The caretaker of all living things, the 7 year old who went above and beyond to comfort and care for those around him, including strangers. Daniel had a power of making anyone feel loved, and feel welcome.
In letters sent to his parents, those who knew Daniel wrote about how he was a good team leader, who made sure that everyone had a fair turn. Josephine’s (another student at Sandy Hook) aide talked about how Daniel’s spot on the carpet was behind Josephine, and she always accidentally sat there. Daniel would remind her, and say that he didn’t mind and would share. He always helped Joey’s aide find Joey’s glasses whenever she hid them, and had always kept an eye on her.
Daniel was so helpful in class it became a thing for subtitle teachers to be told to “ask Daniel” if they were ever in need of any help, he was the first to volunteer to take someone to the nurse? Or to clean up a mess. He was the caretaker of all living things, if any ants appeared in the kitchen he would take them outside to be reunited with families, and help worms cross the hot pavement. If his family had gone shopping, they’d be half way across the parking lot, look back and see Daniel holding the door for other shoppers. His kindness knew no bounds, as far as Daniel was concerned, everyone was his friend.
Today, Daniel would be 15 years old. He was one of the 26 innocent lives taken at the Sandy Hook Elementary school shooting on December 14th 2012, in Newtown Connecticut. Daniel was just 7 years old.
