it may be the 5th largest organ in the world, but large means not always beautifull. The best organs in the world are still in the Netherlands. Take for example the Marcussen organ at the Laurenskerk in Rotterdam. That organ might be smaller, but the sound is magnificent and soo beautifull! Or take for example the Hinsz organ of the Bovenkerk in Kampen. That's also a very beautifull organ!
This Hazel Wright Organ is just a monster not a musical instrument ! I am not a negative person, just a music lover and a very positive person for instrument we can named music instrument !
It is true that a Hazel Wright Organ is different from the mighty and majestic organs made by Casavant (Possibly the best organ builder in North America), but Hazel Wright is still amazing, and this instrument is no exception. Pipe organs, no matter what make they are, are all beautiful, special, and unique in there own way and no 2 are exactly alike. And for calling this thing a monster, is true since it's the fifth largest in the world, and the 2nd largest Roman Catholic Church organ after the one at Saint Stevens in Germany, but because it's a monster adds to the majesty of this instrument, and also makes it even more special. This pipe organ is a magnificent instrument, and seeing it being restored knowing that it'll be better than before is beyond wonder, and I feel beyond blessed to be part of a parish that houses such a treasure as the world's 5th largest pipe organ
"We build a new tomorrow, on plans we make today." Bigger does not always mean better, but build again we must and "Soli Deo Gloria". There are some who will talk about better use of funds, but how many funds were brought in for other Godly purposes as Christ taught us to do, from this building and instrument being present? Like Dr. Schuller (the elder) said, "Anyone can count the seeds in an apple~ only God can count the apples in a seed."
Are you sure ? How old is the recording ? Mark Thallander lost his left arm on 03.08.2003. I can´t believe that it´s possible to play this arrangement with only one arm and two feet, is it ?
+NewAmadeus Good late evening, Mark and I have been friends since the late 1960's. I've heard Mark play since the loss of his arm. Ms.T. Longo is the poster of this and a number of other works. What's your guess?
'Seems to me that since the organ makes not a single sound without an ORGANIST playing it, the least they could have done was show the organist himself!!!
I agree! However, it is my understanding that the refurbishment (in Italy) of "Hazel" will include a record and playback system - which will allow an organist to record a piece, then touch "play" and walk out into the great space and see if the sound of their choice of stops, crescendos and diminuendos (etc) are exactly as they wish them to be. How cool is that?
At console is none other than Mark Thallander, fmr. Sr. Organist at Crystal Cathedral for 18 years, a living tribute to positive faith and founder of facebook.com/TheMarkThallanderFoundation
But, we must pay due respect to the Roman Catholic parish (Christ Cathedral) and the Diocese of Southern California who purchased the Campus and the structures there on, saving the place for future generations!
There is no "Diocese of Southern California"; Only the Episcopal Church designates dioceses by state. Catholic Dioceses are named for their see cities; in this case the "Diocese of Orange".But, regardless, organ fanciers owe the diocese a debt of gratitude for the decision to ship the entire organ back to Ruffatti in Italy for badly needed repairs and renovation. Decades of exposure to air pollution, intense sunlight, and radiant heat have caused serious problems. Additionally, there has been serious water damage to wind chests, etc. resulting from leaking window seals. To paraphrase an old saying : "People who worship in glass churches shouldn't install pipe organs. ;-) "
Well, Jerry, if you look up Christ Cathedral you will see the many changes made in the Crystal Cathedral that were necessary for Catholic liturgies (Masses) to be said, you will, I believe, not see much of the former Crystal Cathedral. It is, however, still very beautiful, even magnificent, but in a different way.
Jose's '43rd Birthday in San Jose California i chose it this way no 1 else yes - you did all on you your Friends are coming to pick you up at 3:00pm you had better be ready to go with them whether you like it or not much to your chagrin
Large and impressive, but it has a very dry sound. It's a combination of two organs that probably weren't designed to be together. And the building acoustics are not kind. Don't get me wrong - I'd love to play it. But it's not a good example of purposeful tonal design.
@YouFoundSharpe Official no West Point is # 2 largest working , largest church organ, LA Congregational is now the 3rd largest working and 2nd largest church organ , those are correct , NJ is mostly not working , so the word working is added to the organ and its spot on the list
Aaaaaahhhhh the Glass Palace. I am not sure you can claim that best organs are in the Netherlands. I am sure there are many but to gloss over some of the great English Cathedrals to say nothing of the others in France and Germany is a little myopic.
So what, who cares, and what difference does it make??? Size is relative!!!!! It's whether or not it is being used to and for The Glory of God!!!! In a cult setting, I would wonder????
I AGREE WITH THE 5 RU-vid DISLIKES, HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO YOU IS A TIRED OLD SONG, AND THE PEOPLE WANT SOMETHING NEW. AND WE HATE THE "HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO YOU" THEME SONG. );-(
Then play the Beatles birthday song and stop ruining "Happy Birthday" for others.. Some of us like the traditional "happy birthday" because it brings back memories of our youth. If you waste "hate" on a birthday song, you must be miserable.
Well, I will promise that I will never send it to you! And feel free to close the window if it was really that bad. But you must have really loved it based on the fact you have commented four times.
Today, I am sending it on Facebook to my second child, a coloratura soprano with a MM in vocal performance from Kansas State University to add to her CELEBRATION of her 28th Birthday today. She has grown up around all kinds of pipe organs and has also given recitals with them accompanying her AND has sung with them in dozens, if not hundreds, of churches so far in her life.
