
That is great! I see you are really interested, and have done your homework. I hope to teach power design, and how to design magnetics as well. I’m going to build on videos until people watching these will eventually become experts! I’ll keep it simple, but with each step, the depth of understanding will become quite high.

Hi Eddie, watched the video on the hantek amp probe, well done. It won't work for me though I need a much higher frequency response and am looking at a Rogowski coil. Have you done anything with them? I have one that I want to use with a scope but I have no integrator. I was thinking of using it with a 50 Ohm resister across the output but now I need to calibarate it and I don't know the turns and L I was wondering if you have any suggestions? Thanks Richard

I can see that you are not trying to compete with EEV-Dave or Mr. Carlson in gear:-) That brings me to think of, what gear do I really need if II want a "complete" lab, if power supply and amplifier is what I think of doing most?
@KissAnalog
@KissAnalog 5 лет назад
Fried Mule thanks -that’s funny! It would be nice to have gear given to me by the big boy equipment guys - but I guess I’ll have to keep buying my own;). I actually do have a storage to empty out where I have lots of older equipment. Maybe I should give it away to my viewers...? I probably have extra Tektronix multimeters that I could give away. I need to find some way to do that. I’ll do a video on lab equipment for amp and ps work - and why it would be needed.

Amazon had them send me the right one Sunday, now I’m just waiting for UPS to pick up the wrong one. I put it through its paces Sunday and it seems at least as good as the one I got in my Uscope kit from aeswave. I was able to get really clean traces on things like fuel injectors, ignition coils , and my fuel pump. I wanted one with a bnc connector to go with my new Owon scopemeter which for the money is not bad at all. It has a nice clear display and enough detail to pick out thigs like a pintle hump on an injector.
@KissAnalog
@KissAnalog 4 года назад
That's great - I'm happy to hear that Amazon helped with that. I kept my Owon current probe too long to return it - but I think I was kind of happy to keep it so that I could see if I could make some improvements - hopefully just chaining value of components and desoldering bad connections;) What the heck is a Pringle hump;) That sounds like something very specialized!
@frankl1955
@frankl1955 4 года назад
A Pintle Hump is the slight change in current in a fuel injector when the injector pintle passes through the solenoid winding core on closure. If nothing else its an indication of physical movement in an injector. Also, with a current probe and scope I can get an indication of the health of any commutator driven dc motor like the fuel pump and cooling fans by the commutator humps riding on the DC. In fact I was having weird heat related problems and when I scoped the current on the cooling fan I found about half the commutator segments were not being used. The fan ran smooth but was not moving its rated CFM.

Zero button on CC65 gets stuck travels too deep! I'm sure Hantek NEVER actually use their own products so continue building faulty products year in year out. Strangely the CC650 uses the same button and design but works correctly. You can add an oring on the CC65 zero switch to fix the over travel. Reminder one screw retains the PCB the brass contacts are pain to locate back try some dielectric grease verticle peaks towards PCB. Be gentle with use as many trim pots and the cable exiting the body is NOT protected and will break there. As to contacting Hantek for support... don't waste your time they don't reply.
@KissAnalog

Thanks for this feedback! I agree, Hantek's customer service doesn't seem to be home;) I wiggle the button when it gets stuck, and I agree that the cord exiting the meter does not have strain relief, so I'm careful with it. But, it does seem to work great for the price;)
