Andrew made a video to explain why he renounced US citizenship, and one RU-vid commenter doesn't like it: • Why and How I Renounce...
Andrew reads the comment from a US citizen angry that expatriation is allowed, and answers each ill-thought out point.

This Guy RW is hilarious!! I am a Dual citizen of the US and Lebanon I have been living in Australia and New Zealand the last few years my girlfriend is from the Netherlands. I intend on renouncing my citizenship to the USA once I obtain a citizenship to another tier-A country. Why should I pay or have to report my income to the US when I don't even live there. Even with my 2nd citizen ship in Lebanon I have to report my information to the US. If I marry my current girlfriend which we intend on doing why would she need to report her personal information to the IRS she has never set foot in the United States. Andrew Henderson I love your videos. I am a well traveled man and so much of what you say really resonates with me. Keep the videos coming brother there are plenty of us out here who totally get what you're saying or other who want to find a way to implement the Nomad Capitalist methods.

@@hennagaijin7856 Depends on his situation. I'm an Australian citizen, I don't live in Australia and i have no property or business's in Australia. I went through the process of confirming with the ATO that i have a permeant domicile outside of Aus and thus i don't even need to lodge a tax return. The process took 15 minutes on the phone and a day or 2 emailing some documents back and forth. Been 7 years, the only interaction i've had with the Australian government since was renewing my passport, which took about 30 minutes online and i was able to pick it up from the embassy within a month. Now obviously this isn't going to be as simple or straight forward for everyone and Aus can be an absolute pain in the ass depending on certain circumstances, but in my personal situation remaining an Australian citizen is easy as piss, it's far cheaper then taking out other citizenships serves as a great fall back should anything happen and i pay fuck all tax in the country i live in with a permanent visa that is offered to Australian citizens.

I just sold an income property. Put some of the proceeds into a 1031 exchange, took a little over $100k boot, to live on. California took $13,850. Out before I got a penny. I will still owe the feds. What do I get? Schools are closed, police only take telephonic reports, for the most part. Even in my beautiful Coastal town in North San Diego, the homeless are growing in numbers by the day. Actually patriotism has nothing to do with the federal government. Any such form of blind allegiance is called statism. I.e. allegiance to a state. The only issue is since humans have very low IQs, we are often unable to differentiate between nation-states, nations and just states. So, I know many patriots, militart people who hate the tax of 39.6%

Nation-states. These are our new gods. These are what define us. I think it's all a matter of how people consider nation-states and how they elevated this concept way above religion. Everywhere in the world, and also in western countries, the state is sacred. The state is somehow the new god. You can pretty much disrespect religions, burn bibles or kurans, but in our current paradigm, you can't disrespect the state symbols or you may get into trouble with the judiciary. The nation-state has taken the place of religion and disrespecting them is blasphemy. Hence, as in the old ages, the nomads are the new disbelievers we should burn at the stake in this new paradigm: no, the state is not that important. Yes, one can change, swap, or even be part of multiple nations, and maybe even not a single one. Andrew, you are facing hard reactions because you are simply attacking what define people, you are attacking their religion, you are attacking their god, the nation, and as people came to see their countries as extensions of themselves, you are attacking THEM. I really enjoyed this explainer video of the New York Times on how people cherish and almost worship their state, and yes, this idea is extremely powerful and you are fighting forces that are way stronger than anyone can imagine: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-F9qF6FvwrHI.html

I love your attitude, that’s why I subscribed !! I was born in the USA through no choice of my own. I am 75 now, so it would be somewhat more difficult for me to move internationally at this point, but I totally respect that each country can have advantages and disadvantages and you should pick a country that treats you best. I have lived in many states in the USA, and generally move around to escape high taxes ,high regulations , and bad service. I shop at different stores to get the lowest prices and best service. I had reasonable medical care until Obamacare was forced on my family. We got a brief respite from some things while trump was president, but even he put in tariffs on Chinese goods which WE have to pay. In years past I had a company in Mexico because they wanted us more than California did at the time. I used to like going to Mexico and enjoyed the more relaxed culture there, in spite of some aspects of utility inconsistencies and internal corruption and an internal tax system that punished Mexican citizens who wanted to rise above poverty. Eventually their system was more onerous than the one in Nevada, so we moved. Now nevada has been infected with Californian socialism and corona virus lockdowns. Socialist Biden/Harris/sanders is in power now, and I suspect it’s time to really look around the world this time for the best deal. I no longer feel dedicated to an American where I can’t think what I want, certainly can’t speak out without being called a racist, a traitor, and an evil creature. America has changed, I haven’t. Every day there is more control over my activities, and the US dollar loses value every single day. So, I applaud that you look around the world fir the best countries to deal with. Competition is the individual’s savior and we should be happy we have a choice of where we live

I have some friends who think this. They’re really nationalist (not US) but otherwise they’re fun people to be around. One thing they always tell me is, if I’m here, then I MUST commit to this society. I ask them: Why? First of all I just GOT here a few years ago and for NOW, I like living here. I move countries a lot. Should I have made 100% commitment to every country Iv’e ever been in? Honestly it just sounds like you want to milk me for money as soon as I land (this country has a bankrupt social system, like most in the West. Oh and the speaker was unemployed when he said that to me and collecting benefits). I’ve been called “the ideal immigrant” before. I’m great at languages and have a graduate degree in STEM. Even the fact that my friends immediately they deserve something from me, beyond what I’m giving to the country, when in the grand scheme of things I’ve barely LANDED, makes me kind of cynical. Your country hasn’t committed to ME so what incentive do I have to commit. Want proof? I don’t have citizenship! Not that I’m necessarily complaining. I haven’t done my BEST to obtain citizenship because honestly I’m not sure I WANT it. But that very fact is proof that your country is as unsure about ME as I am unsure about IT and in the mean time, while we’re deciding, let’s entering into a symbiotic relationship! You let me stay here, I pay taxes. Why does that make me a parasite? I mean if it makes things easier, just think of me as a mercenary. here today, for money and mutual benefit. Gone tomorrow. Sometimes I have real contempt for that viewpoint. Every time I hear my friends espouse these viewpoints I wonder if we should really be friends, given that they apparently think I’m a parasite. Everywhere I go people just seem so... CLOSED and localist (if that’s even a word). And as someone who grew up multicultural (I’m a third culture kid), it feels lonely. My consolation is that I can always leave if I don’t want to put up with them. I pull the disappearing act from entire communities often enough, it’s honestly become sort of easy.

We live in a weird world where those who produce and innovate, those who create wealth are taxed and punished. Those who don't work and are lazy are rewarded with social income. What a shitshow. Sometimes I wonder why wealthy people help the poor, when the very moment they turn their back, are insulted with phrases such as: that idiot just gave me money. I've seen that in person. There's no such thing as poor people, but poor mentality. Give 1M to an economically disadvantaged person, in less than a month he'll waste them all. In UK you can declare yourself an expatriate to the tax office if you are living and working abroad, you must not return to UK for the first 12 months and for 10 months of every consecutive year, the logic is that you are not living and earning in UK so not using it's services, if you return you start paying tax again, no need to renounce citizenship.

Thank you, Sir! I have been a life long resident of USA. While I love my country, the truth is, it no longer aligns with my personal convictions. I don't agree with many of the things purported as "American", nor do I wish to be subject to a legal system that violates the very foundational principals set up by our founders! The IRS targeted me many years ago, and put me out of business! I, like you, had paid consistently for many years, and afforded many people employment in my business operation, but when Obama came into power, the IRS targeted conservative individuals who they could cripple, etc... With that said, I am trying to establish an online presence and income to be able to live offshore. I have ordered your book, "The Nomad Capitalist" and am doing the research to start the process, while I am trying to generate income, otherwise. I am viewing the Panama Friendly Nations Visa program as a means to gain citizenship at a later date. We intend to renounce our US citizenship. Unfortunately, we haven't been able to recover fiscally and live on a very modest income. I actually stayed in Panama City proper for 7 weeks several years ago, researching real estate investments. Is Panama where we should focus? By the way, don't get bothered by the naysayers, there are always people whose vision and convictions do not align with your own. They have their place in the world, thankfully, we are given the luxury of crafting our own thoughts and lifestyle thru our choices. I certainly wish you all the best! Thank you for this content.

EX-pat with eight years and counting in the Republic of the Philippine Islands checking in. Citizen services from the embassy in Manila do exist but are more limited than RW may think. I had an American acquaintance that I visited three times per week in the local provincial lock-up for seven months. I brought in fresh salads, home cooked meals and tradable items like packaged cookies and coffee sachets for the young fellows that watched out for him. US embassy personnel visited him once soon after he was inside and I believe two more times at about three month intervals. They brought him a hotel toothbrush and tube of paste one time. Another time he was given a hotel size bar of soap. He was told to " take care and call us if you need anything." If the man were not a Vietnam veteran, I wonder if he would have received such great treatment? I wonder if RW remembers our Marine Joseph Scott Pemberton? He walked out or camp Crame after President Duterte pardoned him. No black helicopters ever arrived in the dark of night to carry him away. It is a good idea to not rob local banks, commit no murders and avoid other illegal activities. You will do well and enjoy life.

Those videos do tend to collect better engagements, which overall helps your channel. That being said, good job! Love your channel. Love what you do. On other hand, I don't ever think there is a need to explain yourself or your financial decisions to people (especially, if it's obvious that they aren't as successful as you are). WHY? Humans created artificial concept of "birthplace" and country loyalty for no other reason than to tax the hell out of region's citizens, convince them to go to wars to defend political ideology. Citizens of nearly every country has been brainwashed into "patriotism" so they can be used by elite top for their fiscal, political and power benefits. We have false sense of "country identity" which gives us unnecessary "pride" and sense of entitlement to tell others they are wrong. I am Ukrainian by birth, American by residence, neither proud nor ashamed to be either. I would never ever said "I am proud to be _____" as if that'd identify myself as anything but a herd member of a brainwashed region-based society. If our cave ancestors were so "land bound" they would never migrate to a better places. Humanity would die in caves and lands without fruitful soil and prey-rich forests. Instead, our cavemen ancestors immigrated to lands that provided the best environment to survive. Have they stayed at "birthplace" out of pride and bigoted sense of patriotism, humanity would not exist today. This has been masterly demonstrated in kids' cartoon, "Croods Family". The "original nomad" lol. I love the concept of going where you're treated best, not only from financial perspective, but also from social perspective. I want to be mostly around people that are welcoming and open with a positive mindset. It is often that sense of "but it's my land" which keeps high school graduates from going to the best university, college grads from acquiring the best career elsewhere, or bootstrapping entrepreneur from starting the least taxed business, or family from living in desirable climate (ex-Ohioan here), because of that godamn "pride". Thank you!

I agree with the polarization aspect....There's no more room for fence sitters. The radical left is coming and there are 2 choices, well maybe 3...complacency and let the chips fall..i.e. do nothing and get crushed, fightback and join the other side or plan to be a type of nomad captialist. Plan 3 is the best choice.

Hey Andrew. I've been watching your videos for quite a while and think your material is brilliant. Your time is not well spent responding to folks who will not listen and it's no point making fun of them either. What I would really love to see are more videos about those you have helped gain legal distance from the US and the customized plans they chose for themselves (at a high level, of course). Then what are they up to today... revisit.

I live between Hong Kong, UK, Vietnam, Tokyo, Australia and soon Montenegro. Australia is the only place I avoid but my daughters live there. I am based in Hong Kong for Tax purposes and it sure beats paying 20% VAT on purchases and all that salary and corporate tax in the first world regions. I don't see why I need to pay for UK contributions when I don't use any of their services personally and pay private for most things in other regions. I don't feel patriotism anymore since I have been living all over the world

Hi Andrew- I can’t tell you how much I appreciate your worldly knowledge. Thank you for sharing and for taking the high road when it comes to “emotional” attack’s from a critic who’s world view is smaller. I am an expat myself and love living outside the US. I do everything legal as you do- and I also see that paying for services I’m not using does not make sense. However I’ve decided to keep my status as-is for now. The foreign income exclusion form if followed correctly by only visiting 35 days- allows one to earn up to ($102K or thereabouts) with no penalty to pay taxes. You’ve shared this info on your channel. I think that is fair..... Let’s see what happens in the near future as more and more people become digital nomad/ location independent..... and if the allowed income increases.....😌 Happy travels to you ☺️✈️🌎🌏🌍

So sad that some miserable dude in the states wants someone not living in the states to be as miserable as him That’s why DONT depend on any government to solve your problems guys. If you have a “1st world” passport doesn’t mean you’re entitled to be a king in a “3rd world” If I was in Andrew’s shoes I wouldn’t want to pay taxes to a country I’m barely in. It’s like paying rent to landlord you’re not there for 12 months. With the money you saved on taxes You can use it elsewhere you’re treated best

I agree with you Andrew. I love what you are offering us as consumers. Opportunity has been expanded, some acceptable to people, some are not. I can ALLOW opportunities to expand my experience, or not. I can research the most sensitive issue in every Americans mind which is truthfully "capitational income taxes". The income tax has been MISAPPLIED towards the American people. I had to find out by correspondence with the taxing agencies, realizing nothing is as it appears to be. There are libraries all across the country offering free books to use and research. I do not want to take these freedoms for granted. Its unfortunate most Americans are afraid of this truth, and will continue to lash out at anything that forces them to self educate. I ask myself, do I want to be a slave, or do I want to be FREE? I want to be FREE...........................

US middle income (70k a year) vet here. I am loving this channel. I think the idea of being a nomad capitalist is amazing. Even inside the US this is a key thing people should be doing. IE leaving California for Texas. You should move wherever you are treated best both inside the US and outside! Secondly as far as the "patriot" thing I am a veteran. I see absolutely nothing wrong with this. If you really believe another country is better.....move there. I don't believe in trying to change a country to be like another. I think each country SHOULD be different to allow people the option to move to whichever country whos values (or money situation) best encompases their own. No one should be forced to be stuck in a country (especially where a majority of its citizens hate you). The world (and hopefully soon the Galaxy!) should be free for anyone to move around in.

A new issue that is coming up in the US is the ProAct and how it could affect freelancers working there very badly - essentially forcibly pushing them out of the market and no longer allowing them to freelance. This is a law that was passed in California, has been passed in other states (New Jersey) and is set to be passed on the federal level . It would be interesting if you could address that - I am sure many freelancers who make a good living in the US will seriously be thinking about moving. Thanks for all your information - you are very well informed. Congrats!

Thanks for exploring the downside aspect. While running a foreign subsiariary of a Swiss company in Japan, I hit my five year federal tax exemption limit and faced paying both US and Japanese. Then there was the $10,000 penalty if i didn't report all the foreign bank accounts I had authority for. There are ways to reset the clock, but I often thought why am I locked into the forever wherever reporting and tax obligation for services I wasn't receiving. So, I opted to move to Switzerland. However, when management expressed their expectation for me to pursue Swiss citzenship, I froze, quit and returned my family to the US. Now, after a life long career in international business, I'm about to retire and longing to permanently reside outside the us again, I feel trapped with various domestic real estate assets, ss, medicare, family, etc. I'm not a fan of the direction the US is taking, but yet fearful of letting go of the security of belonging to the most powerful country in the world. It feels like it is too late and I should have changed citzenship long ago before my finances got complicated and commited, and I was mentally more receptive to taking risks.

As an "American," still living here, I'm not happy with the country. In fact, I haven't been for over 3 decades. It doesn't feel like home anymore. I went to Canada, on vacation, when I was 12 and felt more at home there. I have made plans to go to Costa Rica sometime next year, hopefully, to see how it feels there. I'll plant my flag where I feel at home, and anyone who has a problem with it will just have to deal with it. I've lived my life for other people for to long. It's time for me to live for me.

In fact, I feel you always put the emphasis on following the law wherever you might be. In reality, many people are bothered by others’ freedom. For some reason people get really incensed when someone chooses to march to their own beat, irrespective of the fact that it doesn’t affect them in any way. Let me Chime in on the American Consulate / Embassy / State Department - they are patently worthless in 2020. They have been closed all year. Their only response is an auto response about being closed. And if you have to be evacuated back to the States - you will be charged for it (never mind that the US fails to enforce immigration rules against illegals - not stopping them from collecting welfair, IRS refunds or purchase residences) ie - it is better to be an illegal immigrant in America than a natural born American

We have been traveling all over the world for the past 9 years, and we do it for only 21 days at a time. We have noticed that the countries in Asia are way far better than Europe and US for sure. Quality of life, food, kind people and NOT ENTITLED species sounds like a perfect paradise. I must confess, I grew up in Brazil, finished high school in France and move to the US and did my grad studies. What a mistake I made moving to the US, but a least I now know how it is. It all FAKE! My husband had this fascination of going to spend time in Europe Spain, Italy and France so we did he was disappointed he did not understand the fuss about it. As you said in one of your videos Europe is a tree that has fallen down, TRUE! Your videos are FANTASTIC. No need to change anything. I cannot be thankful enough for your work. Andrew. I am struggling if I shall obtain Canadian PR and citizenship, I am troubling to understand their international taxation policy, although I knows it is differ from the U.S, U.S would charge tax based on mere citizenship, Canada does that based on residency, but it is quite ambiguous to understand their policy. Many of us in the State pursuit the passport of this Northern neighbor, based on it's ambiguity of tax: to grab a Canadian passport and leave the North America to work somewhere else, and spend a short period vocation in U.S as a Canadian(after renouncing U.S citizenship ) with visa free status. In such case, are we still obligated for Canadian taxation? The other case is, like one of my friend, who got Canadian passport through connection with his Canadian mom, planning to renounce his U.S citizenship and file E-2 status as a Canadian to live in U.S, does Canadian taxation apply to him? In short, perhaps you could make a video to explains the pros and cons about Canadian passport in terms of taxation.....

Andrew, MOST people - even the "enlightened" ones - have no idea about the rules of money, and - like you mentioned in this video - it's easier to hold others responsible for their ignorance to take opportunities that are presented to them. EVERYONE has opportunities. The other sad point is that the world is riddled with politicians who have no clue about life and will crucify anyone who doesn't follow their views - what a "democrat" system is supposed to be all about. Most people are ignorant about living a life of their own choice. Most people are OK with living a "secure" life someone believes means never leaving their families, friends, community or country. The "WE NEED YOU" was a marketing ploy for men to go to war in WW2. Since it worked so well, the FED uses it for getting people to pay taxes... What most people DON'T do is to do their own research or make their own decisions, because they're too tied up watching the next "Housewives... " program. I'm HUGELY grateful to have discovered your channel! FINALLY someone who is doing and thinking the same way I do! I'll definitely be in touch... AND looking forward to getting more insights... Gland that you're one of those people who actually calls out STUPIDITY... That's what I call remarks like "RW".

Btw I am a very loyal and proud American....Not because I live in this land but because of what the original American ideology means. Capitalism, freedom, rule of law etc. I support people like nomad. He makes America and the world better by simply moving capital to where it is treated best. That forces places like California to wake up or lose more capital. Places who treat nomad better earn his money and business. Through global competition the world and local governments learn to treat people and their capital or businesses well. People vote with their money. One caveat is that the US does foot a disproportionate amount of the bill for attempting to keep the world peaceful. Many countries arguably benefit from the US military presence. For instance without the US military would the CCP crush Taiwan like Hongkong? How safe would the rest of Asia be for business or life? There are many different dynamics to this.

Great point: there are places outside the USA where the rules are much easier to follow. Inside the USA, one never really knows. I'm told many Americans overpay their taxes out of fear of the IRS instead of taking advantage of all the legal ways to pay less tax. And who even knows what all the legal options are from year to year?
