It wasn’t real to him because he died alone and he knew it. He failed to realize being together with others is most important until it was too late causing him to cut everyone off and hurting them by doing so
I love that when you first watch this as a young man it feels like a call to step outside and go into the wild to test the might of your spirit, but when you get older you realize that is about going back to people and the ones you love, even if they have flaws and hurt you, is better to live with them that alone in the open.
I live in AK & was living in Anchorage, AK when Christopher Johnson McCandless passed away. I have been been to many of the places he has been, AK highway, Yukon, Liard Hot Springs, Fairbanks, Denali. I attended University of Fairbanks where Bus 142 is now stored. I admire him for the life he lived. He experienced more at the age of 24 than most people do in their lifetime. Ironically, he discovered at the end of his journey he truly did not want to be alone & needed people. He leaves an indelible mark on the people that read the story of his life. R.I.P. Christopher J. This was lovely I fell in love with this film immediately and watched it countless time and now I’ve read the book by Jon Krakauer which was extremely touching and pieced together harmoniously. I wish I been up there by now and I haven’t that really makes me wanna go more before I turn 30
I would be happy if I lived the life he lived. No regrets . He went out and tried something against the grain and it was wholesome and innocent. Dying alone does not mean dying unhappy in my personal opinion.
I would have loved for Christoher to have survived his ordeal/experience in the wild! I do believe he would have done things a little bit differently. God rest his soul🙏🏽😢

Watched this movie in 2009 and then numerous time after that. Read a book it was based on by Jon Krakauer. Easily my favourite nonfiction story. Had a great impact on my life!
Happinnes can be experienced when you are alone with yourself❤, I'm not saying you should live all by yourself, but I understand why he wrote that, he must have felt very sad that he could not share with someone all the beautiful things he saw and experienced 😢
It's not fair,,why his life end like that,,I cried a lot for him,,, though finally he found the truth but he died with regrets after realising the truth,,,he deserved more happiness,,why end like that,,I wish no one had a death like him,,, people can't live alone,, happiness is real when it is shared indeed,,,,,I just wish that Alexander Supertramp may rest in peace 😔❤️
I just rewashed that movie yesterday! The first time was when my 34 year old son Josh was home sick from in high school. We both watched it together! It is a special memorie to this day! ❤
My heart and mind always felt this way but was never strong enough to go for it,regrets are plentiful..But I love Chris story it is sad but beautiful..Love and peace to all!!🙏🙏

Tin Hines I know how you feel, my biggest regret in life is not travelling, and living life to the full, now I'm 60, the regret is hard to deal with sometimes, I only hope I have enough time to make up for it,as I write this I have a signed copy of Jon Krakauer,s book on the mantel above the fire.
I know what hell looks like, I've touched the walls there, I've seen the attacks of those dark thoughts spoken by the Inner Bitch But now I am free, I have come out of there to my old world where I am happy and can fulfill my dreams.
So here is the answer ,dont quit the material world permanently, be a traveller between nature and materialistic world. Spend time accordingly means live where you like to live at the point of that time.
Very sad story. Like a long suicide really 😢. Some things seemed too grand to be true as well. Kayaking the Grand Canyon with no white water experience and killing a moose with a 22 just isn’t believable. It seems like he wanted more out of life than what he imagined was ahead of him and I credit him for trying to change that. This story is a great example why therapy is so important. Especially for introverts who go unnoticed by those around them. RIP 😔
He went to find a heaven on Earth. He found Heaven. But had to go through hell first. We all want to find it. And we will someday. We will all someday meet him. Fly with the angels my friend. You found the peace you desperately needed. Heaven would be a place he’s searched for. No politics, no systems banning us from living to our full potential. Cuz Earth ain’t it!

Why so many are inspired by a man who threw his life away I’ll never understand. He went into the Alaskan wilderness unprepared and filled with hubris and ended up dying young , alone and suffering. His life should serve as a cautionary tale instead of something to be emulated.
This is one of my favourite story, what can i understand, he kida not happy with his parents hence the journey. Currently i am in that kind of situation, should i make a journey like him?
But you learn big things like that by doing big things like he did. A good man. Tried to figure shit out on his own. Hard to do in this world. He tried.
There is some connection between Chris and Timothy Treadwell the Grizzly Man. They both have a wildlife existence, they both died in Alaska and Chris died inside bus 142 While Treadwell died eaten by bear 141...
