After reading through some of the comments, it made me ask the question “where is the negativity coming from?” My wife and I made a similar move to Puerto Rico. I immediately identify with many parts of this video. The thing that I really enjoy about the move to the Caribbean is how I changed and became part of the local culture. My friends are puertorican. I’m interested in how things are done and am forever asking questions and learning. Being from the Northeast, work and money is something that is all around and you become that. It takes a real effort to stay in that environment and leave that mindset. To travel and live in an environment that places a lessor value on those things makes it much easier. Now comes the contradictory part - we bought a rundown shell of a house and started to renovate it with the idea of entertaining people there to share our experience....sure we’ll earn some money....but the money isn’t the driving force. Retirement isn’t leaving something you dislike, it’s running to something you do. So I’ve just finished my morning coffee....if you excuse me, I have to clean up some of my banana trees. Buen día 😎👍🌴🇵🇷

This couple taught me so many things about life in 24 minutes than I have in the past 22 years. Im a 22 year old Costarican guy from San Jose whos goal is to make lots of money and experience what the American dream is and I have to admit that Ive been stressed and very unhappy. I feel happier now after watching this 24 min video. God, what they say somehow made me see how blind Ive been. I am young, healthy, smart but havent realized that I live in a paradise and being happy and providing yourself and your family what is needed to live is what it is all about. Thank you for making these videos. They really help :)

A blessing in disguise that the imported foods you are used to are so expensive, then you eat all the WFPB/Vegan foods, and LOOK by default you are VERY HEALTHY! You are also helping the local small farmers and biz owners earn an income! This is sooo awesome!! I had to get healthy because of my heart issue, and have found that this country is soooo stressful and I have to guard myself from that! I do, but it is sooo hard. I also can live there nicely on my SS, which is impossible to do in the states - even by renting a room (still no money left over to do anything). Y'all have inspired me to look into becoming and Ex-Pat. Thank you for sharing your beautiful new unstressed life! Shalom and G-d bless!

Right now I am in Thailand and I just came for the same learning. I can certainly tell you with my experience, more stuff you have, more suffering you get into. I am visiting Thailand for 2 purpose. First to discover the true self (which I did by joining a retreat on Buddhism) and the second one is to find a place where I can eventually move to. Thailand has worked for me in both aspect. I am going back to Seattle and will work there for next 10 years and save as much as possible. And then I will quit and do exactly what this couple is doing.

@J Cripps silly conjecture? you are a fool. If I had a son, I would be lecturing him from the moment he could speak to NEVER ask out a female in school or in the work place. Never tell a joke or laugh at a joke (even a clean joke), in fact if possible do not hire females because they can and some do lobby sexual harassment charges, merely for offering constructive criticism, or discipline if they break the rules (show up late, not get their work done on time, etc).

I am from New York too. I moved to a tropical country 25 years ago (Vietnam) and have never regretted it. One of the big factors is being somewhere where it is always warm. In New York there are only about 12-15 really warm weekends per year and so when caught in a rainy weekend in summer I felt miserable having lost a precious weekend. This all said... I am not one of those people who hated New York. In fact I love New York and go back every year for about 5-6 weeks usually late summer early fall.

In many corrupt places you can simply be stopped by the police and asked to pay money. If you are a foreigner on vacation you are shark bait. The best you can do in some places is to stay on the tourist trail. Sure Costa Rica doesn't have a bad rep but the whole world is changing now.

@@thyslop1737 Oh, okay, it seems that after five years you will know if you can handle the shift. Obviously there isn't any science to back this up but it's what I've seen. I've watched people kind of stumble along for a few years and decide it's not for them. But when they've been here for a good five years they are probably gonna stay. It's almost like you can't go back to the US ever to live. This is just my experience of watching others. As a costarican i can tell you that is all about location. A lot of ex- pats or tourists decide to look for a cheap location or worse cheap labor (illegal inmigrants that received less money under the table) and end up paying a hard price for it. For example, the girl that was killed last year in an airbnb escazu , was in a property owned by an american that hire a guard illegally and it turn out to be a rapist running away from his country. A lot of them also prefer to go to places like Jaco, which us basically an american owned by now and most Costaricans tend to avoid the place because is a full on red light district with a lot of sugar dadies, prostitution and sketchy people all around.

I think this is a great video that many can consider if they feel they just aren't happy where they're living or where they are in life. I'm really happy for these people and for any other people that make the trek and relocate and are much happier. I personally cannot be away from my children and family. Chicago actually is a good fit and my hometown. I know the winters suck but I can jump in my car and hit Florida in 20 hours if I gotta get warm and I love the rest of the year here. Lots of dream homes and owners who could no longer afford to live in them after losing so much so they went back to the States, or Canada, ect. But now things are turning around. @@Seekingtruth-mx3ur , yes, I know about that, and it's usual for us, to blame others, the ones we look to, criminal or careless. But I think it comes even closer to us, as we are thought from young to compromise ourself, not beeing straight and honest in our sensitivity, (which came from Live itself) Can you imagine, as kid the first time going to school, after the love and care you've got from you're parents? You where very sensitive still, but the value of you against the rest of the kids, whom might have better results is specially mis-used by the teacher, to mislead you to work harder to achieve.. The achievement has taken you a life..to become something for the society's goal. And at the end of that..there is not even a worm and happy place left for you, just to old.. Paradise is what we wanted, and hell is what is left.

But the BEST is the nature, it is very beautiful...and the lakearea really has no comparison...people need to come and see.....so much cheaper then the US...for 1000 USD a month one can live great!!

I'm turning 30 in 3 months. I had a spiritual awakening last April. Quit drinking beer and got rid of the toxic relationship that was dragging on for 3 years. I sold, threw out or gave away pretty much everything I own. I can fit my life into a small car and I'm still downsizing it feels good. I put my house up for sale and I quit my 80k a year job. It's scary. But I'm single with no kids and nothing holding me back except a mortgage payment an empty house and an unfulfilling job. Ive always felt a fire burning inside of me and I almost let it go out. I almost settled for a life I know I would've been unhappy in. I know not everyone is in my situation they have kids or a wife ect. But i cant let this opportunity slip by. I'll be heading to Colorado California and Oregon playing music. I'm sure I'll figure it out along the way. Stoked. My family is not very supportive of course just like any other family my mom thinks I need help Haha. The fancy car and big house never interested me. Perhaps ill RU-vid my journey

Thank you Caroline! We have found that it is really no sacrifice either. The food we eat is better for us, as a result we stay active and feel better. The best things here are free, and in fact the necessities, are still inexpensive. (relatively speaking). Unless you choose to live in Escazu? But before I do that I will move back to NJ! I get a kick out of everyone saying it is wildly expensive to live here. Considering many Costa Ricans earn about $2 an hour, and are very happy. lol

@@riderforever2010 We can easily tell by the skulls what kind of human u were. Asian, negroid etc. And different groups of humans have differences. For instance, africans tend to have higher testosterone levels. All these differences in groups manifest themselves over the long term in what kind of societies they build. Obviously these are trends and you can't evaluate an individual based on statistical trends but it still gives you vital information in regards to having a macro view of the world.

That type of person is obviously looking for something better and then only settling for you after nothing better comes along. So you have to ask yourself do you really want someone that is just settling for you? Before you answer flip the situation around and I'm sure you won't find it as romantic as you first thought, as a matter of fact you should find it kind of pathetic.
