@Kate Park but I think they promote less because of the competitive market. We all know that since 2011+ yrs, more and more kpop groups debut. The promotion was better before because the kpop market only revolved around the big 3, and only their artists succeeds. We may think its less promotion and exposure but in fact, even old SM artists say treatment is better for their new artists. Before, a lot of fans complains of overwork, now that they are less exposed, they're underworked. Exo definitely felt neglected especially after the 3 chinese members left but not for the rest. My problem with SM was always the musical freedom as well as low wage. But the fact that most of their 1st & 2nd gen idols are still on the company, has even shares and treats their dongsaengs well meant for me that the company might not suck as everyone thinks. The mistreatment always comes when the company becomes big, because the business aspects expands which makes things difficult for marketing, sales, financial, connections, etc.

@Kate Park i don't think so. SM is still popular, my sk friends says so. They said its still home to kpop idols . But having a lot of choices makes things difficult. Coke is still, as you say, popular with good marketing strategy, but the taste doesn't stay the same (atleast for a bunch of people I know) thus choosing and sampling other stuff. Even if marketing is good, if there are variety of choices, people will always have different preferences and will always be curious for new stuff. If they like the new stuff, they go for it, and if they don't, they go back to what they're used to. That's the consumers perspective. Same with music. I like all sm artists but even if I stan the group if I don't like the music, I don't buy the album. I honestly like SM now. They're not about sales or even exposure. They actually started treating their idols as humans. The 2nd gen idols were always running around from recording music shows, attending variety shows, photoshoots, going to other countries and back, then there's the continued training. It made them stressed physically and mentally. Right now, I don't know with aespa, its still being secretive but nct has their various yt channels with more content that people enjoy much more than scripted variety shows. They have down time to take care of their health and sanity. With RedVel, I think they're also careful because of the Irene issue that people still care about. LSM selling his shares is his idea of saying, I'm done now. Like dude, he had been with SM for quite a long time and he even managed personally, the business connections on the states. They are now focusing on setting the groundwork for expansion.

They r not even best selling sm group ‘all time’, exo still holds that title. Ur faves only has one album sell good for a subunit, not a whole group physical sales, exo as a group has more physical sales, if add all solo/ subunit they have much more sales.

But, kpop has Gone worldwide it is not difficult to achieve one million copies even a 4th generation group can sell this much now with fandom massive buys, look at digital charts and stream on Spotify u will know how many people are listening to them. They still don’t have wide audiences like rv or even exo. Aespa’s digital is also better than NcT.
