I know Philly never reads my comments, he's to busy playing, but still. The SU-122 didn't have any gun depression because it wasn't a tank destroyer per say. It was a seige gun. Self propelled artillery. It was made to drive up and provide 122mm HE fire support to infantry and armor. The long barrel version was an attept to dual purpose the gun and at the same time provide it more accuracy and range in the artillery roll.

I'm gunna be one of those people. But you're wrong about the role of the 122. Self Propelled guns, the SU-122, ISU-152, ect, were designed and used in doctrine as basically direct fire artillery support for the infantry. So their roles would be blowing up houses, bunkers, fortifications. They didn't need depression because they'd be firing at targets that were static and that have a tendency to be at least one story tall.

What about the SU-85 it has a 85mm cannon at 4.7 very OP

This SPG was designed to shoot over long distances... That's why depression is no issue... And a the breach is the 2nd reason why ;-)
