I saw him in person once by coincidence. I was in a bookstore in NYC with a friend and he walked in and we said, that's Barnabas! He smiled and was gracious. At the time, I was too shy to try to strike up any kind of conversation. I wish that I would have told hiim how much I loved Dark Shadows, but I think that he could tell by my reaction.
i watched dark shadows from the time i was 12 years old . im now 59 years old and still trying to fine episodes that i have n"t seen my favorite actor was jonathan frid he is surely missed
What a wonderful tribute to Mr. Frid! The world seems a smaller place without his presence. So many great early pix of him! He had such a charming smile..and those eyes! A gentleman to his very fingertips. He loved his fans and we'll never stop loving him. Thanks for posting, DeppTard.
I just found this post in the Jonathan Frid Facebook Grp >>>> "" Mr. Frid was a proud Canadian. When he retired he moved back to Ontario Canada where he had family and many friends. Jonathan Frid never married ( obviously ) and he never had any children. However, he was survived by his beloved cousins and his brother's children, and by his Grand niece and nephews who loved and adored him. They called him 'Uncle John'. He was dearly loved. Mr. Frid was not a religious man so there was no ceremony after he died. He never liked to be fussed over and he did not want a funeral nor a memorial. He preferred to be remembered alive and enjoying life. Mr. Frid did not want a final resting place in fear of the many obsessive fans he had who would seek out the grave of 'Barnabas Collins' and set up memorials and write graffiti about his character. He didn't want fans to put him up on a pedestal like a movie idol. He never wanted that kind of attention. Jonathan Frid said that many fans had trouble separating him, the actor from the character he had played. Fans would address him as Barnabas instead of his real name and they'd ask him a lot of 'vampire' related questions. He did not want those kinds of obsessive fans to bother his relatives . Mr. Frid would often say that he was nothing like his Barnabas character. He also stated several times that he would like to be remembered for more than just his work on Dark Shadows. He had twenty years of acting experience before he even appeared on the TV show and several years of doing dramatic readings in his reader's theater and in his one-man shows and his tour with the play, Arsenic and Old Lace with actors Marion Ross, Jean Stapleton and Larry Storch. Mr. Jonathan Frid was so much more than just his Barnabas character. R I P .""
Thank you for bringing back some good memories. Loved this so much. What a talented person Jonathan Frid was. You can tell he enjoyed life so much. I sure miss his sense of humor.
This is wonderful! Perfect choice of music and pictures! Especially loved seeing Jonathan and Lara Parker dancing! Such a lovely man and talented actor. Always loved him and Dark Shadows. Thank you so much for sharing this!!!!
Mr. Frid had no sisters just many lady fans who wished he was their boyfriend or husband or related to him. Mr. Frid only had three brothers and Nephews.
What a very handsome man Jonathan Frid was, even in his old age. Dark Shadows was the only soap opera I ever bothered to watch and Mr. Frid was the reason why. Once Dark Shadows ended, so did my jogging career rushing home from school in time to catch the show. I'd like to think that junior high and high school after school detention rooms were very lonely places when the series was televised..
U will b, missed, so much, Jonatha!n, Frid ! { Barnabas} ! N Thank u, 4 so many, Precious, memories ! w/ I was a, teenager! Happy Birthday Dear N Sweet, Jonathan ! 🎂🥰!

@Lyle Petrov on Facebook there are groups dedicated in his memory and on Amazon and eBay you can buy a book of fan remembrances about him called "Remembering Jonathan Frid" makes one feel like they have met him personally. It's a great read.
+Nanci Casad Yes the images of Frid with the beard and in the Tux are of him and Lara Parker reunited at a Soap Opera TV special Fifty Years of Soaps the special is or was posted on RU-vid in Two parts. They showed a brief clip from a DS 1840 episode and then Jonathan and Lara came out on stage. He, Frid was very close to Lara more so than many of the other actresses from the show. The fans went nuts, seeing them together.
