Happy 60th birthday to the BASS GOD, John Taylor! Let's celebrate him with an excerpt from his speech at the Fire and Ice Ball held in Birmingham back in December.
I met Nigel many times i remember his mom working at St Judes in Maypole with my mom. I also met him many times on the 50 night bus talked about what he was up to. You couldn't make this up sometimes Ali Campbell and half of UB40 where on the bus too and they got off at Moseley dance hall, also remember my brother hanging out with Roger down at cheapside in Digbeth and going to the tower block where Roger lived. I also remember meeting Andy Taylor who bought me a pint down at i think was called the cross keys back then in Kings Heath while the band where doing the their first album up at Bobs at the top of York rd. Never in my wildest dreams did I think these guys would become superstars as they where so down to earth, except Nick. By the way first time II have been back to Brum In 15 years was last year in 2019 and bumped into Andy Wickett at Fletchers Kngs Heath which is owned my ex girlfriend from school sisters music venue, Such a small world, he did a great a great set then chatted till 3 in the morning about old times until we where ask to leave. First time i have written down my memories of that time, I can tell you Birmingham was an amazing place during that period it was like the star had aligned over south Birmingham and our generation and something was going to happened and it did.
John., thankyou for all the work you have given us . I'm so grateful to have evolved in those days and not now...Very special and much missed days that will always be remembered and celebrated again as soon as the music starts
Looking good at 60 John, even though you do not look 60 years old. You are still my idol and favourite Duran Duran artist. 40 years on ( showing my own age now) I’m still a great fan and still ecstatic that I’ve seen you all in concert when it was Aaliyah (21st birthday). Thank you so much for part of your life story. HAPPY BELATED BIRTHDAY Mr John Taylor 🌞
I have been a Duranie since I was 10 years old and loved John Taylor with all my adolescent heart! That love translated into adulthood and I began to really appreciate his musicianship. He was so brave and honest in sharing his story of addiction. What an amazing man! And so down to earth!
