In their prime, there was no competition, period. They were the standard. If you saw them LIVE in the 70s, you know exactly what I'm talking about. They were head and shoulders above every other artist. 😏🫶🏾♥️🎤🎵🎼🏆🥇

I saw the EW&F in 1975 in Buffalo. ZZ Top opened for them. It's about the best show I've seen and I've seen many. I'll never forget the energy level of this song. Unreal.

If you saw them after April 1975, then you witnessed the 'Gratitude' Tour, of which the double album was made. I saw this tour as well in Dallas in July 1975. Best concert I've gone to, before or after, and I have gone to at least 80 over the years. Saw EVERYBODY back in the day: MJ, Jacksons, Tower of Power, Rufus, Commodores, War . . . .Isleys . . .way to many to recount here. Chicago, Deep Purple, Doobie Brothers, Sly, Graham Central Station, parliament, Bootsy, Brothers Johnsons, Ojays, Emotions , . . .. . . .

This was prior to their hit Boogie Wonderland. Four and a half years prior, in fact, but it comes from their strongest album That’s The Way Of The World which was hot on the charts that spring. Some of you probably know the song Reasons. This is the album it came from. The springtime of my high school prom. I basically injected this album into the veins of my soul then.

@@harmonygritz2839-Actually he’s was playing a Tenor Saxophone 🎷 before putting down Soprano. If it was a Baritone, it would be way bigger. In fact if you ever get the chance, check out their 1978 concert 🎶 & if you look 👀 at the Phenix Horns you’ll see the late Don Myrick playing a Baritone Sax 🎷 on the song “Jupiter” 👍🏽👍🏽👍🏽 !!!

In the beginning Maurice hired female singers for the lead while he sang background vocals and concentrated on drums, when Philip came on board Maurice was forced to come out front and sing the man parts however he can go in that range like Philip. The vocals in the group would be Maurice, Philip, Verdine & Ralph, hope this helps 👍

I don’t think I’ve ever heard this song before. I think they’re called a soprano sax and an alto sax maybe? It looks like that’s what the horn player is playing and I believe their ranges are different. Maybe Kenny G. plays a soprano sax? But it’s interesting because the lead singer - Maurice is his name? - is singing really high in his range and usually Phillip Bailey does that. But I’ve seem EWF a couple times in concert, once on a Seattle Pier outdoors and that was a fun concert as it was an unusually beautiful day in Seattle.
