Talking Story (don’t tell anyone else) is probably my favourite weekly update. Great as always gentlemen.

Your Sunday weekly ready has turned into my Monday Refresher, because mid-day on Mondays I'm usually dragging at work and this has been a great pick-me-up to get me through the rest of the day. You and your son have me in hysterics. And your glowing reviews, even with the comparisons to laundry, make me want to read all your recommendations.

Speaking of replays, I had a bit of a medical emergency this week and the stream you joined for Brian's anniversary was the only thing that carried me through the anxiety. I have heard so much praise for the novels of Janny Wurts I now have a mild, frustrating case of FOMO. But I have very little time, no shelf space and no money in order to add her to my impossible TBR.

Love McCammon's horror (read pretty much everything)... haven't given the Corbett series a try yet. And he signs at The Alabama Booksmith. I've gotten a book signed before. Also, Janny Wurts wrote Sorcerer's Legacy in 1982 and Master of Whitestorm in 1992. As far as I know those are her only other stand-alones. She is more than welcome to correct me :D And thank you for explaining "walking with a limp" :D Lastly, did anyone else have "Imagine all the people..." playing through their head? Just checking. Remember... "with no power comes no responsibility" :D

I really enjoyed Swan Song and Boy’s Life. Have been meaning to pick up Speaks the Nightbird so I think you’ve given me the impetus. Fallout is a hoot - love it! Also, agree with another comment to watch Star Trek Strange New Worlds which is my fav of the new Trek shows.

I'm going to be caught up with Matthew Corbett before the release of Leviathan. I only have King of Shadows and Seven Shades of Evil left to read. Although my next McCammon read is going to be Mystery Walk, which I'm about to start in a few days. Also, I finished The Vanished Birds by Simon Jimenez the other day, and it absolutely blew me away. I think it's going to be a pretty big hit with that whole buddy read with Mike, Philip, and Brian. I'm really excited for y'all to read it.

Wow, ended the video with cliffhanger? Really? 😱 Well now I HAVE TO watch the next weeks videos (as if I wouldn't already) 😊 This week been pretty good for me. Just finished Neon Ghosts and I really enjoyed that. (Even though there is one character I want to throw a lot of pointy sharp objects at. But hey, if I got that emotionally engaged, the author is clearly doing something right. Also that ending made me think. At first I wasn't sure if I liked it or not but the more i thought about the more I do like it. BUT I DO HAVE QUESTIONS for the sequel. Anyways great video and have nice day.

STOP IT! YOU CANNOT MAKE ME WANT TO READ MORE BOOKS! MY TBR GROWS FATTER!… I’ve already added City of Thieves and To Ride Hell’s Chasm to my tbr. Anyways, this week I read Of Darkness and Light which, goddamnit, was such a phenomenal step up from book one. I just finished writing most of my review on that but it adds new POVs and it just gets EVEN BETTER. I really liked book 1, but Of Darkness and Light was just a massive step up for me especially with all these characters that have been set up and now Cahill starts to really dig his heels in for the themes around guilt that he seems to be shooting for. I was sure that I was going to catch up to it eventually but now I think I’m going to try and tackle Of War and Ruin next month. I just started The Golden Fool by Robin Hobb and I am blasting through it. I don’t know why but I am absolutely in the sort of mood to just hang around with some of my favorite characters especially with all the schoolwork I am cramming in now. My next book is going to be Curse of The Mistwraith. I am very excited because of all the praise you have given Janny Wurts. Also, yes, if you like Princess Bride and also Wit from Stormlight then you will very likely LOVE Tress. I really enjoyed it and be careful not to flip near the end of the book- there are some very spoilery illustrations… believe me, I make that mistake a lot. Also also, I have been extremely excited to watch the Janny Wurts interview for a while. Now that I have said my piece, have a great week! I shall return.

As someone who read City of Thieves, I can confirm that it was a fantastic book. I look forward to your review on Tuesday, and meeting Mrs. Minton. I've been struggling with reading recently, but I started The Legend of Black Jack from AR (Andy) Witham, and I'm digging it so far. It's like a modern Oliver Twist/Tom Sawyer story, except in a fantasy world and the kid's a super genius. The pacing is refreshingly very fast, and Andy doesn't drag anything out. Though it is expository at the beginning, which irks me. Anyway, it's a solid book so far, I hope it gets better. Keep up the great work gents!

Todd here. Nice Weekly Reader John! I also picked up Of Blood and Fire by Cahill last year. I read the first couple chapters and enjoyed it I put it on hold because I don't have the other books and to pick up other projects. I also want to write my own screenplays and don't want my screenplays to be too much like other people's books. I still think there is a lot of untapped potenial in the Science Fiction genre of books and movies, I want to write my own science fiction screenplay. Currently reading The Blackest Heart by Durfee. I can't wait to dive into Bakker and give him another shot.

Your son should try reading some Stephen King books try Just After Sunset to start with the stories are nice and short and might get him into reading more books.

Great news regarding Robert McCammon finishing his series. I recently finished reading every other book he wrote, so I'm ready to start Matthew Corbett next year. Hopefully some of the Corbett books will be up there with my favourites of his. Boy's Life, Swan Song and The Wolf's Hour are my top 3, so far.

Death Stalker 2: Rebellion has a chapter 2 that could have been written by the OG Star Trek writers as the banter was classic Kirk/ Spock/ Bones. I will keep that series on your radar… once you finish Suneater you will need it as a tonic. I told Josh that Owen Deathstalker is like Indiana Jones in that Cairo marketplace and Hadrian Marlow is the assassin with the fancy swordplay and then he just pulls out the revolver…

Sorcerer's Legacy is Janny Wurt’s first book and a stand alone. Josh at Red Fury recently read & reviewed it. It is the reason Feist tapped her for Empire and she has a good story behind the development in her first interview with Tori Talks.

This week I read: *Fantasy* Stormlight Archive 1: WoK Part 1 + Interludes (re-read) - I'm enjoying the re-read, but man I know humour is subjective but Sanderson's humour is worse than I remembered. Like nails on a chalk board. I'm feeling a little bit of Fantasy fatigue (with the exception of Abercrombie) so I'm setting this aside for now. I'm currently reading: *Grimdark Fantasy* First Law 1: The Blade Itself (re-read) *Mystery* Shutter Island / Dennis Lehane *Sci-Fi* I Who Have Never Known Men / Jacqueline Harpman I watched the latest episodes of Doctor Who, and so far I'm not impressed. Thought Space Babies was pretty cringey, and Devil's Chord I didn't care for the climax or the ending at all. Tbf you can lose me very easily with musicals.

How many books do you usually finish in a week?

Question for you - Ryan Cahill, how much of the series is grimdark or grimdark-light? I can’t get a good handle on the series. I love Jordan and Hobb and Feist and Tad Williams but I abhor grimdark so I’m not sure if this is a series for me (I prefer classic fantasy over modern fantasy)

Star Trek: Strange New Worlds is better...in my opinion. Also started watching Dark Matter on Apple tv.... I need to read Janny Wurts!!! I've heard so many great things.
