I've always wanted to go there - just love the desert :) Thanks for your message re: holiday time/grief/lonliness/etc. The holidays are tough for me for several reasons. Merry Christmas to both of you and your followers as well. We share your love of Gilbert Ray, having first stayed there around Christmas of 2015 (perhaps when you were there). We’ve made it a point to stay there at least once a year ever since. We even joined the Arizona Sonoran Desert Museum (next door to Gilbert Ray). We were in the H loop for a week earlier in December this year. It never gets old. We are in our mid 70’s, and still traveling about in our rig and living life. Your thoughts about loss and grief are spot on. Safe travels.

Grief and Christmas, two words that never coincided for me until the past two years. You're so right Kristy, about our later years and loss. The abrupt change to all of the years of family tradition and celebration can be heartbreaking. I lived for five years in Tucson in happier times, I hiked several times a week -- I loved hiking Sabino Canyon. Thank you for your inspiring words.
This segment was so special since my youngest daughter and I visited Saguaro National park in 2016. She happened to be home for Christmas when I was watching this. We lost my husband and her Dad in 2017 so we are intimately familiar with grief. But, your comment about grieving the “losses of ourselves” made so much sense to both of us! The aging process is so very hard to explain to people (especially young people), and I think that comment helped us both realize that you do grieve for the person you once were and it’s a natural part of the aging process! “Life is a gift, so allow that moment of grief and then step to another place and create joy!” Better advice has never been given! You ladies are awesome!

Just recently found you two and so enjoyed the episodes on the Via Francigena! Planning first Camino in Spain and since all things ‘Italian’ are my ❤️ that one has to be next on the list. But now here I find your episode on Saguaro National Park ~ you were right here in my town, Tucson. Hiking up to Wasson Peak in under 4 hours plus in the rain and freezing temps is something 👏🏻! We are having a very cold winter this year - 28 degrees last night! Glad I found you and wish you happy trails in the new year!

Thanks for talking about your sister’s death, as my sister died last year in January, she had a difficult life. Your words rang true, and were really helpful. A very moving time of year, as she visited me and my wife here in Palm Springs for six weeks (from Ireland), for Christmas, a few years ago. So every Christmas shes on my mind all the time. Thanks again. Im sorry for your loss too.

Beautiful trails! Thanks for giving us a view. I could feel the love you have for your sister. Almost 23 years ago, I lost all three of my siblings. It has indeed been a process and still slaps me out of the blue sometimes. But I always make myself think of something to smile about. I like to think that I still take them with me. And I love to talk about them; it brings them back to me. Funny stories from our past really help.

Lovely place! My husband and I camped there a few years ago in April. It got very hot that time of year, but we did Brown Mtn hike anyway. We had to leave early because our little rental camper just didn't offer enough shade from the hot sun. But that desert is so beautiful! Thanks for your words of wisdom on grief.

Hi ladies, what a a nice time in Seguaro Nat'l Park. Loved the hike with all the cacti. Your thoughtful words about grieving and the holidays are so true. My Dad passed away seven days before Christmas when I was a child and my brother passed on Christmas day 2005, so I was making arrangements on Christmas day. As you wisely said, take a little time to grieve and then get on with life. That's what they would want us to do and it's what we should do. Your videos always brighten my day. Merry Christmas Wander Women! 🤶 that hike looked amazing, despite the cold and wet. I wish I could get out for a hike and camp. But my wee dog has decided to develop luxating patella, so needs surgery. It'll be a while before we're out backpacking again. In the meantime, I will just live vicariously 😊
One of the best ways to hike Wasson Peak is via the full Hugh Norris Trail. It is one of the best maintained trails I’ve ever hiked. It takes you up the back side of the Peak.
