Forest Bridges is celebrating National Forest Week by posting educational videos for the public that speak to some of our collaboratively developed Principles of Agreement for Active Conservation Management on the 2.9 million acres of O&C public lands in western Oregon.
The following video (courtesy of Jason Grant) is a wonderful primer on ecological forest management, delivered by Jerry Franklin, a world-renowned forest ecologist who has been called “the father of new forestry.”
Ecological forest management tenets and treatment approaches underpin many of Forest Bridges Principles of Agreement and Active Conservation strategies for the O&C dry, moist and transitional forests in western Oregon.
A native Oregonian, retired University of Washington professor, researcher and prolific author, Jerry is a leading authority on sustainable forest management and the maintenance of healthy forest ecosystems.
Jerry was responsible for integrating ecological and economic values into
harvest strategies.
Forest Bridges is also fortunate to count Jerry among our Independent Scientific and Ecocultural Reviewers, who provide highly valuable technical inputs into our ever-evolving Principles of Agreement and Active Conservation Management strategies for the O&C Lands of western Oregon.
In the following video, Jerry outlines the goals and key features of
ecological forest management, which focuses on managing ecosystems
for multiple benefits.
